The future of the forum is being played out between a plucky bunch of tenacious posters, fighting the injustices of a mod and a couple filthy trolls, up to 10 people could be suspended, legal action threatened, the forum rules up for debate and some random dude has promised to punch himself in the head...if you can find a more awesome thread in the history of this website I'd love to see it!kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sat 02 Feb 2019 4:42pm Still one share left and 10 unpaid for, but always happy to sell more. This site is owned by the people. It is crown land. Agrrements are not in place to handover ownership of the content we the posters create. The content we create is legally identical to the content created by a group of people gathered in a town square where democracy is the rule of law. Simon knows that because he toyed with the idea of turning it into a commercial venture a few years back and it was met with severe resistance.degruch wrote: ↑Sat 02 Feb 2019 11:41pmThe future of the forum is being played out between a plucky bunch of tenacious posters, fighting the injustices of a mod and a couple filthy trolls, up to 10 people could be suspended, legal action threatened, the forum rules up for debate and some random dude has promised to punch himself in the head...if you can find a more awesome thread in the history of this website I'd love to see it!kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sat 02 Feb 2019 4:42pm Still one share left and 10 unpaid for, but always happy to sell more. 1. never EVER toyed with making this a commercial venture!!! This was your FALSE accusation. It is not true because you say it is true. I have and had no financial need to commercialise Saintsational. There is ZERO commercial benefit to me from this site, nor is there intended to be. However I have paid THOUSANDS of dollars to have the site fixed, hosted and maintained. I flagged some self funding models originally, BUT that was just to cover costs on an ongoing basis. My input is merely to point out to the people in the town square that if they feel like your iron fist control of their speech is unacceptable to them then they have options. One is to start up another Saintsational website that is owned, managed and funded by the people.
I won't say this will be my last post on the matter, but I am now going to sit in the background and watch with interest where this debate goes from here.
Moreover I'm interested in talking Saints.
I can't wait for round 6.

If anyone deserves to be banned it is this idiot advocating violence!

Re: Rules Clarification
I’m not sure a draconian approach and fluid & flutuating rules and regulations is a sound direction.
Like the rule changes in AFL the umpire is caught in the difficult position of trying to adjudicate. The moderators interpretation of a post will be his/ her perception and reality regardless of the original intent.
A more moderate and less reactionary approach in real life situations will usually allow a natural balance to avert anarchy, but perhaps not on Saintsational.
However, as the moderator has informed he owns the site and will do as he chooses and that is his right and therefore this should be respected.
I do find the moderating of this site interesting. I assume it is due to time and life commitments of the moderator.
I have been suspended twice (don’t agree with the term banned) and have not argued or complained about the suspensions, do the crime & do the time without complaint
One of the suspensions was frivolous, the other deserved, but being realistic some warnings received were perplexing while there would have been 5 or 6 other occasions where I possibly should have received an enforced holiday but didn’t even receive a warning, so swings and roundabouts.
Some people like to post just footy related content and some like a mix of footy and a bit of banter and argy barge. The all have their place IMO and it is when the latter goes too far is when the moderator should intervene and by and large this has most likely been the case.
To remove the banter and by play altogether will be a mistake IMO, it will be interesting to see how the site develops and hopefully it is for the positive.

Re: Rules Clarification
Really, the current rules just need to be enforced in a timely manner. By mid-December this whole saga had already gone on too long and it was well within the existing rules to bin a couple posters by then. Granted it must be hard to keep tabs on this place 24/7, but no-one from admin has ever asked for help, or accepted it when offered.

Re: Rules Clarification
Essentially the forum should be about footy issues, but I agree that the removal of a little bit of "decent" argy bargy will diminish some interest. Controlling what is decent and what is excessive is very difficult and time consuming, and I can fully understand the approach the moderator has taken, especially with the availability of the animal enclosure. Unfortunately some posters have been carrying like pork chops about an issue that was done and dusted months ago, hence the imminent change in rules.

When you asked US if you could take over the site 5 or 6 years ago, I don't think this is what we had in mind when WE agreed to it, it's certainly not how you sold your pitch.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Sun 03 Feb 2019 11:05am 2. the owner and developer of this site has given me the right to do whatever I like with the site.
You and others are more than welcome to start another forum.
You've gone from a promise to improving the site to pure dictatorship disregarding what the people who make up this community are wanting from the site.
Show a bit of humility, instead of threatening to kick everyone off who doesn't agree with you and enforcing draconian rules that no-one ever asked for.
As far as I am concerned, this isn't your forum despite you having the keys at the moment.
Why do you feel it is yours to do whatever you like with Simon? Because we green lighted it 5 years ago?

Re: Rules Clarification
Yes, I don't think it would be much fun, but I have offered in the past. I doubt I will bother again. I'd rather see footy threads than months of smut and infighting and the off-season is prime-time. If there's need for extra hands on deck its then...maybe 'seasonal moderators'? There are still a few good posters on here that don't sucked into the crap, probably what we need.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 03 Feb 2019 1:05pmThat’s not my experience at all.
