Two words...Gubby Allan. Keep an eye on it.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

We wanted a big name and ended up with Max King.

And Max King could be our next Riewoldt. Still think Max is our best and most exciting prospect since Nick before a ball has been bounced.

Re: Saints chasing big names
I doubt even Jesus himself could convince star players to come to an AR coached team that’s languishing down the bottom of the ladder...

Bit harsh there. Max king is a draftee and may suck or may be a gun but give him a chance.to get on the park and see him play.

If that's meant to be funny that's a big fail and if not then I don't know what sort of drugs you're taking!
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

We can chase all we like, but if we have another poor year then no stars will want to come to us. The OP is just pure unadulterated codswallop.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Saints chasing big names
How well did Norf go when they employed Gubby in 2018 to help them land a big fish
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Saints chasing big names
What Is has been posted is what we are expecting.... It’s in their strategy we just didn’t nail the big fish yet but he we have done some heavy ground work...
We didn’t bring Gubby Allen in to the club to play tiddlywinks he has come in to nail a few free agents and I am certain he will deliver one in 2020 when our window will be open..
We need to deliver a 8-12 win season to show enough to a prospect we are heading in the right direction....
It’s plain obvious to me we are probably 2 elite midfielders away from being a strong team you need 2 to be a serious side.

Re: Saints chasing big names
Aren't we already a destination club?
Less than 12 months ago we apparently were, according to Finnis anyway, but its apparently a cardinal sin to have a crack at a St. Kilda official on this forum, so I'll take his word for it.
So, if our CEO says we're a destination club, why do we even need Gubby?

Re: Saints chasing big names
No different than the last 5 years except this time we have Gubby to help sharpen our Pitch.
Biggest factor will still be our on-field performance.
Unless we finish in the 8 , no “big fish” in their prime is going to come to us.
Most likely we will pay significant overs for a risky proposition eg an injury prone potential star, a fading star whose best is behind them , or a troubled youngster who hasn’t reached his full potential.

Re: Saints chasing big names
Gone very early Ted.
I would prefer 2 or 3 "medium fish" rather than one BIG fish, perhaps Kelly aside. As far as I am aware no BIG fish netted in recent times has helped the club to a flag, for example Franklin, Dangerfield, Treloar.
Might be better going down the Prestia, Nankervis & Caddy route rather than one costly big fish. Good to have Gubby, but I hope the "fish" are strategically targeted based on needs rather than chasing a big name.
Anyway, couldn't really care less at the moment.

Re: Saints chasing big names
Kind of agree Takeaway. We have plenty of good footballers and the young blokes will get better over the next 2-3 years....but we need real star power. A grade and AA kind of stuff basically. We have the $'s and ambition to burn in this arena.
I really can't see Simon Lethlean and Gubby Allan taking this area lightly in 2019. Can anyone? Watch this space. IMO, they are a really f****** deadly duo.

Aiden Bonar ?
ST KILDA concedes it didn't know the full extent of prized recruit Dan Hannebery's struggles with his body when it traded for him.
