What about points conceded?

In fact we are kicking almost a goal extra. If we were averaging 2 goals extra, that would signify a huge increase in average scoring.

Last year, average 21.9 scoring shots, and this year down to 21.5.

Our ladder position is a false economy.

We've improved defensively, but we're actually worse offensively.

We're very lucky to not be 1-5 in reality. The only thing that has stopped us from being 2nd bottom, has been a very slight improvement in conversation.

Not sure if my math or my English is out.

Doesn’t improvement mean better, and isn’t 77 more than 73?

Lucky???

We should have beaten GC and Ess by 5 goals and should've beaten Freo.

We've had one poor game, whilst the Premiers have been utterly flogged twice.

We average 4 points more per week, from less scoring shots.

We went Inside 50 last year 51.7 times on average, this year it's only 50.5.

As unbelievable as it sounds considering how pathetic we were last year, we're worse offensively this year.

Only??? Our problem last year wasn't going inside 50, it was scoring once we got there and the opposition sling shotting into attack.

Last year we were 13th for Inside 50s. This year we're 14th.

Going into 50 wasn't a problem last year??

Our inside 50’s have been a problem.

But if we go in less and score more, isn’t that still an improvement.

We are a developing side, we aren’t going from 13 to 1 in a season.

The idea of the game is to score more than your opposition, which we have done 4 times this year. 4 times in 6 games. 4 games in 22 last year. I think we have improved.

We have gone Inside 50 once less on average this year, than last year.

And we average 0.5 less shots at goal.

Worth noting too, that the Suns, Melbourne, Crows and Hawthorn are all currently in the bottom 8 for Goals For.

Given that, of course we would expect that our defensive numbers look better.

I don’t get it. You bring up figures to support your hypothesis but ignore the others that prove it incorrect.

We are scoring more this year per game as well as per inside 50.

We have won more games compared to a year ago.

That we haven’t improved is going to be hard to prove. The evidence is against you.

The idea of the game is to score more than your opposition, which we have done 4 times this year. 4 times in 6 games. 4 games in 22 last year. I think we have improved.
If only it was that simple.

The idea of the game is to win enough games to qualify for Finals, then to win Finals to qualify for the Grand Final, then to win that.

That's why they don't hand out trophies in April.

In my opinion, we're no closer to the ultimate prize. Some areas have improved, but other critical ones are still significantly bad and have shown no signs of improvement.

I'm ignoring numbers that are irrelevant.

We've had less scoring shots, and less Inside 50s than last year.

Only better conversion has resulted in a very marginal improvement of 4 points per game.

Gresham still can't kick. Billings still misses goals. Newness still bombs it long to poor contests. Seb Ross still murders the nut, Lonie still misses sitters, etc. etc.

1 kick wins against weak, out of form and/or undermanned teams has absolutely blurred reality.

We have improved defensively. But not hugely.

But we still stink offensively. Totally stink.

Improved?

Post: # 1787625Post Ape_Man »

So what are these critical ones?

We are scoring more, more efficiently as well as conceding less.

I don’t think we are contenders yet, but I do think we have improved over last year.

Can you please just show me how we haven’t improved?

Edit: just saw your new post. Your cognitive dissonance remains.

What is interesting, is that last year we were 18th for Ave. Clearances with 33.0.

Last.

This year we've improved to 4th at 39.5.

So we've improved Clearances dramatically with Longer out of the side - yet our offence is so foul that we've actually gone backwards in Inside 50s.

Today, with Longer mind bogglingly recalled, we lost clearances by 12 and only had 28!!

Your English.

As stated, the additional 4 points is purely due to a slight improvement in conversion.

More Clearances (ave. 6 more than last year) = first use. Yet Less Inside 50s, & less scoring shots.

Less Inside 50s and less scoring shots clearly shows that our biggest problems have not been resolved.

You’re just cherrypicking statistics to “prove” that we haven’t improved.

At this stage last year we had 6 points, and 71%. Currently 16 points and 105 percent.

I haven’t checked the bounces to tosses won ratio but I reckon we’re doing better than last year.
