Sounds reasonable to me. We need to find rucks for next year to help Marshall in any case.evertonfc wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 2:13pm Don't mind Goldstein as a teaching ruck and a year or two of service.
Would certainly aid Marshall's development and probably extend his own career by an extra season if Goldstein could take some heat off at the contest.
Certainly ends the Lewis Pearce experiment.

And at some point in his career, Max King will probably go through the middle, so there's quite a bit of information to be absorbed.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 2:15pmSounds reasonable to me. No Josh Jenkins thanks. Not a bad player but goes missing at times.

Jenkins is a better forward and second ruck though.
If we had a combo or Marshall rotating with Jenkins, Skunk and Bruce/King when he’a ready.
We would be a better team.

Re: Saints watching Goldstein
Hope this is a baseless rumour, because going after Goldstein is pointless and stupid. Why on earth would we?
Why wouldn't we continue developing Marshall? Playing Goldstein and Marshall in the same team is a fantasy, it wouldn't work.
I know as a Free Agent Goldstein won't cost anything trade wise, but how much is he going to expect to be paid? Do you want to pay him that to (hopefully) ruck for Sandy as a back up for Marshall?
Better off keeping Longer and drafting a kid.

Re: Saints watching Goldstein
Marshall and Goldstein can both play forward. He would give the side flexibility and provide ruck depth which we don't really have atm. Plus provide much needed senior expierence and leadership which the side is lacking. I would still get another ruck at draft and trade time too.

Re: Saints watching Goldstein
The head coach arrived in 2014. Stanley, Hickey and Longer were all at his disposal in his first year at St Kilda and it was his job to assess the worth of these guys and build confidence in these guys and have a relationship with these guys so that they perform at their best for the team.
It seems now, in his view, that all the ruckman under his tutellage in those early years were not worthy of retaining. He certainly didn't rate them as highly as the teams who were willing to trade for them. The club clearly failed to get the best out of players who showed great early promise including the rucks that we got who were round 1 draft picks. The head coach has to take most of the blame.
In 2017 when only Hickey and Longer were left Richo decided that Longer was his best option. It seems that we are again looking at ruck options for 2020 now that Longer's papers are stamped. There in lies one of the biggest reasons that I believe Richo is not cut out to be a head coach. He over rates some players and bizarrely under rates others. I reckon Rhys Stanley will be playing in a grand final just like Ben McEvoy did
Some of the strangest decisions and worst trades in the last 6-7 years at St Kilda have revolved around us trying to find the perfect ruckman. Why are we at it again. It's not like we are in a premiership window or anything. What we need to do is get our development coaching up to the level of Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney and West Coast. It is pointless getting in good players if our coaching is sub par

Rowan Marshall was not the first choice ruck this season, in all probability he was behind both Longer & Pierce.Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 3:36pm The head coach arrived in 2014. Thank goodness the accidental ruckman was not traded as after only 20 odd games he is in our top 5 players at the moment.

Would rather have Goldstein than Longer. Longer is surely marked for de-listing at season’s end. Goldstein could play a couple of years whilst Marshall develops. Reminds me of King and Gardiner, both of whom were worthwhile pickups.Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 2:49pm Hope this is a baseless rumour, because going after Goldstein is pointless and stupid. If we finish the year quite well... get him. I’m quietly confident about 2020. It’s pretty tragic seeing Bruce and Acres go up against 7 footers.

I remember that match. Against the Filth at the Dome. Crapuono wouldn't have a go in the ruck and was replaced by a very young Matty Maquire who performed much better.ausfatcat wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 8:38amDidn't Grant make a statement saying we don't accept mediocrity or something and sacked him mid season?BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Thu 06 Jun 2019 7:30amHe was sacked. So he was under the pump, I think he played 20-odd games before hanging up the boots.
I also remember as I was leaving the ground seeing Barry Lawrence paying out big time to anyone who was listening about the coach. Don't
think young Steve or Crapuono ever played for the Saints again after that night.

And, how's this scenario...ball is in our back 50, Marshall is rucking a throw in, we go along the wings and bomb it in to our F50, where either a throw-in or ball-up is called.
