Update on Paddy McCartin

Post: # 1818816Post saintfreddy »

I tried to do a search (not one of my strong abilities) but was wondering what the outcome of Paddy McCartin's trip to the USA resulted in. I simply haven't seen how successful or otherwise it proved to be.

I am sure someone on this board is all over it and able to report the latest

Only the smart ones mate. The ones keen on keeping up with the latest footy gossip.

From the herald sun.com

"Lucy Brownless says a life-changing trip the US has inspired her to pursue new career goals.

The model daughter of former footy star Billy Brownless spent six weeks living in New York completing a yoga teaching course, and then was fast-tracked for a Sports Illustrated swimsuit casting in Miami.

She was supported throughout by boyfriend, St Kilda footballer Paddy McCartin, who headed to Chicago to see concussion specialists in a bid to resurrect his career.

“Paddy’s doing well, we were able to get some clarity and invaluable help in the US last month which was great,’’ she said.d

“I am so proud of him and how positive he’s remained through all of this.”

I subscribe and have a funny story, well I find it funny anyhow.

I was reading the Ross Lyon sacking story and as I regularly do decided to read through the comments section under the article.

Low and behold a subscriber posted comments about Ross with rhyming words such as toss and floss.
I thought to myself...hmmmm, where have I heard that before

McCartin remains on our List and is leaving no stone unturned in his efforts to resume his career and deliver on his potential (and there is no doubt he has the potential)

We should all wish him the very best in his endeavours

And wait and see the outcome - noting that the last thing we should be doing at this juncture is putting more pressure on him

He will be putting sufficient pressure on himself

Herald Sun is an entertainment rag. Focuses on evoking emotion to make people buy. Very little fact checking and research... even less integrity.

It’s not real journalism and scoffed at by the educated in society.

You’re a fool if you spend money on it

And on “left” and “right” as introduced above, no one is always right (excuse the pun) just as no one is always wrong

The only comment I would add is that, being of the Stiglitz school, I do not subscribe to austerity delivering confidence and that confidence tricking down, which is the ideology of the “right” of the political spectrum and an ideology which continues to inflict the damage it is inflicting confirmed by where interest rates are noting particularly where the 10 Year Bond Yield is at (0.89%, the lowest quote in history, the highest being 16.8% in 1982, both after 6/7 years of Conservative government)

So superimpose “left” and “right” onto that

“Left” and “Right” are just convenient, lazy windy rhetoric of apologists - it is the impact which should be analysed and debated

No need for sorry

Just take the commentary to the next level - where the rubber hits the road so as to speak

So it makes attacks harder to be justified

Read Joseph Stiglitz, who was in the press last week (and I read the article on Marketwatch which is Murdoch, so make of that what you might!)

I prefer my status as an apologist , it's the way I roll these days, requires less energy.
My ability to absorb attacks has increased. Left is right

Very much agree with your sentiments SMS, just not the 2nd paragraph.

A terrible year to have the #1 pick. Yes, he has talent which was highlighted against kids, diluted against men and fitter footballers. We spent our pick on a "mark / kick" footballer, dreaming of Plugger, as Roo headed into his twilight years and seeming desperation after the Dogs beat us to Boyd.

All the best to the young man, I hope his family get in his ear. There's no disgrace in retiring if your brain cannot protect itself. Nothing but respect for the likes of Picken & Stevens.

He showed enough in a short time. That day he dominated Richmond's vaunted backline for 30 minutes before getting injured again was a sight to behold.
