McCartin & Roberton
From a yahoo news item:
McCartin suffered the latest in a string of concussions, while Roberton complained of feeling unwell.
Roberton is on the comeback trail after collapsing with a heart irregularity at GMHBA Stadium in last year’s round-four clash with Geelong.
The defender, who plays with an electronic device in his chest to monitor his heart’s activity, was taken from the field for immediate assessment by club doctors.
“Dylan was just a bit wonky at the end of the game,” coach Alan Richardson said.
“He just felt a little bit off right at the end when the siren went so you can imagine, given what he’s been through, the doctors were pretty keen to get him in and analyse him and make sure that he’s ok.
“I’m not sure exactly where that will end up.
“He’s fine, he’s sitting up in there and having a bit of a laugh with his mates, but we’ll just have to wait and see how that goes.”

Re: McCartin & Roberton
Yeah I said in a previous post that the health of the player is way more important than football & I really think both should consider life after football . Roberton has a wife & kids & I'm sure Paddy has plan's to go down the same road . We are only here for a short time in the big scheme of life don't risk it playing a game if you have serious health issues.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
They've got a week off; I expect them to be ready for round 1.
Roberton could have a gut ache for all we know and Paddy looked OK on the bench. Just a precaution and he had done enough.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
I hope the boys will be right. Of course their health is No 1 concern. But I gotta tell you as a Saints fan ... you just feel jinxed. I never expected Roberton to sit out all last year. And I thought we'd finally get to see McCartin put together a few games in a row. And then there's Jake. Oh well, chin up, fingers crossed ... I'll try and be optimistic

Robbo oooked ok when he was smacking Liberatore's head into the turf. He looked a little stunned after the collision with Joyce. I'm hoping he is ok for he and his family's sake. Paddy needs to stop backing into packs. FFS. Hopefully he is fine and just a bit sore. He looks to be in good form.

Update from the Age ...
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/sai ... 51360.html
"But because of the way he felt and because of his history there will be more tests than would normally be the case. He had a stress test on Tuesday to make sure everything was tracking ok and he was going really well. He felt brilliant right up until he came off. He felt a little bit off colour at the end.
"He just didn't feel right - they were his words. And I could imagine given what he has been through if you feel a bit crook you go and tell the doc look I am not feeling the best. But we are confident that we know he is in really good hands and they will do the tests and we will just monitor him from here."

Re: McCartin & Roberton
Some old adages actually have wisdom: don't pick an injured player. If there is anything like professional risk management and player welfare going on at the Saints neither will be considered for some considerable time, if ever. Look at this as objectively as possible: one has a device in his heart (apparently a major organ) and the other has numerous regular concussions (brain is apparently important as well) and shows no sign of changing his style of play. There are about 40 players on the list. Just can't pick these two if serious about: 1) their health and way behind 2) winning games. Certain disappointing circumstances just have to be accepted and managed. Richo's pollyanna prognosis post game is concerning I think, even though I know he is trying to raise everyone's spirits.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

You’re talking about the club that persisted with Mav Weller in 2017 when he was clearly hampered with an ankle injury.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Mon 11 Mar 2019 9:49am Some old adages actually have wisdom: don't pick an injured player. His 10 possessions a game were soooo valuable to us, I doubt we even considered playing someone else

Saints website reporting BOTH spent the night in hospital for monitoring. Paddy did not feel at all well.
Not good news. Fingers and everything crossed for them both.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
Gotta say, I can't see much in Paddy's collision, which is a concern. He winces on impact with Long, so maybe a touch of whiplash, but unless the concussion occurred when his head hit the ground, it appears to be fairly typical impact you'd expect during a game. Long must be nervous going anywhere near him, it's the second time in succession he's accidentally taken Paddy out.

Just like real fishing, really smart technology exists to tell the fisherman where to fish. It's easy money when you know where to throw the bait.

It is not implausible that we could start the real season with our four best players out indefinitely.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
& you haven't included Hannebury in that list either
As far as I'm concerned if you select someone who has never played for us before and come to grips with all the intricate game plans
has never played in a full game this season due to injury so will be under done fitness wise
then that just reeks of desperation

Re: McCartin & Roberton
My belief is that Dylan will retire. If that is the case, I wish him well. It will be the best for himself and his family. A huge loss for the playing group but ultimately the best from a big picture aspect. I hope the club finds a way to retain him, as the club needs good people within its walls.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
At this stage I am not worried about Roberton. He didn't collapse and played the game out. Afterwards he felt wonky. That could be due to multiple reasons, most likely playing a full AFL game in a year or his body not used to it. I will wait to see what the cardiologists say from the data they collected.
Paddy in the other hand does get his head crunched in the tackle. Depends which replay you see. But the concern the was his lack of awareness. He is in a bad position and doesn't leap at all. I don't see him having a position up forward so why not try him up back

Re: McCartin & Roberton
I am in the pro Paddy camp, but after Saturday, I am really concerned for his future, its uncomfortable watching it. Footy is over in the blink of an eye. Hope someone steps in for his own sake.
Robbo at 27 really only has a couple of years left, so should take the advice of an expert on whats in his best interests.
I think we have the depth to cover Paddy and we have M. King on the horizon. Robbo I dont think we can cover as well, will be a big loss, particularly with the new rule re: the restriction on runners, on field leaders or on field coaches are more important.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
It's obvious now that Paddy needs to call it quits. He is regularly concussed by force that wouldn't have any impact on any other player in the competition and 8 concussions at the age of 22 is absurd. It's very likely that he is going to suffer serious consequences from these concussions in the future. He certainly has the footy smarts and skills to make it but his genetic makeup isn't going to allow it. Just like Xavier Clarke - except Paddy's issues are much more serious than a propensity to tear muscle tissue. I suspect the club realised this some time ago which is why they used such a valuable pick on Max King.
Robbo on the other hand I have no idea about. I hope like crazy that this isn't going to be an issue but just like the brain, the heart isn't something you want to take chances with. It's a much rarer issue for professional athletes to encounter than concussion so I really don't know what to make of it.

Re: McCartin & Roberton
IMO the club has a duty of care & it would be very irresponsible if they allowed them to play & a very serious incident was to occur.

I think it more likely that the damage was done when the back of his head hit the ground,

Why is Teddy a protected species on this forum?
I notice a thread he started yesterday saying everything was great and Paddy and Dylan were fine was moved over to the Animal Enclosure and all of the dissenting replies were deleted.
The post made Ted look a fool but it seems the Mods immediately intervened to protect Teddy.
Why???
