Matty Parker Goal Celebrations

I love Matty and his celebrations. I am sick of the robotic world we are creating where no one is allowed to have a bit of flair or personality. Keep up the good work Matty, glad you got to celebrate a round that meant a lot to you personally.

Another thing Matty Parker does, if you watch closely. The last thing he does before he walks in to kick for goal (a set shot), with his left hand he touches the tattoo on the right side of his neck. I wonder what/who that tattoo refers to?

Oh and for the culturally insensitive on this thread, Matty’s celebration after that goal was a movement that was performed pre-game by the indigenous performers. It was highlighted on 360 on Fox where they simultaneously showed (split screen) Matt’s celebration movements and those of the performers - practically identical. Also Jade Gresham in an interview stated, that Matt had said to the boys (I think he was referring to our indigenous players) if there was a chance for a celebration he would do something of significance for the round.

Anyway folks watch for his mannerism of touching the tattoo on his neck.......... it’s a real last second thing before he walks in to kick. Maybe Matty will become the Steve Smith of the Saints, full of repetitive mannerisms........... just s’posing

He explained it in an interview earlier in the year. There's a tattoo of his son's name on his neck and he touches it as part of his goal-kicking routine.

Parker touches his neck because it's his sons or wifes name I believe. Just a pre goal routine it seems.

Thought he carried on like a goose for a bloke who has played 10 games. Was embarrassing. He's lucky to even be in the team before that game. Needs to put his head down and work and possibly spend a little less time considering himself an AFL footballer. Has a young family but likes the after dark night spots as well where he seems to talk it up. Appears to revel in the spotlight but hasn't done anything yet to justify it.

Fumbles a lot, misses crucial goals. Is getting better but obviously wouldn't get a game in many other teams, if any. Would prefer he just get excited when he kicks a good goal and acknowledge his team mates.

A simple clap or gesture to acknowledge the defenders/mids that set up the goal would suffice.

Maybe if it was the match winning goal he could carry on like a pork chop.
But not a routine goal.

We never saw Bradman doing cartwheels whilst running up the pitch like a madman waving his bat and screaming his head off when he made a century/double/triple.

Terrible comparison, Bradman didn't come from a stolen generation, some still living in the dark ages and no matter how much subject education is provided, still refuse to except/acknowledge.

What next having a crack at Winmar about he's stance?

Absolutely no idea how you have taken my point about over exuberant celebrations for plain vanilla achievements and somehow linked it to indigenous issues like "stolen generation" or Winmar's racism stand!!!!!

I am simply tired of someone kicking a routine goal and celebrating like they have kicked a banana on the run from the boundary line.
I also don't like this trend towards rehearsing goal celebrations.
Save the wild celebrations till the game is won.

Well, Billy Slater, most commenting here and those who are buying out all of his player badges disgree with you. You're entitled to your opinion even if others think you it is misguided. If I'd worked as hard and risen as quickly in my field as Parker has, I might think I was entitled to celebrate.

We are lurching twds the carry on in the USA sports every day. I love seeing guys getting excited after they kick a goal. But spontaneous excitement, not some contrived rehearsed dance. Also as Enrico rightly points out - numerous goals are kicked in a game, some more significant than others.

I just think our 10 game serviceable forward needs to concentrate on his craft rather than trying to get the spotlight on himself. Has nothing to do with his aboriginality which he has every right to be proud of. Oh, and which is sooo confronting for me
