Get Ben King
Carlisle, Geary and pick 5 for Ben King.
First question - Would you be happy with this trade?
Second question - Would Gold Coast accept this?
Discuss.

Re: Get Ben King
Seems like overs - not even considering the bad press we would get from trading out our captain - on the back of an injured year - does not pass the sniff test sorry!
**Even Carlisle and 5 seems too much.

Re: Get Ben King
I'd be happy to get him but I think it is too much. The Suns would be mad to knock it back. A positive report on Dylan Roberton would make me feel better about it.
The lump in my throat comes when digesting a really inexperienced back line of
Wilkie Clavarino Paton
Coffield Battle Clark
It is exciting but very risky. I don't think there is 100 games there and we loose over 400.
Webster Roberton Savage and Brown become pivotal experienced players. Webster and Savage never quite having become reliable and Brown and Roberton closer to an end than a platform to build off. After those 10 it drops away dramatically.

I reckon they'd take Carlisle for King straight out.Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Sat 31 Aug 2019 10:54am Carlisle, Geary and pick 5 for Ben King.

I'd take it. Carlisle is a genuine gun, but I think given we're still basically in rebuild mode, getting twin brothers who in all probability could be stars of the comp at each end of the ground within 2 years and for the next 10 - I'd do the swap.
Geary is absolutely required.

Re: Get Ben King
It is only a matter of time before Gold Coast come good. Once they start winning games which could still be 2 years away, all of a sudden they will have a whole list of top 10 players. Their next coach will have an embarrassment of riches to work with. Once that happens everyone will want to go there and everyone will want to stay there.Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Sat 31 Aug 2019 11:37am I’d do it. However the players won’t accept to rot on the Gold Coast.
I think if we can prize King out of them we should do it this year. Geary only has 2 years left maximum and Carlisle has his injury concerns and is also approaching 30. If we can convert 2 ageing players plus pick 5 into Ben King I would be rapt.
Logan Austin will be able to assume the Carlisle role. He is a much better player than most people realise. He is now over his injuries and looking forward to a full pre-season. And don't forget, since Carlisle was traded to St Kilda he has missed just about as many games as he has played for us.
Regarding Geary, I admire the bloke for what he has achieved. Full of heart and work ethic but he has been overtaken by many of our younger players and if he was to depart we would not miss him.

He was Cho's guy. Cho is not good at identifying good players.

Re: Get Ben King
We need at least 2 first rounders to play with, if we want to get Hill & King. We've got one, how do we get the other?
Gold Coast will want our 5 and something else for King. Fair enough too. Freo will want a first rounder for Hill.
Here's a possibility, Pick 5 for Hill, just get it done. Bruce, next years first and perhaps another pick, for King.

1. players looking to "transition into retirement", on good coin, or

want to play for Gold Coast
Sadly this partly applies to St Kilda as well.

Re: Get Ben King
Maybe Gold Coast would take Paddy McCartin for Ben King - they would be gaining a number one draft pick no less.

St Kilda and Gold Coast to be deregistered

Re: Get Ben King
Other players who go ooc walk to their preferred destinations so why don't we just wait? We are talking about twins here and it's not about the money or the chance to play finals. These guys want to play AFL in the same team.
He will walk to us in 12 months time. Ben can tell all the other clubs that he's not interested.
Isn't that what Luke Ball did to us? Buckley did it when he dumped Brisbane. Buckley chose Collingwood and a deal was done. Yeo also did it when he chose West Coast.

Re: Get Ben King
Our players which includes the two mentioned in this thread have been drastically overpaid so the club can meet minimum cap requirements. They have no need to transition into retirement or search for a pay day because they are already getting it.ace wrote: ↑Sat 31 Aug 2019 2:56pmOnlyMyron Gaines wrote: ↑Sat 31 Aug 2019 11:37am I’d do it. Not according to the starry eyed young blokes from Sandrigham we're not. The twins that grew up barracking for the Sainters might just want to help elevate our beloved club
