Interesting selection
I know it’s only a selected team, and there maybe changes on the way it lines up, but
Five things most have been crying out for after getting rid of AR
Newnes dropped - lining up on the wing
Ross dropped - lining up in the midfield
Gresham Forward - lining up in the midfield
Acres in the guts - on the extended bench
White in the side - not even on extended bench, and Rowe, Rice, Joyce are
Seems not a lot has changed in selection as many hoped it would?
Is it possible, that Acres and White are just not that great, and that’s why they are often overlooked or played out of position?

Or is it possible that the caretaker coach is not a moron and is it not foolish enough to walk in and drop 5 blokes on day 1?B.M wrote: ↑Thu 18 Jul 2019 11:56pm I know it’s only a selected team, and there maybe changes on the way it lines up, but

Unless he wants to lose the players in record time of course.

Re: Interesting selection
Or he chooses who he thinks are the best 22 available?
Because he wants to win. Obviously he doesn’t read SS and choose what the fans want

A caretaker coach with 6 games to win over the club and players he wants to coach - is going to drop 5 blokes in week 1?

Re: Interesting selection
Yes, why not? The OP does not say drop 5 - drop two, bring in one, re-position two. If the selections under Richo were as bad as some posters continually made out, you would think the changes outlined would have occurred.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Fri 19 Jul 2019 9:56amA caretaker coach with 6 games to win over the club and players he wants to coach - is going to drop 5 blokes in week 1?
If a club selected who the fans wanted each week there would be only one positive outcome - No. 1 draft pick.

Re: Interesting selection
Ratten would have been part of the selection committee all year. So I doubt much will change from that respect.
A debutante in his first game in charge is change enough. That said, there's obviously more to the continued snubbing of White. Something he's doing isn't up to standard.

Re: Interesting selection
Slowly slowly is the best approach. The team is suck in its ways and will change over time mostly likely the preseason will see new structures game plans roles etc. Ratten will see this season out with a few changes and a cope more debuts for us. Is it Rowe stuck on 99 games. He will get a go last round I reckon

The key is to get more out of the same players.

Re: Interesting selection
You may find that he'll mix some positional stuff depending on how the games played. I think Richo seldom rolled the dice and switched players around. I also reckon that players will back themselves. If he tinkers too much he could lose the players internally which he needs to show trust and belief in the selected squad.

A foolish coach would jump in the hot seat and within 2 days be trying to shake things up.
Besides, for all we know the caretaker coach may believe that guys that have been underperforming have been doing so due to the roles the old coach had them playing.
Realistically, the only way he could lose the job is by losing the playing group within 6 weeks. What would the point be for Ratten to roll the dice now?

Re: Interesting selection
1/ With our injuries there are actually very few realistic selection alternatives available to Ratten to "mix it up"
2/ Final 22 is yet to be picked and we are also yet to see where the players picked actually play. not do is not really known. So what changes Ratten may or may
3/ On White. Given the make-up of our list, HBF is a very competitive location and even moreso at present as the club looks to have quite rightly decided to get games into both Clark and Coffield by playing them both there are present.

Re: Interesting selection
That is what I was getting at - you wouldn't, maybe because there is no justification, contrary to the rantings of some posters here. Maybe the coaches/selection committee know more about whether players are achieving what they were selected for compared to a few watching from the stands or on TV. For instance, calls to drop Seb Ross, are ridiculous.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Fri 19 Jul 2019 11:49amNo you wouldn't.takeaway wrote: ↑Fri 19 Jul 2019 10:08amYes, why not? Re: Interesting selection
Clarke and Coffield are ahead of White, that’s why they got a game ahead of him.
And until they perform poorly and are worse than him, they stay in front of him.
I’ll be watching the GOAT carefully this week. Maybe he should go head to head with Bontempelli, as posters think he could be that type of player?!
Seb is obviously in our best midfield.
Newnes is actually fringe imo and could easily be dropped.
Gresham should be a 70% 30% fwd/mid imo. He gives a bit of breakaway speed.something we lack without Steven.

However even if guys sucked, a 6 week care taker coach is hardly going to swing the axe when he's trying to win over the group.
The foolish suggestion from BM was that Ratten's selection are evidence that Cho was right all along.
That's just idiotic.

Re: Interesting selection
With this side, and positioning of players, I expect another loss.
Gresham in the middle will look lost, and Newnes on the ground will bear the same rotten fruit.
After another few losses - Only a matter of time before some posters begin to bag Ratten as the reason for failure...when it's just a C grade, vanilla list.
Of course Marshall and Hind are real positives.

Re: Interesting selection
Dropping Sebby sought of would be something some fans would be crying out for...well some of the pelicans on SS that is.
And just a small correction, we didn't get rid of AR, he resigned.

Re: Interesting selection
I like Gresham in the middle. He's clearly a Midfielder.
It's his awful kicking that needs to be worked on. He'll be a very good mid in a good system.

Re: Interesting selection
Not sold on Gresham in the middle, maybe if we had some decent accumulators he would be ok but at the moment he’s still just a 20 possie player and we need more than that.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Fri 19 Jul 2019 2:18pm I like Gresham in the middle. He's clearly a Midfielder.

Re: Interesting selection
Did I call this or what...
The new agenda is to prove that Richo wasn’t so bad after all.
Apparently after his 6 year tenure, new coach had until the first round of selection on Thursday night post the Monday resignation to prove things could be done better

Re: Interesting selection
Or possibly all it says is that two coaches now rate Blake's ability to be flexible and fill many different holes for them, week in, week out?
I missed the posts where he was referred to as GOAT B.M. But plenty, myself included, would just like to see him get a solid chance. What's to lose? Its not like the team has set the world on fire.

Re: Interesting selection
The new coach got the same problems that couldn't be controlled by the old coach and I'm guessing can't be controlled by the new coach...injuries, and to a big chunk of your A graders and key structural players.
New coach probably as smart as the old coach and won't drop players that can't be replaced with AFL ready players or players that are capable of playing the required roles or positions.
New coach will do the same thing as the old coach and blood new players as quickly as it can be done. Incidentally how many players did Alan introduce to AFL? must be some kind of record.
The old faves debate has been interesting to say the least.
