Jaryn Geary: Legend
That dude is a mad man.
He cops heat, but he shouldn't. He would legit die on the footy field, and for that alone he deserves credit beyond what many AFL footballers get.
He's often.forced into contests and scenarios that don't suit him, but he still will bleed for it.
Hats off.

Heart as big as Pharlap even though I do cringe every time he kicks the ball but yes gives everything he's got.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2019 7:11pm That dude is a mad man.

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
But that's the thing, with a <edited by mods> coach that allows/facilitates the opposition isolating him as a kicker, he is doomed. And so are we.guitars4 wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2019 7:26pmHeart as big as Pharlap even though I do cringe every time he kicks the ball but yes gives everything he's got.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2019 7:11pm That dude is a mad man.

But that's not on Geary.

He wasn't great today. He was precisely what he has been every single time he has ever worn Saints jumper.

I don’t think anyone ever doubts his heart. It’s his skill errors that hurt us.

That mark running back with the flight one on one deep in defence was superb.

One of his best games. A captain’s game.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
Sometimes he gets beaten in a contest that no-one else would ever get to. If he'd just stand back he'd look much better.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2019 7:11pm That dude is a mad man.

It's Geary's Leg End where most of his deficiencies stem from.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I’m far from JG’s biggest fan. But he showed Heppel today what genuine leadership is. Kudos.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Sat 30 Mar 2019 7:11pm That dude is a mad man.

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
A fine game, within an excellent TEAM performance. KUDOS! If the boys can replicate yesterday's efforts on a consistent basis, then 2019 could look very much better than any of us dared to hope for. I accept of course, that it IS early days.

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
Not the first time that Gears has shown us how fearless and selfless he is when there is a contest to be won.
This article sums up why he is our captain
"The point I want to make is that during the third term, there was another instance where leadership was on display. You had the two captains in a one-on-one duel running inside the Bomber forward 50. Jarryn Geary v Dyson Heppell. The ball coming in was a true chaos ball, floating through the air to the advantage of nobody.
But Geary made that ball his.
With the game tightening up, and the pressure increasing, Geary took a great one-grab contested mark with the Essendon captain as his direct opponent. The unsung St Kilda captain beat the lauded Essendon captain hands down, but where were the gushing praises from Brad Johnson and Paul Roos? Where were the plaudits for the effort of Geary in demonstrating guts, timing and leadership? Where were the endorsements of his captaincy?
Jarryn Geary is the most unheralded captain in the AFL, to the point I reckon that the commentators didn’t even realise how big a moment that was. That was the St Kilda captain standing up when his time came. That was someone who leads by example doing what earns him the respect of his players.
That, my friends, was leadership."

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
From the same mongrelpunt article and all true
"The Saints jumped out of the gates, and by the time the Bombers got going, it was too late.
In a big boil over, the Saints moved to 2-0 and Essendon crashed to the exact start that will have many questioning whether the hype surrounding those formerly from Windy Hill have the guts, and ability to pull themselves out of the hole they’ve dug.
And whilst they may have dug that hole, St Kilda dumped a bulldozer of soil on them as they tried to climb ‘out today. Credit where it’s due - this isnt about Essendon being bad. This is about St Kilda making them look bad!
Alan Richardson wasn’t smiling too much in the box after the game (my missus calls him "sad coach"), and really, the margin should have been a lot larger than it was. The Saints kicked 10.16 but were wasteful in the first quarter when they had nine shots to the Bombers’ two, and had their opponents in complete disarray. They were a six-seven goal better side on the day."

Good skipper and player.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Jaryn Geary: Legend
Loved his game today but was very pissed off when he tried to kick the ball over his head from
the defensive goal square !
Luckily the ball was smothered otherwise no doubt it would have gone to an Essendon forward
with an easy shot at goal.
Similar happens at ball ups (mainly centre bounce), where the ball is kicked over the shoulder
without looking & most times it goes to an opposition player. The better teams shuffle the
ball around (handball), until someone can either straighten up to pass the ball or kick sideways
but always with a target in mind.
