Re: Same forward line entries
Appalling +22 inside 50s and beaten by 6 + goals
Watched us have 7 consecutive entries and saw 3 out on the full and 4 bombs to the top of the square for turnovers.
At what point will we lower the eyes, change direction, because everyone in the AFL, at the ground and sitting at home knows where the ball will go top on the square long. Good luck Bruce. Membrey or any other big forward.
Plugger Loewe and Carey with this delivery couldn't kick 6 combined in a game.
Definition of insanity doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
Not good enough but would like to see us try something that may have a chance to work!

Same game plan gang
Same coach
No skills development
Amazed at the hype on us when we beat some lowlights/underdone clubs
Back to earth with a thud till we belt our next up and coming cellar dweller
Nothing changes till we get ruthless
Mid year sacking not unreasonable - we are treading water ffs for years
We probably finish in no mans land this year...
Starting to think it’s ingrained...

Yeah the more thing change the more they stay the same. Terrible structure no system just kick & hope 90% of the time & you can't win games against quality opposition with that strategy.

Re: Same forward line entries
Its becoming a farce.
Either the players dont have any understanding of their roles or the system, or knowing our forwards leading patterns etc or they have been given specific instructions to bomb it in every time as they're can't be any other explanation for the same monotonous continuation of the same rubbish over and over again.
The forward entry plan is just Chaos theory. Just bomb it in and see what happens, but just to make it more interesting, dont have any small forwards front and centre of any if the ensuing packs. You'd think by now our small forwards would know to be a the drop of the ball for a spillage, but they are no where to be seen. Although every other team seems to know our system and where its going to go, as they have defenders lining up, in the same spot , waiting for the same kick, every time.
Musr be great being the opposition defensive coach when coming up against us. Just put a circle 20m out of our goal square and tell the troops. "Stay here and defend this spot and wait for the bomb". Rinse and repeat. Meeting must lasts 2 minutes.
Dumb football. Everyone at the club needs to rake responsability for this. Its killing any chance of us turning the corner.

Exactly. A problem that has been present to too long.
Also seem to get blown away early interstate. No idea why it keeps happening.

Bad habits from some of our players will be harder to correct and the passion and enjoyment of footy is lost
There is a very good reason that Jack Steven wanted out
I think it's obvious after 5+ years that we won't go far with Richo but now the question is; Do we need a fresh rebuild?

Re: Same forward line entries
Pelchen was shown the door too early. He didn't get the chance to finish what he started and look where we are now. Blind Freddy could see that Paddy and Dylan might be iffy this year and so what do they do? Bring in two guys who won't play (seniors this year).Scollop wrote: ↑Sat 04 May 2019 6:39pmThe longer we delay the decision to sack Cho the more damage that will be doneTeflon wrote: ↑Sat 04 May 2019 5:39pm Same game plan gang

Add to this that they presumably knew that Big Jake was likely to have a back operation in November and the situation becomes farcical.
Look, we can still beat the Eagles next week at home, and if we do that's five wins. I would hold off on the gloom and doom until then.

Re: Same forward line entries
Why isn't: D. MacKenzie in the forward line - can mark! B. White in the backline and D. Kent over the white line (no pun). If you have to bomb because you cannot hit a leading target surely get guys that can catch forward. Unfortunately Battle, a good catch, has to pinch hit in defence. But you can't help wondering if JBattle is wasted in defence - you have to score to win, something that Richo hasn't gasped - went to Macy's and missed the benefits of attach case study on his US tour, perhaps.

Re: Same forward line entries
Pelchen never should have been employed in the first place
Watters should have made Lenny captain and the club should have had the balls to go to Rooy and get him to be a leader and take the initiative on a paycut. The players on big momey were more interested in retaining their huge salaries rather than trying to win a premiership for St Kilda
The board needed to say to the chosen bunch that their contracts needed to be adjusted or that the club had no option but to do a rebuild. Watters should have been retained or when he was sacked (due to the powerbrokers and the tail wagging the dog) they should have had the courage to go with the madman in Choco rather than a 'Yes' man in Richo

Re: Same forward line entries
Bit hard to pinpoint targets in the forward line when 14 opposition players have flooded in there
17 players on our injury / illness list - half the team with 10 games average experience between them - against one of the Premiership favourites away from home -
At least we showed some spine to fight back
Yes we lost but there were some decent signs after quarter time

Re: Same forward line entries
But why don't they kick it to the advantage of our forwards then? They either kick it directly to an unopposed defender, or a rainmaker to a marking contest when we only have one tall forward in the entire forward line, or a blind kick and hope. And our midfielders don't kick enough goals themselves ですね。
But I do also agree that our forward line is completely dysfunctional and has been since Roo and Joey retired at the end of 2017.

Re: Same forward line entries
In the first quarter, we played exclusively along the left wing/flank and bombed the ball to 20m out from goal. They got 7 rebound goals from our stupidity. It was embarrassing to watch. We were in control for most of the second and third quarters. in fact, we dominated all but 5 minutes of the third. In the 25 minutes we dominated, we got one goal. In the 5 minutes they dominated, they got 4 goals. Bombing to the square, outrageously bad miss-kicks, and hesitant decision making when we had players in space cost us many goals. We should have kicked 6 in that quarter.
What the game showed, however, that we are capable and more than competitive in general play when we are patient with the ball and are willing to go to players in space. Once we get that manic, rush of blood to the head, drive the ball deep into 50 at all costs attitude, we get burnt. We lost our patience and we lost our heads today. i can't recall us switching play in defense more that 3 times all day. We barely used the corridor at all. In fact, it seemed we had an aversion to it.
If we get back to following our structure and plan from rounds 2 to 5, then we'll be competitive. If we don't regain our composure, our patience, and our structure, we'll be pulverised in the next two weeks.

Re: Same forward line entries
You can’t question the players’ efforts but their execution from just outside the 50 metre arc is incredibly predictable. Rarely see serious leads being made by forwards. And even more scarce are players kicking effectively to a lead. It’s all too stilted.
The supply is there (look at our inside 50s tally today) but not the delivery. We butcher our entries.

Re: Same forward line entries
Who butchers thier entries? Punish them Richo. Name them and shame them in your presser. Drop them to the magoos if they do it consistently. Show some discipline as a coach.
Equally for all forwards who fail to lead toward their team mate or who fail to provide a lead of some sort to open up space for other forwards, they too should be punished. Where are the consequences for the dumb football being played.
Do something Cho. Don't think. Do

He would have kicked 6 with his eyes closed.
He would just love to have the two on one contests and leave the two lying on the ground while he took the mark.
Don't forget that for most of his career, Plugger played in a very mediocre team at St Kilda.
The beauty of Plugger was every time there was a forward entry you would look for Plugger, the opposition knew it was going to Plugger but he was just too powerful.
And kicking for goal he never knew what the yips were.
If he missed it was probably due to the wind (grounds were no where near as protected from the wind as they are today).

Ahhhh what? It’s our absolutely <edited by mods> midfielders who are delivering this last high bomb last kick into F50! Exhibit A - Seb Ross; Exhibit B - J Gresham; Exhibit C - J Newnes.

With injuries, resulting lack of experience we have become very predictable.
Is it the mids who are delivering poorly or forward line who can't catch a ball.
