It is obvious that we had a strategy with recruitment end of last year and that strategy fits the gameplan and fits the players that Cho wants in the team each week.

I was watching the footy last night and looking at Dayne Beams and thinking 'what makes him so good' and so valuable as a mid. Beams in 2019 is not considered quick or someone with burst speed, but he is clean. You hit up Beams and he takes it with one touch and his disposal is on the money and he makes good decisions. Mind you, Beams is playing at the MCG at night when it is slippery and played at the Gabba where the humidity is extreme

Kent has shown that he fumbles, takes his eyes off the footy. makes poor decisions at times, his disposal and goal kicking at times have been average. and he plays on a dry deck under the roof at Marvel.

Richo wants him in the team because he is quick. I'm obviously being facetious, and Kent has been involved in plenty of good plays and also worked hard for his new team. I'd give him one more week before making a decision to give a bloke playing with Sandringham a debut.

I’ve always been puzzled with this forums’ attitude to team selection.

The idea that a player can be dropped seems to signify major things to a few ppl... like it means that they are banished and destined for the scrap heap.

I never got it.

Relating this to Kent... his first game was decent, the rest below par. Drop him, let him earn another chance and force his way back as a better player.

Look at the Jack Lonie of it all... in and out of the team as he played well, form waivered, was dropped, forced to earn his way way back... rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. Now he’s clearly top 22.

Yes, you’ve got to hand it to him. He’s a persistent little bugger

Can’t wait for the dud to be banished to the twos to play out the rest of his 3 year deal at Sandy.

Answer me one question.

Do you believe Kent has earned his place in the team through performance?

He’s as soft as butter, doest tackle and barely gets the pill. What does he actually do that warrants retention?
Wow. Don't you just hate when you are a bit...well let's say...premature?

Wasn’t premature at all.

Kent was very ordinary for four rounds and I believe extremely lucky to hold his place in the team.

To his credit he had a really good game today, the fact you refer to this good performance confirms you agree he’s been average over the first four weeks.

His challenge now is to back this game up and play consistent good footy and move from fringe player to good AFL footballer.

Premature evaluation is to suggest he’s made it at the Saints after one good match.

Let’s hope he backs it up next week.

Silly post Twirly.
Kent had a decent game in rd1 and has been underwhelming since then until today. Obviously had something to prove against his old mob and good on the coaches for backing him in. However, JB is correct.

He was lucky to survive the axe and needs to be more consistent to stay in the team. He’s hardly made it on the back of one excellent game.

He’s shown us what he can do... now let him do it with regularity so that he can remove any doubt in the conversation about whether or not he’s top 22... like Lonie has

100% correct skeptic, one good game in 5 and certain posters are prematurely evaluating.

If Kent maintains yesterdays form I’ll be the first to admit my judgement was incorrect, and will be very happy to do so.

He was average week 1 & poor week 2-4 then played a very good game yesterday.

Playing well consistently makes a player, not one match motivated by playing against his old club.

Well summed up by Enrico below!
Enrico_Misso wrote: Sun 21 Apr 2019 2:00am Dean Kent was the highest fantasy points rated StK player with 20 disposals and 5 set shots resulting in THREE goals (and 2 out of bounds) with 2 crucial goals in the 5 goals to nil 3rd qtr that set up the win.

He was pretty ordinary the last 2 weeks and was probably not dropped because of the ex-Melbourne factor.

The cheese-boarders all laughed as he sprayed his first set shot oob early in the first qtr.
But when he nailed a long set shot a few mins later THEY LAUGHED NO MORE!
