Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
This is gathering momentum. Look out.
Personally, I think he would be a great head coach and instantly garner the respect of the playing group. The club would instantly rally behind him on all levels.
Harves is a very expierenced and gun assistant coach now. I reckon he would be ready and he wants a senior job.
What a dream return it would be for the Saints.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
On the Front Bar a few weeks ago he sounded very keen to be a head coach one day.
I’m not really keen having ex-champs coming back and taking on the head coaching gig, as there’s a 95% chance it ends in tears.

As a player he led by example and he wouldn’t be able to do that now.
Plus if it didn’t work out we’d have to “shoot Bambi”. I couldn’t go through that.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
He went for the gig when Richo got it.
He has six more years under his belt since then.
he would be a seriously good applicant, lets put it that way.
Depends on what his plan would be compared to the plan the asshats at the club want. And they are Asshats.
The list needs a turnover. If the powers that be don't want that, then it will be a hard sell.
I don't hold any fear about the past player, the club f****** legend coming in and coaching.
The last bloke that fit that bill, that checked all the boxes was Trevor Barker. He would have been a gun. An absolute gun coach in the way the game was played back then.
If we hired Robert Harvey as Senior Coach I would be right on board. Moreso than probably ever before.

Nup. Never experienced the ultimate success, which was ironically our fault.

If Ratten wins more than four it will be him.

Maybe. I think it's down to Harves, Scott or Ratta though.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
As opposed to the 99.28% of our history has ended?
The difference between Harvey and the recent champs such as Voss and Hird, he's done a very good apprenticeship. Buckley would have sunk if he'd gone straight in, but did some time in the background plus the unwavering support of his fan boi President.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
In his playing days his teammates often said that Harves doesn't speak up much, but whenever he did, everyone listened. I suspect there was a lot of tuning out and eye rolling whenever Richo spoke to the group. I wouldn't be against Harves being appointed as long as there is very strong support around him.

Hey, if you’re happy to see Harves, a club legend, 5 years from now in the same press conference we’ve seen Scott, Bolton and Richo in, then good on you.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jul 2019 11:39amUmpire Foot on the other hand...or an ex Collingwood player....
Not many coaches win premierships, and even less leave on their own terms. Not saying anything about his coaching ability, but ‘shooting bambi’ was an apt analogy.
I just don’t want that to happen.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
A friend of mine knows his dad Jeff, he had a chat with him a few days ago.
Rob is ready to get into a senior coaching role regardless of which team, he's prepared to move interstate if necessary.
He will apply for the Saints role, hoping he gets it & has success for himself, the Club & all of us !

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
Robert Harvey has done a very long coaching apprenticeship and would be most deserving of the opportunity to lead the St.kilda football club.bigred wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jul 2019 10:16am He went for the gig when Richo got it.

Only Nick Riewoldt and Lenny Hayes could rival Robert Harvey for levels of professionalism and detail during their playing careers.
I'd back Robert Harvey in any day to be as thorough and professional as one needs to be in a senior coaching role.
With quality assistants around him I'd be right on board with this appointment.

Harvey would and wants to have a crack whether he fails or not. Ex champ or not. It's not your choice. Harves will take the disappointment if it fails.The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jul 2019 12:48pmHey, if you’re happy to see Harves, a club legend, 5 years from now in the same press conference we’ve seen Scott, Bolton and Richo in, then good on you.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 17 Jul 2019 11:39amUmpire Foot on the other hand...or an ex Collingwood player....

He might be a fantastic coach.
I’m just saying what I don’t want to see happen in the end, which is the most likely outcome, which I am allowed to do.

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
I hope Harvey gets it! And he turns out to be a great head coach! Geez that’d be sweet! It’s probably worth a shot, we are such a low ebb, we need something huge to drag us out of the funk te club is in.
I’m reading bomber thomspon’s Book at the moment and I’m finding his footy coaching/philosophies interesting. There’s some fascinating stuff in there like flow diagrams and bullet point lists about things he took to head coach interviews and it’s given me insight into that pointy end kind of stuff. I think he was a football genius and was able to teach a generation of players a way to play the game...everything else aside about his personal battles etc and you feel Clarkson would be similar, rare football brains that can teach and bring players with them...
Hopefully Harvey could be that man too

Re: Rob Harvey in the running for head coach role
The fact that he’s a St Kilda great isn’t enough reason imo. He’d also need to be best qualified.
Does he have the communication skills? Is he tough enough? There’s a whole range of factors involved.
I just don’t see him as a senior coach ... but I have been wrong before.
Lenny, on the other hand ...

Buckley reckons Harves is ready to go and has been instrumental as his right hand man for the past 8 years. The more I think about it the more I want Banger to come home.
