Gresham: The Quick Skilful Player, that isn't quick and can't kick.
Bitterly disappointed with Gresham.
He has the worst kicking technique I've seen since James Manson.
He's not quick, can't hold a tackle and is utterly appalling by foot.
What to do with Gresham? For mine, he's straight up trade bait.
He's not a physical player. That's not in his game. Fair enough.
But his skills are awful. Unless a new coach can work on his offensive game, he's got to go whilst he has currency.
I just don't see upside.

Doesn't even average 1 Goal per week.
Doesn't even average 1 Goal Assist per week.
0.3 Tackles Inside 50.
5 Turnovers Per Week.
He came into the club full of class, skill and confidence. He's bereft of all of that now.
Hopefully it's not too late for someone to turn it around with him.
But I fear it is.

Is this a serious thread?
28 touches and 7 tackles tonight. 12 contested possies.
Omg....do you need the kid to get 40 touches and kick 5.0 to be happy?

Very very good around the goals but a very very lazy mid.
Lacks composure and is one of the main culprits when it comes to the long bomb.

Numbers aren't everything. His disposal wasn't flash. I'd prefer he stayed forward, had 15 and kicked 3. But that's just metedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sat 13 Jul 2019 11:30pm Is this a serious thread?

He 'was' good around goals. But hasn't been for a long time.

He obviously played as a mid hence the very high possie and tackle rate. Give the bloke a break. He tried his guts out.

Hence I would prefer he stayed "around the goals." Not mid

I'm critiquing his performance and offering my opinion on his abilities as a professional athlete.
It's not gospel. It's my opinion.
I think he has reached nowhere near the level most expected him to. And, his terrible kicking has somehow gone under the radar.
I'm shocked that the club has allowed him to continue with that technique.
I don't think he'll get better unless he can hold tackles, and improve his kicking.
Given that, I woyld absolutely trade him as he's one of the very few that woyld have currency.

Re: Gresham: The Quick Skilful Player, that isn't quick and can't kick.
Should be played as a small forward, that’s where he looked like a star.
Did he even hit one target by foot tonight? Seemed to constantly be kicking it blindy round his body.

Re: Gresham: The Quick Skilful Player, that isn't quick and can't kick.
He is not possessed of pace but does have a low Centre of gravity meaning he has good balance and is evasive able to turn defenders inside out
I see him as a genuine small forward able to impact on the scoreboard - with occasional runs thru the midfield
Once we assemble our tall forwards Gresham will become more dangerous
Defensively he has some work to do but the work on that will come
Mind you the best defence is having the ball in your hands especially within scoring range
It is frustrating to travel to Geelong, where Geelong have the absolute advantage for all the reasons they do then find your effort is rewarded by a serious lack of balance in the free kick numbers noting also what was not paid where precedent has been established going the other way
And to hear Scarlett lauded - I wonder what Neil Roberts thinks of that
Roberts is a gentleman and highly regarded
Scarlett is the exact opposite

His time as a mid this year will help his game going forward. It will make him more dangerous around goals when we get a better midfield overall. It's his first year as a mid, again...give him a break.

He can't kick
His goal kicking is absolutely deplorable.
A small forward that can't kick for goal isn't much value.

Poor kicking? Poor decision making? Missed goals? Missed tackles?
Care to remind me what our problems are again?

Marshall and Gresham. They were the difference in the first half.
Gresham is growing as a mid.
As a small forward he will kick 1-2 goals a game.
As a mid he will win us games.
Marshall and Gresham are important to our future.

He just seems to be making silly choices. Maybe he is trying too hard to live up to expectations, I dont know. Maybe he has an overinflated sense of his abilities This constant kicking the ball around the corner is bewildering as is his choices when kicking into forward 50.
Possibly with more class in the team or a hard arse coach, he will knock it off

Re: Gresham: The Quick Skilful Player, that isn't quick and can't kick.
The problem is our team balance.
We've been hit hard with injuries and are lacking quality mids.
If Gresh was playing for Geelong he'd be killing it.
We need quality mids, good run with injuries and a good coach and Gresh would be fine.
i reckon he played ok tonight. No issues at all.

Gresh is special. He does not need a hard arse coach. He simply needs to keep playing and learning. Marshall & Gresh were the reasons we were ahead of Geelong at half time.Crossy66 wrote: ↑Sun 14 Jul 2019 12:12am He just seems to be making silly choices. Look, I largely agree, but he needs to knock off the round the corner kicks and the over ambitious kicks. This whole team needs a harder edge, recruit some hard nuts and play with some aggression, it's what is driving north atm, ImhoShaggy wrote: ↑Sun 14 Jul 2019 12:25amGresh is special.
