What's a pass mark at round 7?
Round 7 is just under 1/3rd of the season.
Now personally if you had have told me we would have 3 wins in first 7 i would have taken it.
With Melb(A), Adel(H) and GWS(A) the next 3 games:
4-3 pass
5-2 excellent
6-1 amazing
as i said at start of season i would have taken 3-4

4 wins would be ok but reckon expectations change every week.
For example, if we win this week I would be very disappointed with 4 wins as we would be expected knock off a so far disappointing Adelaide at home. I'd also be expecting us to be a rough chance against GWS the week after.

Don't lose tomorrow by 50 points or more
Be competitive against Adelaide and don't lose against GWS by more than 10 goals
That's a pass for me. We're a long way off the top teams, but a lot better than we were this time last year

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
Exactly. Look what happened to the Lions when some of them perhaps got ahead of themselves
Freo weren't finalists last year. Essendon were playing dreadful footy when we copped them. Hawthorn had their stars missing from the list that made finals last year and GC Suns are ..the GC Suns
As far as the players and coaches are concerned, their pass mark is to train hard, prepare well, and give effort each week. After that, you never know what could happen

To be honest before the season started and with Robbo and Paddy going down, Hanna out injured and Steven having issues, to have been be 3-4 out of 7 would have been exceeding my expectations.older saint wrote: ↑Fri 19 Apr 2019 3:21pm

Moving on to our 'new reality" the Dees this weekend is now a crucial game, and quite possibly season defining, as it marks a commencement of playing teams that are more likely to be in the 8 with the Blues being our easiest opponent coming up. Though the Crows now have the staggers and so are ripe for the taking too.
Win against the Dees and the self-belief could become huge and my pre-season hopes for the years could be far exceeded.
Whereas a loss could see us stagger.

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
I think we should be aiming for 6-1 and having 5-2 as the pass mark.
Last year is looking to be the exception and not the rule. In 2016 & 2017 when we worked hard we won or came close.
We aren't as good as a wce, pies or cats. We can't rock up and expect to win but work hard way we have so far this season and will have a real crack against any body.
Melbourne are gettable... Adelaide are vulnerable. We always match up well with GWS in recent times.

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
We are still at three dollars to beat the Dees and we’re over four to beat the others except the Suns, and Suns were over four to beat us.
So we are basically still not rated as anything above workmanlike and as usual we have no ace cards. Jack S is the closest thing we have to causing a worry in terms of player on player.
I would have thought two wins out of the first five and three out the first nine would have been a good result. Wilkie makes me add one win. The hubris over Parker and Kent has died (tho perhaps Parker might light up the MCG)
The fact that we hav emangaed to eek out three wins against the odds means I have lost any semblance of rational thinking- too excited, so now I say a pass is four and five? Very happy.

As many or many wins than in our entire season 2018 would be ideal; we’ve got some tough ones coming up and will need the wind in our sails.

Can't see how we can't beat the stupid Crows next week, Damn, it would be great to stone them and send their miserable supporters back to their shizenhousen city.

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
My, how the goal posts have shifted!
Wasn't it previously 2 out of the first 5 a pass? Or was that what Richo had to win to save his job?
Keep moving the goal posts and we'll fail by not finishing top 4!
FWIW, I reckon we will beat the Crows. The Giants, which I rated as THE team to beat until Freo humbled them today, must also give us a chance - noted Davis getting around hobbling with a huge ice pack tonight. Injuries may be crueling them again. And the Eagle, after Thursday night's effort, would give our boys further belief in their ability to get the job done.

Freo are 3rd, GC and Essendon both in the top 8 (equal wins with 2nd), despite losing to us. If GC and Essendon beat us they would be on 4 wins too.Freo weren't finalists last year. It's not 2018 anymore.
It's also not round 22 so a lot can happen between now and then.

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
Liking what I'm seeing saynta. We are playing some awesome football but y'know what they say; the season ahead is like a marathon, not a sprint. Remember North last year and what happened to them after round 9?
I saw RoMa plus a few of our other players tiring at times late in quarters. We have a bunch of guys who have played less than a handful of games and we will come up against some teams with a lot more hardened players than ours. We are yet to play Adelaide, GWS, Collingwood, West Coast, Port Adelaide and Geelong.
You never know how far we can go this year and I hope we win the flag...but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I hate arrogannt pricks who support other clubs so I'm not about to start bragging because we've momentarily snagged top spot

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
Well we’re already at a pass now.
We’d be odds on to beat Adelaide atm and break that hoodoo, which brings us to GWS in Canberra. 5/2 is the expectation. 6/1 would be amazing.
4/3 just takes some icing off the cake.

We exceeded the pass mark LAST week!

Re: What's a pass mark at round 7?
Agreed with skeptic - we have already achieved a satisfactory at round 7 stage of the season - some might say even for the round 9 stage of the season, however, I think we now have to try and at least beat Adelaide next week as it is in Melbourne, at our home ground, and as they finished twelfth (12th) last season we must start beating sides in the middle of the ladder if we are to improve.
Win that, and make sure we are at least very competitive against the Giants, Eagles and Magpies, and we can be satisfied, I would've thought.
I think we might be a sneaky chance against the Eagles over here though if we continue to play the way we have been, because, as we all know, the Eagles will no longer (no pun intended) have the ruck advantage over us that they have enjoyed over us in the recent past.
Most likely case scenario 5/2. Possible case scenario 6/1.

I am going to stick with my initial prediction of 9 wins and lots of narrow losses and a more competitive game plan to keep a lid on my own expectations.Scollop wrote: ↑Sun 21 Apr 2019 12:24am Liking what I'm seeing saynta. But with regards to our younger players tiring; remember, we may get some guys back in the back half of the season though to give some of our newer guys a break. Carlisle could come back, Hannebury could come in, as could McCartin, Longer, White, etc.
I think Long, Parker, and Wilkie will only get better as the season goes on though.

I predicted 3 and 3 by round 6 so clearly I'm happy about the start to the season.
The core of talent on the list before 2018 trading was good and at times had even shown it could be very good, enter the new guys.
Blind Freddy could see this list was going somewhere.
