Coach in 2020 Who do you think it should be?
My considered belief is that Richo is gone if we don't play finals. We won't play finals imo. My opinion only of course. So, who will coach the saints next year? Who should it be? Ps no need to slam Richo here.

I’ll pbly get howled down for this but picking experienced assistants in Watters and Richo hasn’t achieved a great deal for us and demonstrated that experience is not the be all and end all.
I want someone with fantastic leadership skills that ppl will follow, is a good communicator, knows what it takes to perform at the elite level and will drive the team to achieve it.
Someone whose whole career is defined by the notion of doing everything you can to overcome your challenges/deficiencies.
I want Lenny Hayes

Sam Mitchell. He got the Eagles midfield purring and they won a flag on the back of it.

Re: Coach in 2020 Who do you think it should be?
Short list: Josh Francou, Brenton Lade, Andrew McQualter. As an aside: who is Richo's immediate boss, is it Lethlean? I imagine he feels he has invested enough of his professional capital on telling the board early that it was the players not the coach, to keep Finnis on side and pay back for the job. He will be smart enough to not try to double down on that con again and he has established a level of credibility to allow him to be honest next time. If he backs Richo again he knows his future as an AFL executive is very limited, I should think. Really we can not do worse under another coach - you either play finals or you don't. The worse we can do is not play finals which is the present reality coupled with knowing we won't under Richo. Its simple really, all the other stuff about be patient, injuries, blah blah..is smoke, mirrors and muddy waters (nice blues guy). I just hope our board does not have a majority of members that believe cult like that there is nothing to learn from history and consistent weaknesses, just stay the course on the same lame horse. In a few years the Saints will be soundly ridiculed for staying with him so long.

Let it be Lenny, if he is looking at moving back to Melbourne! Has done his apprenticeship at GWS and knows how hard AFL is to succeedskeptic wrote: ↑Wed 15 May 2019 6:58pm I’ll pbly get howled down for this but picking experienced assistants in Watters and Richo hasn’t achieved a great deal for us and demonstrated that experience is not the be all and end all.

Re: Coach in 2020 Who do you think it should be?
If Richo goes and a new coach comes in, will they ask that new coach to accept all the assistants as they are, or allow the coach to choose? This makes me think that by choosing Ratten they don't have to either chop him so that the new coach can have a clean slate, or force the new coach to work with some or all of the existing assistants. Does Ratten even want to coach? I can't see us making finals with a new coach and new team of coaches in 2020 but maybe with Ratts there is enough continuity..after we add Harves as assistant!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Who should it be? Who will it be?
Who do we want is a totally different question to who may end up coaching the Saints
Grant Thomas made the call last year on Clarko

And Clarko reckons we've got potential

No one is out there so Alan it is.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

If we can't get Clarko or Bevo or Horse then there are plenty of assistant coaches that are hungry for opportunities that have gained their apprenticeships with these guys;

Re: Coach in 2020 Who do you think it should be?
He had a good group to start with. I mean - Shuey, Gaff and Redden alone .... serviced by NicNat/Vardy/Lycett is pretty much a dream combo. I'm happy to give credit to Mitchell for some of it but I'd like to see how he'd go trying to polish the collective tvrds of Dunstan and Ross - without Steven - before I laud his coaching prowess too loudly.Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Wed 15 May 2019 7:06pm Sam Mitchell.
