You do realise the salary cap has increased massively...even in the past 5 years so what players were paid compared to now is non comparable.

No one has a clue what Dan or Jack are on.

Billings is close to our best player and easily top 3.
Hannebery is year 1 into 5. Time will tell whether his recruitment was good or not...or worth it.
Both deserve good $'s in any case.

I'm sure quite a few supporters understand this but when your club is over $5 million in debt and counting, has had limited success, has a crap stadium deal in terms of royalties, then you would expect much better fiscal management of funds from your administration. That's why personally, i don't think much of Lethlean and whatever, hard to conceive motive he had, for giving such a long and expensive contract to a broken 28 year old player. The $$ in the salary cap could have been spent much better imho. I would gladly give the Hannebury deal up in a heartbeat, if it meant clearing at least half our current debt.

So can someone explain to me what the consequences would be of a club say only spending 75% of the salary cap one year?

Yep. It's illegal and not allowed. You have to pay a certain % of the cap every year. Not sure what it is.

Is it 95%? It really is a joke. That rule is a key reason why smaller clubs get trapped in rubbish, over inflated contracts. How can the GC or our list be at best only 5% worse in monetary value to Geelong, WCE or Collingwood?
It makes poaching so much easier for the big clubs.

Same as Carlisle. It's true coaches can help influence a player to come to the club. Clearly Dan was impressed by Alan, same as a heap of other players we got like Steele, Bruce, Membrey, Stevens, Brown, etc.
