Re: Marshall
BigMart was not the only Marshall fan back then.
Came to us as a ruckman who was also playing as a true key forward and chb.
So there were a number on this forum excited by his potential when he joined us.

Re: Marshall
Correct, Marshall is going well @ the moment, however will need help as he is not ready to hold down #1 role for a whole season!!!!!saintsRrising wrote: βTue 09 Apr 2019 11:57am BigMart was not the only Marshall fan back then.

Anyone with any common sense and experience on the matter, knows that it takes genuine rucks 4-6 pre-seasons for ruckman to get there bodies truely up to speed for the #1 role!!!!! (See Grundy, Gawn and Jacobs).
Marshall has started well, however will need to be 'managed' carefully, he is still very raw, particularly with body use and hitout's, thus far he is going ok, however he only played on Lobb on the weekend who is also a ruck novice and lightly framed.
Keep up the good work Rowan!!!!!

Re: Marshall
That's funny - I was only just thinking of bigmart. I remember once having the temerity to comment that gresham had a touch of the dusty martins about him (something every commentator is saying now) and bigmart shutting me down with that endearingly bullying snarl he liked to use. Yes, I am petty enough to have looked it out...Joffa Burns wrote: βMon 08 Apr 2019 10:46pm Big Mart knew his footy!

Similarity, I should have dared reply, is that he's a game-breaker.
Re Marshall though - he's terrific but at the moment his taps aren't to advantage so we're really applauding his work round the ground. When he starts tapping it down Stuv's throat, we'll be on.

Good call on a young Gresh as well.
Never met Big Mart so no idea about him, but read a lot of his posts.
He came across as a guy who knew his footy, pretty happy with himself (maybe for good reason, who knows?) very opinionated, but certainly knew his footy.
I liked reading his reviews from Sandy games, as I only rarely see them on TV and felt he provided reasoned feedback.
He was on the Marshall bandwagon very early.

Re: Marshall
I agree with your opinion re Marshall's ruckwork. He and Longer could be a fantastic combo if Longer gets superfit. Both the right age to develop and get better as our window opens. I personally cannot see a future for Pierce. Hopefully we don't do a Stanley or McEvoy on Marshall and trade him when he can be such a valuable asset to the team.freely wrote: βTue 09 Apr 2019 2:13pmThat's funny - I was only just thinking of bigmart. Also agree that you are petty...to firstly bring it up and secondly to criticise someone who isn't a current forumite and not here to reply. The date of the post basically means that he was probably right in that the comparison was premature. It's similar to people comparing Sam Walsh with Juddy. Does not mean that Gresh cannot have a huge impact and be a star matchwinner but he has a way to go.

Re: Marshall
I agree with the comments re Marshall, he would be difficult to rove to at the moment. Could we sacrifice a small forward, say Kent (not in the best atm) to bring Billy in?freely wrote: βTue 09 Apr 2019 2:13pmThat's funny - I was only just thinking of bigmart.
