Donald Trump could make it happen. Remember that hotel he built, flagrant of existing height regulations. Are we not men? Are we DEVO?

First part of your stupid comment was that I wouldn't have supported the return of the GP. I did; totally. Still do.sunsaint wrote:how did the Melbourne GP happen Doc ?
But perhaps you can explain any correlation between the Victorian State Government bringing the GP back home, to be run on closed off public streets for a week, and this harebrained scheme to return the Saints to the unavailable JO. The State Government doesn't want that, and has already poured money into Moorabbin. There's no indication the local council wants it, no indication the Saints Board wants it and no indication Dave's money men want it. More importantly, there's no indication the AFL wants it (they too have poured their money into Moorabbin and they alone can allow games to be scheduled at particular grounds).
So the GP has no relationship to this JO acid trip you blokes are on.

And what does that have to do with a JO that is unavailable because someone else owns it, and that no one apart from a few old hippy Sainters on a footy forum want to play AFL on?
You're certainly not convincing me that the acid is not dropping big time.

I told you why I think it CAN'T happen, regardless of whether or not I or anyone else may wish it could.
And once again one of Dave's posse gives no detail of how this can be overcome.

Re: Saints homeward bound!!
Doc, I drive past the JO every second Friday arvo'. Including last Friday arvo'. And I always look out over the ground.
Doc, you've got it wrong. The JO is very clearly available for footy.
But Doc, I'm wondering what has happened to your show-me-a-problem-I'll-show-you-an-opportunity-can-do attitude??? You weren't put off when people scoffed at you for wanting to build the Newtown Institute of Saintology... on the site of an old leper colony.
No, you went ahead, and you build what has long been the greatest institution of its kind in the whole world. (Sure, the only one of its kind, but that's just nit-picking.)
So what happened Doc? I'm starting to worry it may be linked to that severe concussion you suffered back in your med' school days over in England. (You were always ahead of your time. )
That had to hurt!
Anyways Doc, I'll let you get back to 'the' meme... life, death, the universe, the alternative solution to the JO that will solve...
our $10 million debt is growing, whilst enemy clubs clear their $10 million debts. (Including one club, with no supporters, and also no pokie bandits. ) Our beloved club is going backwards.

I don't think public transport options around Moorabbin are good enough, but grounds like Junction Oval could be built to house sub 20k games.
(Dave's edit: JO has shown it can hold crowds over 20K.)

Re: Saints homeward bound!!
All it needs is the vision and will, it can easily be done.
It is a win, win all round. For our Club, the AFL and the area.
Once there's the will the money won't be a problem.
https://goo.gl/images/VssdZS
It would not take enormous money to bring this up to spec.

Re: Saints homeward bound!!
There's hope for the Doc.
In that classic scene from the Young Ones. A decapitated Vyvyan would stumble out of the train, kick himself in the head, then kick is head along the tracks as his head protested forcefully.
He arrived at his destination having reattached his head with some brilliant First Aid and successfully completed his mission.
The Doc will wrestle with his head, before getting it together and will succeed in seeing the vision.

My ideas for JO return have been suggested, the first three are poor.Dr Spaceman wrote: ↑Wed 13 Mar 2019 5:44pmFirst part of your stupid comment was that I wouldn't have supported the return of the GP. I did; totally. Still do.sunsaint wrote:how did the Melbourne GP happen Doc ?

1) China just buys - it already owns a lot - most of the precinct and pays off the politicians and regulatory authorities and Victorian Cricket Officials. Major problem is that we probably would sell the club to China Steel and Coal Pty Ltd. or something like.
2) Merge St Kilda with Melbourne Renegades and instead of buying off the cricket club, actually snuggle up to cricket and play some footy games there.
3) Build a floating replica of the JO and moor it off St Kilda pier and tow around the bay as market conditions dictate (i.e. some games at Seaford)
But the best is the fourth.
4) One boutique game. Sell a Marvel Game to a St Kilda festival and Entertainment Consortium for St Kilda's new 'Winter Festival'. Justification : Melbourne's cosmopolitan inner suburbs have never heard of AFL anymore. AFL is losing and needs re-fertilization of it's old home turf.
Create the St Kilda Winter Festival in mid -July that showcases Melbourne and St Kilda as an internationally famous hub in Melbourne. (with St Kilda Football Club being part of it - why not?)
Arts, Restaurants, Music, (including a rave or rock show ON the JO after the game) , Food etc. etc..
Practical Issues.
Surface - No prob. Same grass is being used as before. Pitches are out of the way. Gate will be small, but St Kilda economy massive benefits that flow back to game. i.e. Pay $100 and watch game and get coupon for dinner, cafe, art show etc. TV events there too. In the end CA make money. It will be a hit.
Cricket Clubs have traditionally treated footy clubs and footy in general like sh&t, generally poo-pooing on any initiative footy has planned or wanted. They don't care about anything except their thing. Like the Bowling Club at Windy Hill or poor old Fitzroy in the 60s. And us being driven to Moorabbin because the cricket power is an elite little aristocracy that has power that goes back a crucial decade or two in the 19th century Melbourne. But people still go to footy games. VCA will never get a full house for domestic cricket there. Sod them. One boutique game is all, it is enough and it is good! St Kilda vs Gold Coast. Round 12. St Kilda Winter Festival feature Game!

Re: Saints homeward bound!!
A question for all the pro junction oval people - no memes, no photoshop, just a question so please don’t answer with repeating kardinia park numbers or quotes from other forumites.
Why would anyone associated or part of the St Kilda FC commit millions and millions of dollars to rebuilding a stadium when the AFL, who control and fixture the games, have said they don’t want and have no need for a 3rd Melbourne ground?
This article is from last year, so it’s pretty clear they would not fixture anything even if this ground existed.

Clubs like WB, North and us, being small but essential parts of the AFL pic, need to work within the bigger frame. It wouldn't be all our initiative, would it?
We have to leaverage our status and our name so that others commit millions and millions.
As for third ground, absolutely it could be on the cards. If AFL survives, and that is a big if, as Melbourne's population grows to 8 million, there will be at least a third game stadium.
St Kilda, Carlton and Fitzroy are about the only Melbourne places outsiders have heard of. St Kilda has a beach. We are St Kilda!
I wouldn't trust the shelf life of those reports by the AFL. Just yesterday I hear of the intention to tear down the Great Southern Stand. I can remember them building it. Nobody said that within a generation, they'd have to tear it down again. Why? Once it became clear that the AFL have cooled on a third ground over the last couple of years, (they say it's the 40 year GF deal, but, there's more) they, the MCC, grew bigger balls than ever.
The budget for the new stand is ten billion dollars! How is that? And footy is still their biggest draw, not Boxing Day. There is plenty of money out there. There is plenty of demand for footy stadiums and there will be a real fear among the Footy Culture - already is - that footy will die in it's own front yard.
I'm happy that they will develop the MCG and Richmond station etc. But of Melbourne is going to grow, St Kilda will be a world icon - a bit sleazy for sure, like Venice Beach in LA maybe, but a sports stadium, built in the decor style that is sympathetic to the spirit of St Kilda's heritage will be a landmark.
St Kilda doesn't have to pay, it just has to SELL the idea.
