Re: Trade Long
Definitely not trade him.
He is a beautiful kick of the footy.... I would play him off half back flank sweeping down the wing, a bit like Aussie Jones.

Re: Trade Long
Long is a keeper. The Rioli we never drafted, when we had the chance.

Re: Trade Long
I think Long just needs to be given a role but allow him to use some of his own instinct. Game time is paramount but maybe challenge him quarter by quarter rather than complicating his game by having set whole game instruction. To good a player to get rid of.

Re: Trade Long
In the Dees Game I though that Long played a lot more disciplined and settled. Good sign.
In many previous games he just seemed to be often playing too hot-headed and with no real thought about what was best to do.

Re: Trade Long
I haven't rated Ben too highly, mainly because he seems to go missing for long periods of time during the match. Saturday night was his best effort to date in my opinion.
I was particularly impressed by his ability to sneak to the front of his opponent just as the ball is coming in. A neat trick that I hope he continues to perfect. He is a hard tackler, what we need in our forward 50.

Re Long.
Geez give the KID a break. This is pro footy. Do you realise all the things you have to know/remember and execute. Massive step up from suburban kick to kick.
Long and Parker in 2020 or 2021 will be guns. Some kids like walsh come into the system already knowing the systems and all that rubbish. Be patient we have a good list. Gresham in the middle, wow!

I think we've done well with 3 out of 4, Wilkie, Hind & Parker. Young will need a big pre season, another year in the system to see if he's got it.
To be fair, 18 clubs were scared. Richmond were smart enough to trial him and get to know and understand him.

Re: Trade Long
Agree. It was the best game I've seen him play. Disciplined but dangerous and a real focal point up forward.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 29 Jul 2019 7:42pm In the Dees Game I though that Long played a lot more disciplined and settled. Good sign.

Re: Trade Long
+1 for that being his best game. Genuine link-up player with excitement, who can set others up and kick his own goals.
But I feel he had more space than he would usually get. Can he have the same impact in traffic against a better team without going missing? That's the test.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: Trade Long
I think what is even more impressive about his performance was that it was after he'd had a weeks break after going to his grandads funeralevertonfc wrote: ↑Tue 30 Jul 2019 10:47am +1 for that being his best game. Genuine link-up player with excitement, who can set others up and kick his own goals.

Can you imagine what he could produce if he gets continuity and when his teammates start getting used to his running patterns. His disposal was Tommy Lynch like( the Adelaide version).
Once our mids honour more of his leads and use him as the connecter I think our forward line will start clicking

Enjoyed Long's work against Dees.
Ben moves very well & he showed he can deliver between the big sticks.
I'm with oldie60 on keeping Ben on board.
