I don't get it - is it really 19 - 6 frees?

We had McCartin, Sinclair and Lonie deep....

McCartin leads to the pocket and is ignored (to be fair he went too early), and we go long to Sinclair and Lonie in 2 on 2 aerial contest.

I'm sure Ratten will address that.

Happens all too often. Lonie is partly to blame by calling for it high.

I think someone must have pressed the wrong button on the dogs with that one...

Also, don’t tell me Paddy has knocked himself out again??

Some really good signs, we seem more composed in heavy traffic.
Good decision-making, more than last year.

I've posted about it last year.

He arrives at the fall of the ball too early. Leaves himself under it as a result, which makes it far easier to spoil.

1/2 time 47 v 34
Frees 6 to 21
Parker's a bit overrated. Doesn't do anything.

How that ruck contest infringement where Marshall was dragged away from the contest and neither ruckmen could contest resulted in nothing for Marshall is a massive joke. I think it was just a mistake, but geez, added to the deliberate free against Hyne resulting in a goal, makes the umpiring today look very amateurish.

Always an uphill battle with the umpires. How can our side struggle like this with the rules through 2 generations and over a decade of football?

Many positives.

One thing I like in particular is that all last year the first action of many of our players was to look backwards when getting the ball. Now there is little of that. The emphasis is mainly to move it forward. We have a lot less backwards kicking and even switching as a result.

As this game wore on the Dogs pressure has resulted in us chipping the ball too short too often.

Overall as I stated at the start there are many positives in how our players are playing, the players we have picked up, and structures and how we are playing the game.

Paddy is looking good again. Newnes has had 2 good games in a row after a poor 2018.

Bruce is making his presence felt. Marshall going ok etc etc.

We however clearly still lack midfield class and really need Steven and Hannas.

The team is a vast improvement on what they were this time last season in the pre-season. I left the Dees pre-season game last year very depressed and that is how the season rolled out.

The transition from defence remains a big problem.

Unless we can slingshot it, which the Bulldogs shut down after quarter time, we have no Plan B.

We get all panicky, and if we don't cough it up with short, risky chip kicks - we just kick it down the line.

Which, of course, just gets shutdown.

It's Ok, but nowhere near effective enough to win games regularly. We need to find a method to be dangerous coming out of defence.

First quarter, I agree with the above.

Second quarter, when the Dogs matched us in intensity, we looked eerily similar to last year.

Paddy is Kosy Mach II - clumsy - brave but stupid. Talented but feels the pressure. I fear he’ll be another case of a potential star who never reaches his potential .

I’ve always been behind Paddy, but I’m getting to the point where I think we should cut our losses. He’s too hard to keep on the park, he’s just not built to play AFL football.
