If that's an issue, we wouldn't be able to field a team.saintkev wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 11:13pmBetween the ears? Re: Carlisle
Less than average actually. Won’t chase, tackle, impose himself in a contest, sulks and corrales sedentary players. He sets a bad example yet consistently rewarded for lack of effort.B.M wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:48pm He’s been full training for 12 weeks, and playing for 8
He’s not 100% but not as if it’s his first game back
All we are doing is making excuses for him, because we want him to be a good player
He’s massively overrated, always has been
He was good when he played as a plus one, but as an actual defender, he’s average

Re: Carlisle
Scores were level and it was tight early in the 3rd. We had several inside 50's and we poked our noses in front after Stuvvy kicked the goal 10 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Then the Swans got the clearance out of the centre and the ball got bombed onto Carlisle's head at CHB and he just watched Jack Sinclair attempt to mark instead of going for it and taking the bloody mark himself.saintkev wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 11:32pmLess than average actually. Carlisle wasn't impeded and he knew that a Swans player would easily spoil or outmark Sinclair if they got close. He simply didn't want to do his job and he simply didn't want the footy. Josh Kennedy got the goal and the Swans went on with it after that.
Any player who displays more than 3 poor efforts in a contest situation during a match should be dropped. I'm sick of seeing Carlisle fail to to do his job. If he is just a spectator in a marking contest he deserves to be dropped.

It's a mistake that we should make the most of. Pick 5 and Carlisle to Gold Coast for Bing. This is what I would do.

Get Alex Keith from Adelaide. Out of contact and destroyed us mid year. Would be half Carlisle cost....

It's not about whether he has the talent. He sets a poor example.
Any coach worth his salt needs to set standards and must make the senior players accountable

On reflection, Carlisle often sets a clearly poor example, which would not be acceptable at other clubs such as the Swans, Hawthorn in particular.

Re: Carlisle
Carlisle's strength is that he's cool in the contest, unfussed, relaxed and confident. That means he's good under pressure and creative. The downside is, when he loses a little focus, you get what you got yesterday.
He's elite, glorious hands and elite by foot. He's at his best across half back, intercepting and setting up counter attacks. At his best, he's one of the best Centre Half Backs in the game.
He had bugger all of a pre-season, got back unexpectedly early and never really got to his best touch. I think people may be over doing the concern about Carlisle.

Re: Carlisle
He is nowhere near one of the best CHBs in the game. Battle was far better at CHB this season.
McGovern, Andrews, Moore, Hurley, Tarrant, Rance all way better. He is lazy, and likes to play loose across hb, a position that is now redundant.

Re: Carlisle
He’s had too many consecutive bad games, his disposal efficiency is inflated by the fact that he will always kick to the same spot when kicking outside the 50, ie close to the boundary. Just not up to it anymore and should be traded when he still has some currrency.Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Sun 25 Aug 2019 4:36pm Carlisle's strength is that he's cool in the contest, unfussed, relaxed and confident. Yes, but some of the things people have mentioned have been there for the years that he has had a pre-season. Was going alright generally, until the club didn't stand by him after that Carlton game. Actually, the whole team hasn't done well since thenBarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 9:27pm How many players have good years when they don't have a pre-season?
Very, very few.
How many come back for the last month or two after no pre-season and coming off back surgery - and are at their best?
Even less.

I'm warming to the idea of swapping Jake for Ben King.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Trouble is that I would be most surprised in Jake wanted to go to the GC. They would have to offer him massive overs in $$$$$

I agree with you regarding that Carlton game in 2017. It left a sour taste in many of our player's minds.barneyboyz wrote: ↑Mon 26 Aug 2019 9:37amYes, but some of the things people have mentioned have been there for the years that he has had a pre-season. I'm not letting Jake totally off the hook, but I think if players are allowed to get away with poor efforts and poor work rate on more than one occasion then you have to question the leadership
More posts and threads should be pointing the finger at our administration and the people in charge rather than blaming a few individuals like Carlisle for our performances.

Re: Carlisle
A few weeks ago, Ross Lyon lamented the fact that his team couldn't get past Carlisle in the last quarter as Freo relentlessly attacked. Freo subsequently lost the game. That's fair praise for a key backman from a highly rated football coach.
Go you good things....!!!

Re: Carlisle
If Moore were to leave the Pies as is rumored then Collingwood's first pick would be a fair swap for Carlisle. Send that pick for Martin.
Let's be honest, Wilkie has come in as a rookie and has played with more heart than Carlisle has ever displayed (with us or Essendon). I also think Logan Austin showed enough last year to suggest that he could play an intercepting role in defense.

Re: Carlisle
Carlisle played a small part in the game. He wasn't dominant in the match and he wasn't dominant in the last quarter. It's easy to highlight a few moments in the last quarter to shift blame and deflect the blowtorch.Simon Templar wrote: ↑Tue 27 Aug 2019 12:07pmA few weeks ago, Ross Lyon lamented the fact that his team couldn't get past Carlisle in the last quarter as Freo relentlessly attacked. That highly rated football coach always finds excuses for his teams losses. It's usually his players letting him down or it's opposition players thwarting his brilliant coaching
