Was pretty well known that we had fairly powdery noses.
Not least in 2006, when things started to go awry and players started to revel in the glories their new-found status would bring.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

As distinct from Leaping Lanny Poffo - who had 'barely flowery proses'.

Excellent, just what we need leading into this season. Thanks a lot Thommo and don't think any of us think that you weren't into it too.

In fact Indigineous Australians were prohibited from buying alcohol until the late 60's. ACT had alcohol prohibition between 1910 & 1928 and women were not allowed in mens public bars until the 70's, so it has been in play in Australia.
I recently asked my fitness mad oldest son now 31, if he had ever used drugs. His answer was yeah Cocaine but that's not bad for you its just something you do at parties. I think its a cultural thing and just shows the readiness of these types of drugs to the younger generation.

Was rife when he coached at Old Xavs, after they sacked him the club then went on its greatest run.

If anything our club was the least involved in any drug use. Absolutely, categorically true.

Re: Drug use Rife at the Saints in '06 - Grant Thomas
This is just a reflection of society however being a professional athlete brings additional responsibilities. One of those is that you don't ingest illicit substances. There are many industries that have mandatory drug testing - and hardly any of them would be paying the same average wage that AFL players get. The players simply don't understand that with their profile (in which they get remunerated accordingly) comes a responsibility to be an ambassador for their respective clubs. As we all know too well, that poor behaviour from a player can cost the club a fortune in sponsorship, membership, and however else clubs get money to survive. I'm 30 and the majority of people my age who like to party, take drugs but not many of them would be earning an average wage upwards of 300K plus having access to free education and the myriad of other opportunities that's offered. It's simple - play AFL and don't take drugs or don't play AFL and take drugs until the cows come home.

Wealthy, fit, young men who are well and truly entrenched in ‘jock’ culture, with a lot of spare time on their hands. Those who aren’t at least dabbling in coke/pills would well and truly be in the minority, you’d be naive to think otherwise.

Was it about this time last season Thommo regurgitated the Rod Butterss saga?

Fact eh? News to me. I worked with a lot of indigenous guys in Launceston between 1964 and 1966. We often went to the pub together and drank, surprise surprise, alcohol.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 20 Feb 2019 12:08pmIn fact Indigineous Australians were prohibited from buying alcohol until the late 60's. My only concern was the drinking age then was 21. You could get drafted at 20 but couldn't legally buy a beer.
Anyway Dal Santo has s*** all, over the Thomas article saying it was all news to him.
From the hun,
"“I would be shocked if it was “rife” with that playing group. I’m not calling Grant a liar, because if that’s the story he’s been told he has every right to tell it.
“But I look through some of the guys I grew up with since I was 17 and I’m still really close with a big group of them, to say it was rife with that particular group of players, would shock me.”
Speaking on SEN, Dal Santo said he didn’t witness drug use during his career at the Saints.
“I didn’t see it. Yes, we drank ... but I didn’t see drugs. It wasn’t part of our culture with that particular playing group,” he said."

At the end of the day I really just do not care.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Poor old peanut butter and jam sandwiches hasn't had a headline, been in the news or relevant for too long so its time for a destabilizing comment about the saints.
Here we go - BANG!
If true, partially true or plain fabrication, the relevance of the comments and bringing this up at the start of what is becoming a promising pre-season is unnecessary.
In typical scones, jam and cream fashion GT makes a broad generalization without factual data or specifics.
The reality is that well paid fit athletes probably use coke as opposed to alcohol as it has less of a lingering affect and doesn't harm the skinfolds.
But what does old potato cakes and dim sims get out of making this statement?
Another headline to feel relevant.
The amazing thing is some people on this site still believe he "bleeds red white and black" and actually called for his return at the end of last season.
GT - stop commenting negatively on the saints. The past is past, you got fired, get over it.
Taking pot shots does not do the club any good.

Re: Drug use Rife at the Saints in '06 - Grant Thomas
Should have absolutely no bearing/distraction on this season or the players. The past (10-15 years ago) won't concern them.
No players or coaches were around back then. Pointless for the media to even ask them about it (although they might).
The article is of a very generic nature.
Let's bounce the ball (2019) and get on with it.
Go Saints!!!

Unfortunately it affects the brand. Very media, savvy is Thommo, he knows that anything saints, drugs, party , schoolgirl will be lapped up by the media and he gets his name in the paper at the expense of the club brandViking3 wrote: ↑Wed 20 Feb 2019 2:26pmShould have absolutely no bearing/distraction on this season or the players. I'm sure guys like Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Koschitzke, Hayes, Peckett and Hudghton will be thrilled to be tainted with this sort of rubbish.
Rife drug use would have more likely applied to those off the field at the Saints in 2006.

I still can't fathom why this is considered news. "A group of wealthy men in their twenties enjoyed cocaine thirteen years ago"

People, who gives a sh*t?
I'm sure many AFL players have gambling problems, sex addictions and mental health issues. They're human.
