He doesn’t play Key Forward, he’s not a marking target down the line. That’s what a Key Fwd does. Membrey and Bruce play this role.
He plays as A high half Forward.
I see you raised his size, so you are seduced by attributes, but not his output. If attributes were all it takes, Jake Stringer, Rhys Stanley would be champions. What he doesn’t have is the drive and competitiveness. He’s not aggressive enough at the contest. He might nearly be as big as Nat Fyfe, but he hasn’t got 1/10 the ability or hardness. So it doesn’t matte4 how big he is.
Put a ball on the ground between Acres and Steele or Dunstan and blow a whistle... I can tell you who would end up with the ball.
You mentioned he can do special things, why doesn’t he do them more often? Because he’s a tease, and 5hats all hell ever be. Play the odd good quarter, the odd good game... and a number of crap ones in between.

No doubt you are a Longer supporter - and a Geary supporter
The problem at St Kilda is that very average players are lauded for reasons that do not win football matches
And when we have a player who has the ability to win matches they are subject to the descriptions we see on here
Acres is not a forward pocket - and the usage of him as a decoy to take the attention of one of Geelong’s tall defensive intercept marking players was, in my view, errant
If we wanted opponents for the talk defensive intercept marking players play Marsh or Rowe - or even Joyce
Membrey was ineffective because of Geelong’s defensive height - as was Acres
Where Acres needs to concentrate is his overhead marking noting he will not have a dedicated defender as his opponent when playing in the mid field, which is where he should be deployed
