Insights into the mind of ‘cho’

Post: # 1814499Post Saint wagga »

From the afl article - Steven is a goner. Richo blocked him going home last year, reckon that led to him ‘sitting out’ a lot of this year, you’d have to think so. Geez Steven has done well to keep the narrative in his favour but reckon there was a ‘spit the dummy’ after being blocked?!

Sounds like richo was losing the plot last year. The guy is deluded...’doesn’t think he’d want to senior coach again...mate, I don’t think that’s a proposition you’ll have to worry about 😂😂

Terrible senior coach, has left our club in an absolute shambles!!

Heard the interview this morning & my take is totally different
Richo again was all class in the interview & spoke very highly of the club and our playing group. He could have easily rolled in with anger & frustration.
As a 50 year old supporter I am proud that we had a man of such high integrity coach the club.
He told Jack last year "we need you mate". To me that is the perfect response to a 4 time nest & fairest winner.
Far from shambles - he leaves the club in a far better condition to move forward than when he arrived.
He clearly did not say that he wants to coach again - he spoke of other support roles around coaches that interests him. My head suggests & even in the media today he is in demand.

Good luck Alan. The fruits of your labour with the saints will be seen in the short term

The SEN interview is also there.

Link is: https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode?id=405750

My take is much more like St Sandy saw things.

Compare this interview to Scott Watters' interview that came out last week and decide who was better for our club?? There's a guy who's deluded, and left our club in a shambles....

I think Cho was very good this morning. Very measured and understanding of his own strengths and weaknesses - albeit a bit late. He's clearly known for a while that he was not cut out to be a Senior Coach and yet, we as a Club somehow persisted in trying to turn him into one. The only conclusion I can draw from that is that, instead of cutting the cord and re-starting ... we simply couldn't afford the $ to. Again - well done Finnis for that noose you put around our neck.

Cho fell into the trap of playing his favourites - as did Ross Lyon - at the expense of giving other, more deserving (on form) players a go instead. That in turn hampers on the job player development. We've now seen what Coffield and Clark look like with a decent block of games behind them.

Cho will walk into a job as a Director of Coaching in a heartbeat. And he'll be better at that job for having been our Coach.

Good luck to him but I feel more comfortable with Ratten at the wheel instead.

Didn’t hear the interview, just read the article on the afl website...Yes Watters totally discombobulated in his last year and he was simply the gap fill coach we probably needed to have as the list was stripped back...he was doomed to fail.

But richardson had 4 years to mould the list, game style and whole culture of the club and he has failed in every single category...damning. Yes he’s better at using nice easy listening self reflection but that’s exactly what’s wrong with our club from the top down...we say all the right things but we are hollow. There’s no substance there and I’m just fed up with it. It’s gotten us knowhere. We have the least inspiring list bar Gold Coast. We don’t have a single marquee player, we have a player in Gresham getting away with the most ridiculous selfishness and not getting pulled up by the leadership group. We are a rudderless ship from a player leadership perspective and challenge anyone to argue otherwise compared with every other club bar Gold Coast.

Perfectly said. It was a good exit all around and thanks Alan. He will kill it with whatever he does next in life.

Whilst I appreciate the grace with with Richardson left, this post is more congruent with reality for me. No doubt Richo is a nice bloke, but he was a rubbish coach and I’m not so sure about St.Sandy’s take that the club is in better shape thanks to him. Time will tell in the regard. When he was hired he was supposedly very strong in developing players. Turns out he wasn’t and that is the greater legacy he leaves in my view. A group of young players miles from realising their potential under his watch.

Are you trying to suggest Jack Steven has basically forfeit the season because he didn’t get his own way?

Jack has been dealing with some pretty heavy personal problems. To my knowledge, that is why his season has been interrupted. From what I’ve heard, it seems perfectly plausible as well

I’m suggesting you’d have to consider it wouldn’t you? He’s human, it’s certainly happened plenty of times in the past. I’m guessing the ‘only’ people that know what problems jack has been dealing with are jack and absolutely those closest to him. If that’s you saintersist, then ok, but otherwise, every other rumour, whisper etc is just hearsay.

This isn’t a character assasination of jack, I’m just saying he wouldn’t be the first and won’t be the last player who’s dropped his bundle after being strong handed by a club. It’s more an indictment on Richardson for be8ng so blinkered into black balling any trade

There is NO WAY KNOWN the club could have traded our best player, with 2 years to run on a very lucrative contract, at the end of last season after the year we had. We would have grabbed our pitchforks and torches and burnt Moorabbin to the ground if that had happened, and I would have been first in line. Richo had no choice but to decline the request.

Everyone has stuff happening in their private lives that affects their work. If Jack had to move to Lorne so desperately, go ahead, retire from the AFL and get a real job at the Lorne fish and chip shop - Richo blocking the trade does not stop Jack from moving down there, it just stops St Kilda handing Geelong a leg up to win another flag.

I don't even think we should do the trade this year. We've had to keep Armo on the list this year and pay him a significant amount for the privilage because he's contracted. Why do players expect contracts to be flexible when it suits them, and rock solid when they're gonna lose something....

Lethlean had a lot more to do with any trade last year compared to Richo. Richo said it himself.

Richo ruined the club and left it in bad shape.
His ridiculous game plans and stubborness has cost us games.
Playing guys out of position, stifling creativity, sowing doubts...
Club had to send him to USA for some expensive course, and for what? So he could read some home truths about himself written by Geary? What about feedback during the year? Everyone's supposed to get reviewed, aren't they?

Dunno...how do you get away with posting pornographic content on here?

Anyways, requires a 'T' and a 'C' to breach the rules.

FWIW, I also think 'cho's been true to his honest form on departure and has taken responsibility for his deficiencies. I reckon he's handled his departure well, as has the club.

Richo refers to Lethleans conversation with Jack a couple of times suggesting he didn't know what went on in those conversations. Lethlean is a smart operator I bet he was open to letting Jack go last year and making the most of a midfield super draft or trades. Richo.was trying to save his own backside so he stone walled the move, no thought for the player or club going forward.

Not sure AR could have done much better with the cattle he had.... except 2018

2014-2017 went as expected
2019 was pretty much where we are at

List build was mismanaged by Pelchen policies

The back half of 2017 was awful.

All of 2018 reeked.

2019 was poor.

The way I see it, is that Cho took on a very difficult role at a very difficult time - and an AA year from Nick Riewoldt fudged the figures in what was a very, very underwhelming stint as head coach.

FWIW though, as tough as it's been as a supporter, it was the recession we had to have. It probably didn't matter who took over when Cho did. With aging stars and compromised drafts, we realistically were always going to take quite some time to steady the ship.

Cho and Finnis were probably good people to have in charge to avoid a complete and utter meltdown. Those two were never bound for glory - but they avoided the inevitable Saints implosion.
