Caretaker or Caretanker?

Which is your choice? I always want us to win, regardless of the loss of draft picks, but how do you feel?

These players need some reward and to get their confidence back. A win of course

I like the idea of winning the No 2 draft pick.
Inconsistent effort, the players deserve nothing more than their pay, not even that.

Will never support tanking. In this day and age why would you? Could have an impact on future coaching propositions and you can rule a line through free agents/trades. Have a good last handful of games and it can make a world of difference.

I'd like to see more opportunities given to younger players with an eye to next year. If that results in more losing, so be it. If the team comes together and has a strong finish to the season, that can only be a good thing.

I'd like to see debuts from Clavarino and Langlands. I'd like to see Clark and Coffield pushed up the ground to make room for White and potentially Marsh or Rice. I'd like to see a little less grunt in the middle in favour of a little more class.

I don't care about our draft position. If we get pick 2 and get Anderson, great. If we don't, that's fine too. The goal here is to build for next year and beyond.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

Losing is the worst thing for a club and everyone involved especially with where we are at. We need a winning culture quickly and anyone says we should tank to get draft picks hasn't got a clue.

Agree, we get the draft picks we deserve, those are then ours to bring into the right culture, right environment. Get that right and our draft picks have a better chance of being the players we want.

Get the pick that gives you the best chance of getting some A class talent on to the list
Manage that however
Results now pointless
Ratten ought to be judged on seperate metrics to season end eg youth development

Tanking destroyed Dees as a culture.
Try to win every game, but also play the kids.
White, Coffield, Clark should alk play last 6 games.

What St.Kilda needs is:
*A coach who understands the game
*A coach who is a good tactician
*A coach who can communicate with the players
*A coach with a future plan
We just have to hope these four guys all get on well...

I agree with the yes, “win please, win first”

To do that you have to park ideas about our great team from the mid 00’s and much of its talent came - at least in terms of personnel - from “the cellar”.

There is also the ‘soft-tank’ , leave out Brown and co., try to win with kids playing their skins off but the team then invariably gets opened up with lapses of concentration and we have one terrible (fatal) quarter each game. Mind you, we are pretty good at that already.

I wanna win.

As Rooney said last night, “it’s an impatient club” , “ waited too long” etc., damn that must heart saying those words and remembering Heath Shaw’s smother etc.,

Spot on. I hope the boys play out of their skins for Ratts and we we win a few games. If we can emulate the form of Carlton or Kangaroos I'll be stoked. Hope Ratts gets the gig too

What is the point of having a recruiting department if they are just looking for under 18 kids in the spotlight and safe top 10 options. We need our guys to uncover the next Tim Kelly, Sydney Stack, Brody Mihocek and....Rowan Marshall

Now Cho is gone at last let’s win.

Losses were convenient the past fortnight to help us move on, but now we need to turn the leaf.

Honorable losses is tempting for the draft pick but prefer a winning culture.

Look at Geelong. I don't think bottoming out again is the way.

Never tank ever. The guys play to win or play to improve. Sure you don't won every game but players want to play for a team with heart and soul. Ask yourself why no one wants to come to st Kilda. We play poor footy and we lose. We start playing better and we start looking like a real option for better players thinking of leaving their own club.

Ratten should play to win but play the best players available. Mix it up with players that need more games and soon we start looking better

They say if you are just a few % off your best, you lose. If we wanna win, we pick the best possible 22 that night before the game.
On the other hand, if we wanna games into x,y and z we reduce our chance of winning. A conscious choice.

Out: Brown
In: (fill in the blanks)

I dunno where tanking starts to be honest, because continual investment in youth is necessary to sustain winning over the longer term, but a crucial punch or nudge when a game is on the line, could change things re. ladder position and don't forget, everytime we 'train' our boys out there in live game time, for premiership points, we offer an advantage to the opposition that goes beyond that particular game and those four points. We help them gain momentum as a team building "winning culture" and as individual players play themselves into form too.

No good tanking for a better draft position as we can't even pick our nose let a lone a decent player with our low picks. We should just select rookies.

What a start for Ratten. Welcome aboard the main man who can deliver a winning culture and unite this playing group

Only 1 really important individual needed who can unite the whole footy department and Ratts is our man. He has the credibility and the experience to be a very very good senior coach.

The Saints have a new leader who was also a champion player, captain, premiership player and Best and Fairest in that premiership year (as well as a couple of other B&F's) and also earnt himself a few All Australians. His coaching career has just enterred a new chapter

Looks like the team played for their new leader and are happy with their new leader. Someone who believes in the squad and someone who will help them enjoy their footy and play at their best.

Well, Ratten certainly outcoached Luke yesterday.

Good thing that the doggies offered him a timely extension, imho.
