Eleni Umpiring Saints v Freo

It wasn't great umpiring today but the only reason it's getting all this attention is so that forumites can pile in and enjoy abusing a woman without being called out for sexism - witness Special's remarks about "the bitch in green" in another thread. The calls are actually no better or worse than ever but a female umpire is more visible. Most of the time we don't notice which umpire's making which decisions. Every time Eleni makes a call it's getting questioned because it's her - then, when you look at the replays, the decisions are mostly correct.

I'd even suggest that some of the threads appearing on this forum amount to deliberate baiting - forumites longing for the opportunity to put the boot in at anyone who suggests this is sexist behaviour. Just take a breath and rewatch the Adam Goodes doco.

I don't really think the argument was ever that umpires never get it wrong or have bad games.
Just that not every bad umpiring performance is a result of corruption and an anti-Saints stance

They weren't as bad so they don't deserve one. That is the second s*** Saints game she has umpired this year. She got sacked after the last one. Knowing the AFL, she will get a promotion next year.

saw the 1st half on TV then had to go to work. Didn't even notice the umpires. If anything it looked to me that we got the better end of the deal in the 1st half. can't comment on the 2nd half

Gee. Like I said I missed the 2nd half so can't comment on a lot of that. However I just watched the last 2 minutes of the game. The only clear free kick in that last 2 minutes was a push in the back to Fyfe in the last 30 seconds when they were behind. Strangely no-one seems aggrieved about that lack of free kick???

You’re kidding surely. Would that be the same Caroline Wilson who was the subject of a ritual drowning on TV? And is that the same Caroline Wilson who was the subject of a Footy Show stunt with a blow-up doll and Sam Newman?
Apart from that she’s treated with the utmost respect.....

So many of the male commentators and journos have been the subject of similar stunts...

Maybe I'm biased but Eleni seems to make many glaring mistakes. That’s just my view and I might be wrong.

She has made a multitude of mistakes in both Saints games this year. Absolute howlers. She is not up to the pace and standard of AFL level. Said it before. Her signalling and voice is very weak which makes it hard to know what she is doing.
