This is our moment St Kilda, if we want to set a new course for this club, MITCHELL IS THE GUY.

GET IT DONE SAINTS, GET IT DONE!!!
That's the 3rd or 4th coach Clarko has endorsed as ready to go including Ratten.
How many of them are 4 time premiership players Santa?

Both Lyons are fumblers, given golden opportunities they blow them. Sam M on the radar means Brett will need to demonstrate ruthlessness as well as nous. If Sam gets it he will have to show he has also has more wisdom than Brett. I think Brett will win - ruthless through life experience and wise though life experience, and can assess the list after a year with them; he is by nature a very clever, humble, compassionate man - he would not connive to get out of an agreement like Rossy boy. If we do better than Brett we are blessed rather than the cursed as we have been for a while. If they choose someone else they need to present themselves publicly 1 Oct. 2020 at the Coliseum Moorabbin and hope for the thumbs up.

Well may you ask.

The main factors in favour of Sam Mitchell coning into contention to be the next St Kilda coach are:

1. We are arguably in an era of new generation coaches, 2 of the last 3 premiers were coached by relatively inexperienced coaches, Luke Beveridge and Adam Simpson. Both Carlton and North Melbourne have promoted previous assistant coaches to senior coach for 2020, a trend that signifies a changing of the guard.

2. Sam Mitchell's pedigree is elite, he played 302 games for Hawthorn which included 4 premierships, captained the team for many years. Following retirement at end of 2017 was assistant coach at WCE when they won a premiership (2018), then spent 2019 as assistant coach back at Hawtorn under Alastair Clarkson, by far the most successful coach of the modern era.

3. At age 36 he has the experience and maturity to be a senior AFL coach - if he applies the same hard-edged determination to win and make the team successful that he displayed as a player, he will most assuredly become a successful coach - it is his destiny.

4. St Kilda needs to break the shackles of poor coaching for the past 9 seasons and that suggests to me that they need to take a completely different approach - as much as I admire Brett Ratten and Brad Scott as potential coaches, they represent the past, whereas Sam Mitchell provides a break with tradition, a promise of a far more exciting future for the club and its supporters!

That's the same Clarkson that features in 2013, 2014 & 2015 isn't it? The same untried Clarkson appointed to coach Hawthorn in 2004?

My point being Malthouse was the last tried coach appointed to win a flag.

Wait wait wait wait.

I don’t get it.

You said ALL flags since 2010 have been won by untried coaches.

So Clarkson was an ‘untried’ coach in 2013? Or are you using a contiguous appointment to make your argument?

There's a difference between a tried coach who already won a flag when he was an untried coach and a tried coach who did f-all.

1. see above

2. He was a elite player not a elite coach we are looking for a coach!! , playing ability does not equal coaching ability other wise Harvey would have coached 5 premierships by now, and plenty of example of great players being poor coaches

3. So do all the other candidates, and in my opinion Sam will make a good coach one day but not now

4. and there deliberately trying not to do that?

WOW, don't let semantics justify you or define you.

Perhaps I should have phrased it along the lines that only one previously tried coach has won a flag since 2003. 14 out of 15 flags were won by untried coaches.

On your logic, the only untried coach to win a flag in that period was Chris Scott, afterall, the rest had senior coaching experience the year(s) before they won their flags.

OR by your definition, is a tried coach only someone who has won a flag. I'll let your semantics decide that.

Ratten played 250 games, captained a flag - was an assistant under Clarkson for multiple premierships.

In my mind, he represents the future. Grabbing a guy that clearly knows his stuff, that is still young, highly respected by his coaching peers, and has the unique advantage of having already experienced coaching an AFL club (in Ratten's case it included winning finals) - is without doubt the most logical appointment.

That's the future.

A Board with no clue about footy appointing a random young bloke who has never coached before because they've heard he might be a good coach is borderline idiotic.
