Kudos to Holller For
OMG when our big champ went down we all feared a knee injury.
But the brave heroic warrior that the young man is came back to fight on.
He was clearly hampered by the knock, but kept it plugging away and still managed 20 possessions.
If ever anyone deserves a coaches award for being a team player today it was Marshall hands down.
We have a stayer on our hands. Sign the boy up until he’s 30!

Exactly. And that’s the reason why, if we could get Goldy as a FA for a couple years ... we should be all over it

So you reckon Goldy would be happy to play at Sandy all year just in case Marshall gets injured.
Goldie could probably name his price with GWS if he was prepared to go there. They desperately need a genuine No1 as Mummy is cooked.

I thought today showed that if we can get a player good enough to demand a spot in the 22 and also play ruck - in tandem with Marshall - then get him in - if Marshall stayed off today we had no one - they had 2 rucks - we loosesaintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 8:36pmSo you reckon Goldy would be happy to play at Sandy all year just in case Marshall gets injured.

Playing two ruckmen is stupid, unless one can seriously play Key Forward.
If we recruit Goldstein and he takes any minutes off Marshall... I’ll spew up!!

So you would play every game at a disadvantage for the one game that Marshall may get injured?
I would rather be a better chance of winning the other 21 games in the season.

Re: Kudos to Holller For
What about Josh Jenkins? He’s on the outer at the Crows, he plays forward and he’s regularly smashed us, and he’s a Vic - surely we could do worse than the big JJ for a couple of years? I’m surprised he’s not being discussed...?

Not the worst idea but would you play him ahead of King, Membrey & Bruce? The Linton Street Flash wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 9:13pm What about Josh Jenkins? Re: Kudos to Holller For
King might be in and out of the team a bit, he looks skinny and you’d imagine it’d take him a while to fill out and get a man’s body. It surely wouldn’t be the worst problem in the world to have King and JJ battling it out for a spot in the team?
PS: although, when I think of it, it didn’t take me very long to fill out and get a man’s body... about 16 years was all, shame it was that of an old fat bloke, not theJosh jenkins model!

Marshall ruck.
Bruce CHF.
Membrey FP.
King FF.
King and Bruce relieving Marshall at times during the game.
Chuck in the smalls like Lonie, Long, Gresham, Hind.
I'm having offensive dreams about our forward line in 2020 already.

Re: Kudos to Holller For
Right, time for some perspective on our ruck situation.
Carlisle must second ruck like he did at some points today and he must rest forward while Marshall continues to be first ruck.
We don't need two gorillas in the back half and Carlisle is too slow to impact heavily there early in games, despite his heroic intercept marks late in today's game.
I said at the start of the year that these two were our best ruck combo, despite Longer and Pierce being on the list.
To think that King will play this role next year is highly speculative.
In two or three years maybe, when he builds the body to compete with gorillas, but until then Carlisle fits the bill quite well IMHO.

Re: Kudos to Holller For
People saying King won’t affect the team next year I don’t agree.
He is a supreme athlete and will turn 20 during the season just look at his brother this year.
202 Cm running machine that marks at its highest point he will be a handful for anyone that stands him.

Re: Kudos to Holller For
Why would it be a disadvantage to have another good player who can ruck in the team ? The only problem I see is if we have and king and Bruce are we too tall with Marshall for example resting forward ? Luckily we are no longer trying to squeeze Paddy into that mixsaintsRrising wrote: ↑Sun 11 Aug 2019 9:12pmSo you would play every game at a disadvantage for the one game that Marshall may get injured?

Because playing two rucks means one less mid played.
Because Goldie can only play No1 Ruck, and that means stunting Marshall's development as a ruck.
And YES: If we have and King and Bruce (as well as Membrey who is a marking target) we are too tall with Marshall resting forward .
We will lack foward pressure.
When Max plays, then he Bruce and Carlisle can all give Marshall a chop out in the ruck.

We only need a Seconds Ruckman
I wouldn’t care if it was still Longer or Pierce... but I think they are gone.
Maybe the young guy from Port Power?

Re: Kudos to Holller For
I believe Ryder is the perfect fit. Let King develop as a key forward for two years, build size & strength, no need to expose him in the ruck for 3 seasons, if at all.
Membrey is very good on the ground, he handles the ball like a mid and is a very good runner.
Marshall / Ryder can alternate between ruck, forward pocket & interchange. He'll develop even quicker with Ryder, as a ruck & forward.
