Eagles recruiter Scott Clayton is known to be a big Hickey fan, recruiting him to the Gold Coast and staying on contact with him throughout his 67 games at St Kilda which came on top of 12 games as a youngster with the Suns.
“It is good to have one person in Australia that backs you,” Hickey said today.
The ROAR website gives Minch an emergency spot in the Hawks top 22, Mav doesn’t get a mention other than ‘handy depth player’. But first game against Carlton is probably the nicest way for him to start. Clean slate, no losses and soft team.
I am feeling the excitement now. Happens just before the night series starts (I find the preseason doesn’t whet the appetite as it should)

Good luck to Hickey.
The WA conditions should suit him.
Thanks for the article, it read like he felt a little unloved.
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.

Doesn't even back himself, haha, says it all really that!!!!!
'Cause StoneCold Said So'!!!!! We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!
I wish Mav all the best & hope he can make an impact at Richmond .I think the club made the right decision to move him on as we already have too many similar players on our list & IMO only I thought he really fell away in the last few years not sure if it was injury or the fact the roll the club wanted him to play didn't suit his game style .Looking at the Richmond list I can't see him getting a regular game but he has obviously impressed since he has been there so who know's what can happen if you give it your best shot .
Good luck to all of them...it's been a long time between drinks since Dean Rice, Joel Smith and Brent Guerra though, not sure why we consistently boo hoo over delisted players, especially those that were on their second chance with us. I reckon there's a chance a few might add to their games tally, but can't see any of them adding 100 games. I reckon Meatball will be the pick of the bunch by a mile.
It begs the question as to whether we are picking good recyclables or draftees and whether you build a list around a game plan or vice versa. I think right now we had better focus more on the latter.
Four clearances for Tom Hickey – this is the benefit of having him in the Eagles side. He will take it out of the ruck and make use of it. From memory (I’m not looking this up for a JLT game, damn it) he was third amongst rucks in clearances last season. I know Grundy was first, and I think Stef Martin was second. That’s such a valuable asset to add, as he is giving the Eagles something they didn’t have in Lycett. If Hickey can grab that ball and go long to a forward line where there are no extras back, he will have the Saints rueing what could’ve been had they kept him.

I think Stoney is the only one on here that preferred Longer over Hickey, but you have to take it on face value...over 60-odd games with the Saints he played some good games, also some of the worst games I'd ever seen. Overall didn't seem to consistently gel with our midfield. Who's fault that was is up for discussion, but he was at the end of his time at the Saints and still had trade currency, hence he had to go IMO. No use crying over spilled milk.

Think there's a few who favoured Longer. I certainly do.

Maybe so...he was hardly streets ahead, but his chance is now (well, not RIGHT now, but during the season). I hope he stamps his name on the job this season.

a good tap ruckman will be critical with the new 666. hickey is not that player. Billy is.
+9 Marks, 5 tackles.
Geez. Put a Saint into a different environment...

A few touches. A freakish goal. A number of flexes & look at me moments. No real surprises. Doubt he’s Tigers best 22.
He had more than just a couple of goal assists as well. He was pretty good actually. Tiges are happy.
