Saints Channel on YouTube
Happy new year to all SS members.
I got PM'd by the person that made the Tony Lockett video.
Ended up chatting and this person is too understated to want any notoriety.
However they have set up a new YouTube channel with literally hundreds and what will end up being thousands of amazing Saints videos over the last 30 years.
Would be great for people here to subscribe as thanks for what is a remarkable effort and hours upon hours of work.
Show your support for what is an amazing effort and subscribe to their channel, I know I have.
Click on the link below and just hit subscribe, it takes seconds and you will love the content I guarantee you.

Wow! Thanks for the info Jaxons. Looks like a mother-lode of about 150 videos from a
terrific era. Great to see Saints playing with aggression, verve, and erm, skill.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
My favourite channel on YouTube is Ted Talks. Unbelievable and informative channel. We need an Aussie to do a ted talk on the Saints.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
Brilliant - that late eighties era, with the likes of the Doc, Plugger, Winmar, Loewe, Burke and Harvey on board promised so much after the lows of the late seventies/early eighties. Great to see the likes of Wow Jones, Burns, Coghlan and Barker in there.

Thanks very much jaxons. As suggested I subscribed to the channel recently. It has been an unusual and precious privilege to share the vision of the Doc and his players in the sanctuary of the rooms at Moorabbin.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
This is not about the Doc as coach, but as a player...
I can remember chatting to, in the late 1960's or 1970, the grandfather of a school friend at the time.
He was a keen Richmond supporter and spoke about attending finals at the MCG in the late 1920's.
He would have seen Dyer, Titus, Coventry, Bunton, Reynolds, Barassi, Whitten and other champions over a period of 40 plus years.
I asked him about who he felt was the best footballer he had ever seen...His response seemed to be quite measured and succint...Darrel Baldock...
I know the above is only one anecdote and as such has minimal validity. Footy however is about opinions and passion.
I too for what its worth, believe that there has never been a more gifted, brilliant player than the Doc in his prime.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
My Dad would have been 96 this year if he was alive. He saw just about every home game since the late 1940’s until the early 1980’s as he worked as a gate attendant at the Junction Oval and the Moorabbin.
I posed the same question to Dad and he could not split 3 players. They were Darrell Baldock, Ian Stewart and Tony Lockett. All could turn or win a game almost on their own.
I asked him who the toughest player was and he replied....that’s easy - Eric Guy. Most other old timers agrees that Eric Guy was the toughest player to play the game.

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
I saw, Skilton, Coleman, Barassi, Whitten, Murray, Jezza, Baldock, Stewart, Ditterich, Plugger and Harvey play over many years.leighsaintsince66 wrote: ↑Sat 05 Jan 2019 12:09am This is not about the Doc as coach, but as a player...

Baldock was the best followed by Plugger and Stewart.
Barrasi wasn't in the same class.
And yeah, Eric Guy was the toughest and Muir the most scary.
So I agree with happy feet's dad, except I can separate them.

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
Hi saynta & happy feet, Do you guys rate Riewoldt in the same class as Ditterich and Harvey? For what its worth I'd also have Baldock , Plugger and Stewart as 1, 2 and 3 respectively. After that I cannot separate Harvey and Riewoldt.
I used to have Ditterich as the toughest but have changed my mind recently. I can't really recall Eric Guy but I accept that he was most likely our toughest. In what way was Guy tough? Of course I'm aware of his clash with Bobby Skilton...Would Guy get cited or reported much if he played in this era?

Re: Saints Channel on YouTube
All champions, but Big Carl played in a different era, he would get rubbed out so many times if he had played in the Roo & Harvey period. Carl was big, mobile and talented. He was ruthless and feared by other players, he was nicknamed ‘The Shadow’. Any rough stuff dished out to our players was swiftly dealt with.leighsaintsince66 wrote: ↑Wed 09 Jan 2019 12:06am Hi saynta & happy feet, Do you guys rate Riewoldt in the same class as Ditterich and Harvey? Eric Guy was made of hardened steel and was a very fair player, but would crash the packs fearlessly. Came from Carrum and was a Drainer. Toughest to have ever played the game.
I remember reading a book on AFL/VFL - it was one of those short story anecdote types. Neil Roberts nominated Eric Guy as the toughest to have ever played the game and said that Leigh Matthews and Dermott Brerton we cream puffs by comparison.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

Game Roo went down which derailed our season.
Roo was in great form too. Wonder what would have been if this never happened
