95-9% of AFL followers won't gice two s***s about this garbage and can't wait for the season to start.
People are smoking pot if they also think this sort of concept will ever catch on outside Australia (not a chance) or suddenly bring in a new crowd of AFL followers within Australia.

Twenty20 cricket, fast5 netball, Big 3 basketball, arena football, futsal, Rugby 7s, fast4 tennis, better cancel them all as I’m sure Ted doesn’t approve...

It continues to boggle my mind the inability people have to comprehend that others may like something they don’t, especially when that thing is 100% not aimed at them...

The corny names suggest it may actually be aimed at the under 10 age group.

The concept doesn't bother me... But the marketing side of it seems rather amateurish. IMO of course

I like 20/20 cricket & the BBL and love Rugby 7's, it is fast, furious & fantastic.

The AFL haven't finalised a shortened version as yet that will draw the young supporter, perhaps this is it?
Can't say the marvel hype interests me, but I'll watch it before I write it off.

What would have been your comment Ted if this was a St kilda initiative where we were playing a round robin at Moorabbin with 4 sides lead by Geary, Steele, Hanners & Carslile?

I'm not a fan, but as I've never played AFLX, I'm not really qualified to have an opinion.

The jumper designs are marvellous, anyone who says otherwise is a gutless keyboard warrior with no real interest in jumpers.

Sadly, it wouldn't be all that surprising if it actually catches on. I mean, 20-20 cricket has been a success. Wasn't that sh!t-canned initially by cricket fans? You really can't underestimate the average fan of spectator sports.

It’s aimed at people who aren’t going to bother committing 3 hours of their time to watch a game, but might give a 20 minute taster a try.
It’s aimed at people who have a rugby pitch and 12-20 people, not a cricket oval and 40.
It’s aimed at school PE teachers who are looking for a game they can play with a class full of kids and 30 minutes.
It’s something different aimed at trying to attract NEW supporters, not appease those who are already fully paid up.

There’s a difference between using stats to argue whether Longer or Hickey are the better ruck option and claiming something has no merit purely because it doesn’t benefit you personally.

AFLX - just another part of the fairy floss movement in sport around the world.

You can’t blame the AFL for giving it a go, good business, may attract new patrons, and caters for the exploding global lustprinzip trend - instant gratification, fleeting thrills and brief but non lasting satisfaction - but, the AFL hopes, leaving patrons waiting anxiously for the next “sensational” event.

The AFL is going OK, so doesn’t need AFLX to fund its future, unlike real cricket (Tests and 4 day matches), which is very dependent on IPL/BBL etc for its funding. IPL/BBL represents nothing, consists of teams made of from anyone, and leaves nothing. Who won BBL/IPL last year? So non cricket, despite it diluting the skills and endurance required for the real game, is here to stay, and imo Test cricket will unfortunately be gone in a few years, except for Aust v England.

AFL is under no such threat at the moment, so AFLX will just be a publicity gimmick, hopefully forever. Fairy floss - bright and puffy, gets sticky, and disappears. For me the grind of a 22 round season, weekly highlights and skills, the ups and downs, peaking at the pointy end - that is AFL football. But if AFLX brings more interest to the real game, and does not lead to its dilution, then fair enough.
