Cheap ?
Surely you're joking.

$800,000 a year for four years = 3.2 million for a broken down, injury riddled player way past his prime.
St.kilda also forfeited their 2nd round draft selection position in this years draft which is likely to be pick 20, 21, or 22.
THIS IS NOT CHEAP, particularly for a player who is only going to play two games this year.
I predicted Hannebery would play six games at best this year before breaking down on the day they recruited him.

It was clearly obvious to anyone with a clue that Dan Hannebery was cooked after two very ordinary and injury riddled years.
I was hoping the club/Lethlean would not be so stupid when I first heard they were interested.

Simon Lethlean's decision making is shoddy at best.
The fact that he cheated on his wife is evidence of his poor decision making and is the only reason the club has him in this position at the St.kilda football club in a role he has never held before. Shipped off to St.kilda as a dumping ground to resurrect his corporate career and now the football club has to endure this foolish incompetence and his flawed decision making.

He offered 1.4 million for Dylan Shiel which would have cost the club pick four and Max King.
The only thing that saved him from making another huge mistake was Dylan Shiel rejecting St.kilda's/ Lethlean's offer.

This year Hannebery has cost the club $400,000 for each game he has played.
And you write "Thank god Lethlean got him cheap"

Then there is the matter of Lethlean being good mates with Hannebery's father.

Given Lethlean is good mates with Brad Scott he should not be on the selection committee for the next coach.
Given his decisions on Hannebery and Shiel he should not be on the selection committee of anything to do with this football club.
Both Lethlean and Finnis should be shown the door right now just like Alan Richardson was.

Both of these AFL snake oil salesmen have made horrendous decisions affecting the forward trajectory of the football club.

Is it any wonder the St.kilda football club is looked upon as a basket case when it's had buffoon's calling the shots for almost it's entire history.
Yes Barks, I was taking the P1SS with the opening comment. If you've read my thoughts on his contract & amount you'd have a very clear idea on my thoughts.

Just thought I'd try some HM fishing, didn't expect to find myself as Captain Ahab. All good!
Cheers

I read many posts from people around the time he was recruited saying at least it didn't cost much which is completely ridiculous.
Lethlean gave up St.kilda's second round draft selection position for Hannebery on top of all the free money for a player who was cooked and anyone with a clue could clearly see he was cooked.
Incompetence on steroids.
I feel your pain Barks, nothing about the deal made sense. Someone on another thread suggested a part TWO to this trade, possibly this year. Whilst on the whole trading with Sydney has been mutually beneficial, I'm sure they couldn't believe there luck when Lethlean walked through the door with his offer. I'm also sure they won't be giving us Jones or a Fiorini because we were so accommodating with Dan Scanaweekly.

Let's pray we are not paying out Buddy's last 3 years with an option of two more if he's not in a wheelchair at the end of 2022.

Not another '5 year plan', please. 40 years ago it kept critics quiet for 4 years, it doesn't fly now. At least the 'by 2019 we'll be a premiership contender' was a nice spin on an old fob

Anyone else think we need to f*** Lethlean off?

Something about him is just not sitting right. I've bitched on these forums before about admin flogs that just repeatedly use our club as a springboard for their own agendas.

I don't really care about the Hana's money. Or Hana's fitness level in general. Would prefer to get more than two games a year out of him...but regardless.

Lethlean has an odour.

Disagree. Lethers is good for the club. He has brought in a number of good appointments. E.g. the assistants last year

We need a bit of mongrel. Lethers looks like he wants to get s*** sorted at Moorabbin.

ABSOLUTELY

He displays incredibly poor judgement and cheats on his wife, gets sacked from his AFL gig and then five minutes later he's shipped off to St.kilda and into a position he's never held before.

WHY?

There are two things that are infinite and definite ... the universe and St Kilda’s capacity to make stupid recruiting decisions.

St Kilda has been reemed by the AFL for several years, back in the day Grant Thomas would fight with them, but I feel Lethlean is actually an 'AFL plant' to ensure St Kilda tows the company line. Get rid of him, he's probably a traitor.

It wasn’t like we didn’t see this coming. The warning signs were there right from the start: a broken body and a penchant for Wizz Fizz.

We were being laughed at for instigating this trade for a reason. It was always going to be a huge gamble. If Hannebery had any dignity, he’d take a pay cut.

One thing that has been immensely painful over the last 18mths... Moreover here on this forum rather than at the club per’se is the constant attempts to put a positive spin onto what are clearly bad decisions and outcomes.

Hannebery is a great example of it.

Brought in to essentially be our best mid and a leader. One of the highest paid at the club and was pricey in terms of cost.

Almost 12 months in and he’s booted from the leadership group, and has missed all but 2 games of the season with the injury that all knew about and were concerned would derail the rest of his career... that I should confirm, we as a club have admitted was worse than we thought.

On every measurable level, the decision to recruit him for what we gave up was clearly a bad one.

Not to say that Dan can’t get better and still be a good player for us or even represent good value... but it’s clear that the basis for that outcome was not formed by our due diligence... it’s on hope and prayer that it’s okay.

I for one and sick to death of “hoping” things work out instead doing the due diligence and making informed decisions to help maximise the chances of getting the results we want.

We hoped that 2018 was an aberration
We hoped that Kent would be the outside mid that we wanted
We hoped that Hannebery would be ok
We hoped that 2019 we’d recover and play finals... that Richo was a better coach than we were seeing

On and on it went

You guys are being ridiculous and you are jealous of supporters who are uber positive

We are at the top of players lists for clubs to come to if you want to live in Melbourne

We are still a mathematical chance to make the 8

Hannas is still a valuable leader at our club and he could lead St Kilda as our captain when we win our second premiership

Can't be demeaning if it's true.

The man had an ongoing affair with an employee.
Then after being caught ( it's a fact he was caught AT WORK) and "resigning", he publically stated he was going to take a long break and focus on what mattered most....rebuilding his family. 4 and a bit months later he was hired at St Kilda....some kind of goddamn marriage rebuilding guru!!!!

I think as a newly appointed person to the role, he was under immense pressure ( no excuse). His affair began in September 2016 through the first week of April 2017 ( documented by several journalist with no denials).
He lied and said it was a very short, " few weeks" affair.
He only resigned the day AFTER Caroline Wilson named him and the woman he had an affair with in an article July 2017.

He made a mega speech about integrity and blah blah blah.
All things he didn't display.

Now we hired him to bring that integrity here.

I was against it 100%, not because people make mistakes but because he had a long term affair with a person under him at work and didn't show integrity until he was publically named. Red flags galore!!!

But he did what he was told, step down, be a good lad and he would get another appointment.

Now we have him. Can't go back. So I chose to let go of the past.

I won't trust him until I see him acting trustworthy. So far not so good with Hanner Scam.

The easiest thing is lying to yourself rather than confronting reality.
You were the guy that predicted we’d bounce back this year and play finals... comforting thoughts for you I guess
