Injury update
From AFL.com
St Kilda
Player
Injury
Estimated Return
Logan Austin Shoulder Available
Nathan Brown Suspended Round two
Jack Bytel Back Season
Jake Carlisle Back 4-6 weeks
Dan Hannebery Hamstring 3-4 weeks
Max King Knee 8-12 weeks
Doulton Langlands Hamstring 3-6 weeks
Ben Long Calf 1 week
Daniel McKenzie Heel Test
Updated: Wednesday, February 20
Early prognosis
A sore calf means Long won't play the intraclub on Saturday, but he's back training. Backman McKenzie has a bruised heel but should be right for the scratch match. There's some doubt about Carlisle's availability for round one – he needs everything to go right with his rehab. The Saints want Hannebery to put in a really solid base of work in before he returns to full training as he recovers from a hamstring problem. Rookie Langlands had surgery before Christmas for a hamstring defect and is several weeks away. Meanwhile, Jack Steven will miss the intraclub to attend a family wedding. - Dinny Navaratnam

Re: Injury update
what about Billy Longer - most likely to miss start of season due to a hamstring injury?

Re: Injury update
It amazes me that we draft injured players, whilst the Carlton draftees are almost BOG in a practice match we have Bytel-Back-Season and King-Knee-8-12 weeks. Then we have Hannerbry, known to be injured past 2 years.....

Nothing like feeling amazed
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Injury update
Injury wise, things are pretty ops normal at the Saints. We are going better than most clubs. Robbo and Bruce being fit and returning is a massive boost. They are good players.
Its not important King and Bytel play much or any footy this year. Just get them in the professional club environment and get them ready for 2020. They will both be beauties.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Injury update
Seems our 2018 has looped to 2014. So here we are in 2015 again. Should be on target for finals by 2018 - oops - 2022! One can only hope.

Re: Injury update
Our recruiters continue to recruit players that won’t improve the team in the short term either because of injuries or because they are not playing in the position we need.
I was appalled last year when we gave away our second pick and this year we gave away our second and third pick. Then we scramble to get back into the draft and even downgrade for more picks. You would expect to be recruiting players that make an impact!

How’s our ‘project player’ track record looking?

Re: Injury update
They've had their share of injuries over the pre-season too. I think King will be a great pick up given time.

Re: Injury update
2021 I reckon. This year we'll struggle a bit - 8 or 9 wins. 2020 should be better if Billings and McCartin finally come on. If we can grab a couple of free agents to play in the midfield 2021 should be the year we are back in the finals. Can't see finals action in the next couple of seasons. Can't score or take our chances and can't transition into the forward line with any accuracy or penetration and our mids struggle to hit up targets. Add inaccurate forwards into the mix and I start to wonder how we can actually win 8 matches this year, but I think we have enough winnable ones at home to do it.desertsaint wrote: ↑Fri 22 Feb 2019 1:08pm Seems our 2018 has looped to 2014. Re: Injury update
How is the coach recovering from the punch in the guts he got Stateside. Cunning plans ready to go round 1 or is some tactical "awareness" issue causing restrictions to flexing the cleverous maximus? Hurt feelings can be so inhibiting if not managed by a first class sports medicine team (which fortunately the Saints have*) and an early contract extension.
