Geelong (allegedly) makes first offer for Stuv
Charlie Constable and Ryan Abbott.
Constable sounds like the type of player we could use in the midfield and is only 20 years old. Abbott, on the other hand, sounds like a replacement for Billy Longer who is actually worse than Longer. A ruck who can’t get a game for a team with second-rate rucks sounds like a genuine list clogger. We should try and squeeze Geelong for a 2nd round pick with Constable instead.

Constable will be a very good player. He is mates with the King boys. Chuck in a 2nd or 3rd rounder and it's a done deal.
I love Jack but if he wants to go home near Lorne and play his last 2-3 years there then fair enough. He will never be the B and F player he was again whilst we get a kid with over 10 years ahead of him that will be a good mid. Plus a draft pick would be nice.

I'm sure the usual suspects will jump up and down about losing a 4 time B & F (blah blah blah) but quite frankly, if we could get a 20yo / 191cm / 87 kg mid / Rising Star Nomination then , in the absence of getting Geelong's R1 pick - I'd not be overly unhappy with that. My only knock on it is that I'd prefer to see us get a like-for-like (i.e. speedy outside player with good footskills) replacement. Constable is more in the mould of a Patrick Cripps style mid. Was also a year below Josh Battle at Hailebury.

Re: Geelong (allegedly) makes first offer for Stuv
Though if a club chasing Steven had that type of player spare of the quality that we want then they would not need Steven in the first place.
If you concede that we are more likely to be a contender again in 2021+, then a trade for Constable plus extras, makes a lot of sense.
For the outside speed then try and trade for say Hill (not Martin).

Oh and Abbott. I think we can do better for a back up ruck. Cats will need to through in pics or a different player.

Constable also captained Old Haileybury U19 ammos to a premiership and won the comp B&F. Has some leadership qualities is my point. Agree with the idea of swapping Stuv for him plus a pick. Abbott schmabbot. The last thing we need is another list clogging ruckman.

Re: Geelong (allegedly) makes first offer for Stuv
Constable plus 1st Round (likely pick 15 to 19)
Steven plus 4th round (starting point) or compensation for Newnes (if he explores other options)
Draft Kemp with pick 5 to 7, then next best available with pick 15 to 19.
Oh to dream!

I reckon we’ll ask for cockatoo after our high performance team convince Lethers they can ‘get him right’
Geelong have payed fair price for players they want in recent history, they’ll want stuv and we should try and get their 1st rd pick if possible given its only going to be in around pick 15

We’ve had about 8.3 million goes at Tomlinson. Finally, with Gubby in our midst do I feel like we might actually be able to get him.saintfox wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 2:28pm yes please constable plus stanley/buzza deal done

+100000000. Te perfect replacement for Stuv is Brad Hill. Box to box midfielder who’s a better kick and gets forward to kick a goal. I’d love him at the SaintssaintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 1:34pmThough if a club chasing Steven had that type of player spare of the quality that we want then they would not need Steven in the first place.

For what it's worth, Tom Morris (On the Couch) last night was re-iterating that Brad Hill's preferred destination was the Saints but it was the panel's view that it would take 2 first rounders to get a deal done.

If we dont command a first rounder, even a BETTER first rounder than what Geelong have then we are kidding ourselves.
A CONTRACTED four time best and fairest winner.. you want to let him go for nothing?
f*** geelong. Seriously f*** them.
IF it needs to then Stuv can stand out for a year. He has already.

What value of 4 x B&F if he does not want to play for us??bigred wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 4:49pm If we dont command a first rounder, even a BETTER first rounder than what Geelong have then we are kidding ourselves.

If you get like for like - there will be no trade - we need to look to teams that have young talent but need to have experience added if Jack wants to move - this trade meets that - a win/win - we get a younger possible many gamer - Jack goes to Geelong to fill a hole for them.
All offers must be considered - not just 1st rounders - because I do not think that Jack commands a top ten draft pick having sat out this year!

I would take Constable + a second or 3rd round pick.

Plus Stuv will be 30 at the start of next season. Heading towards the back end of his career. Not saying he hasn’t still got good footy in him, but it’s fair to surmise his best may be behind him.Viscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 5:07pm I would take Constable + a second or 3rd round pick.

Constable is pretty promising too, 20 yo and averaging 21 touches and nearly a goal a game in his 7 games this year.

Yep he looks good. Fitted right in straight off the bat to a midfield with Selwood, Dangerfield and GablettViscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 5:23pm Constable is pretty promising too, 20 yo and averaging 21 touches and nearly a goal a game in his 7 games this year.

Our love of premierships simply must overtake our love of individual players. If jack wants to stay, then tell Geelong to get stuffed. If he wants to go, then reasonable value is reasonable.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 5:03pmWhat value of 4 x B&F if he does not want to play for us??bigred wrote: ↑Tue 06 Aug 2019 4:49pm If we dont command a first rounder, even a BETTER first rounder than what Geelong have then we are kidding ourselves.

The young Rising Star nominee (to me) is reasonable value, or at least a very good start
