Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
From the heraldsun.com
"As for St Kilda ... remember Steven Bradbury? Well, the Saints are Bradbury and those teams above them are his rivals.
Brett Ratten’s men must beat Carlton (MCG) and Sydney (SCG) and hope for the best.
It’s more than likely the Saints — with a percentage of 85.3 — will be out of calculations after Round 22, but where there’s a way, there’s hope.

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
There is no chance because of our percentage. We need to win both games and all the teams above us to lose both. This includes the doggoes and crows who play each other , so the only chance we have is if they draw and everyone loses every game.

Dockers should beat the Bombers in Perth.
Hawks should beat the Suns.
It makes our job a bit harder

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
The killer is Bulldogs vs Crows in the last round... assuming one beats the other, the best we can do is miss out on %.
If that game was a draw...
then we're a chance

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
I’ve done the calculator it is nigh impossible unless a) a draw or b) massive wins to us / massive losses to those above.
The highest I could have is finish was 9th

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
To finish 8th we need...
To win both games vs Carlton and Sydney.
Essendon to lose to Fremantle & Collingwood. We need to make up the percentage gap to Essendon, which is about 155 points.
We also need...
Collingwood to defeat Adelaide.
GWS to defeat Bulldogs.
West Coast to defeat Hawthorn.
Port to defeat Fremantle.
Bulldogs to draw with Adelaide (or Dogs defeat Adelaide and we make up roughly 230 points on the dogs).
Whichever way you look it, it'd take a miracle.

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
Yes that % is the Killer.
It would take two of those thrashings like we gave the Dons one year in our last game of the H&A season to sneak into the finals. That game was both surreal, as well as very sweet

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
Bulldogs clear favorites to beat Adelaide. And we are $3.78 against Sydney! Geez...and Sydney have lost their last six!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Soooooooooo.....best we finish a bit further down for a better draft pick. Want to see a great performance in the last two games....and.....a pick well inside the top ten.

You reckon that pick 9 is as much a lottery as pick 6?kosifantutti wrote: ↑Fri 16 Aug 2019 12:16amWell that always works.
Am thinking mainly for trade value. It seems very possible we wont be taking our first rounder to the draft.

I’d rather win and let the “clever” teams like Carlton and Melbourne manipulate the draft.

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
Why?
We have the likelihood of Ratts beings appointed coach and the chance to beat Carlton. When we play Carlton it’s never “dead”!
I just loath how ridiculously long the off season is. I reckon a 27 round season would make a huge difference

Re: Where there is still a faint heartbeat.....
a couple of wins
would seem attractive
create some passion for the pre season
... and all that could grow out of that UP vibe
i’m on take the wins
at this juncture in development
to hustle a pick out of the afl for paddy
would be a bonus as well

We’re non-contenders, again. 8 consecutive seasons without a single finals appearance, that’s why!

Exactly. No game against Carlton is a dead rubber.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Fri 16 Aug 2019 10:30amWhy?

In fact I remember two games against Carlton where finals were out of the question for both sides, but there was a hell of a lot of feeling.
We played them in the final round of 2012, both teams couldn't make the 8 but there were fights all day, their fans booed Milne til they were red in the face, then we jagged three late ones to snatch the win, Milney kicking the goal to put us in front. A hugely satisfying win.
The other was late in 2003. Finals were out of reach for both sides, but we were on the improve. We went to Princes Park, where we'd beaten them once in nearly 40 years, and absolutely pulverized them by 91 points. Our biggest ever win at that dump. They'd pushed us around for over 100 years, this day felt like the turning point. We had a 19% success rate against Carlton prior to that day, since then it's 75%.
They might have been "dead rubbers", but those games had a lot of life.
