Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
Well that is not the bookies. They are just reacting to where the money is being placed.
However hardly surprising given the win loss of both teams so far this year.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
I was going to back the Saints last Saturday morning for this week when I could have got $2.30.....damn.
At least I managed to get $5 when we played Essendon, $3.00 when we played Hawthorn and $3.10 when we played Melbourne.
I think the days of getting generous odds might be gone.
i did back the Saints pre-season at $6.50 to make the 8 and could have got around $10 after playing Gold Coast. We are now around $1.70 for the 8 which will shorten if we win this week.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
I think a lot of folks put money on us, hoping to get a nice payout at good odds,
because they think we are a chance (I already gave my reasons under "Changes vs Crows" thread)
I don't know enough about betting to say, but I thought "favourites" would be something like $1.40,
so $1.90 vs $2.00 is pretty close to even?

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
Speaking of bets ...
My son put $10 on the game last week - some convoluted punt where he had to get 3 or 4 things right (where Billings had to get 25 plus possessions, Ross had to get 25 plus possessions and Steele had to get 20 plus possessions - plus St Kilda had to win by 40 points plus - something like that?) for the bet to pay.
And the last thing that he got right was when Billings kicked the goal at the end of the game that put the Saints 40 points in front (
Anyway, it paid $300. Not too shabby.

That’s quite generous from that bookmaker. $1.85 and $1.95 would be more the norm.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
Did somebody say we are $1.70 to finish in the top 8? That's amazing.
I'm still thinking that we might win 8 or 9 games this year, that would have us around 11th or 12th.
To get into the 8, we'd probably need to win 13 games, that's another 9. The odds of that. I'd say is about $3.50

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
IF we win this week, I would think it’s more likely than not we’ll play finals. Hard to see us missing from 5-1 with the draw we have, unless Ratts goes on holiday and our form falls right offToy Saint wrote: ↑Thu 25 Apr 2019 10:23am Did somebody say we are $1.70 to finish in the top 8? All hail Richo. He has got us being favourites.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
I agree on both counts. I think we'll win 9 games this year with a lot of close losses.Toy Saint wrote: ↑Thu 25 Apr 2019 10:23am Did somebody say we are $1.70 to finish in the top 8? That's amazing.

I also agree that we would need 13 wins to make finals. 12 won't cut it. We won 12 in 2012 and 2016 and it wasn't good enough to sneak in.
But I do honestly believe we will win Saturday against the Crows at home which would take us to 5 wins already, with 16 matches to go.
When we win Saturday I might have to modify my prediction. Until then I will hold my own counsel.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
Hmmm concerning.... money starting to come for the Saints. I’m also worried that Jack Steele was answering questions about finals at the presser this week. Hope there hasn’t been too much drinking of the bath water and patting each other on the back after last weekend. Would love to put the Crows to the sword.... not over 97 yet. GO SAINTS!!

Yep. Richo pops up in every thread somehow. Just keeping the tradition going.

Re: Saints favourites with the bookies
remember who votes in the Brownlow...
more likely someone like Sloane of the Crows or any other ball magnet,
maybe even Cripps from the Bluescum- because which other Bluebagger will steal votes from him?

I won $80 on the saints last week. We were $2.80 going into that game!
This week I've put $10 on the crows for some insurance.
