Played Baker on GAJ
Paul Chapman cut us to ribbons like he always did.
Few months later in September... we didn’t feel the need to put the hard tag on Chappy. Hated that because it was soooo predictable at the time

Re: THAT Match- 10 years on
Watched the game last night, had flashbacks to being there. The noise when we kicked the first goal and then when Gardy kicked the last was the loudest I have ever heard at docklands!
Also, a correction from the OP, James Kelly is definitely retired now, finished up at the end of 2017.

Re: THAT Match- 10 years on
One of the best H&A matches I've ever attended, others that spring to mind.
04 - Troy Schwarze goal to defeat Lions at Docklands.
Maybe 94 - V Carlton at Moorabbin when Plugger kicked 9 on Silvagni and last minute goal wins game
Maybe 90 - MCG V Hawthorn when Brereton KO'd Spud, Plugger kicked about 9 on Langford & Mew combined
I wasn't in Sydney for the famous Plugger comeback Peter (Caved in) Craven game, but that was a beauty.

Joffa- the Carlton match at Moorabbin was way back in 89. Plugger kicked 10.7"( out of 13.18) , as part of his extraordinary 70 goals in the first 9 matches - till rubbed out for snotting McKenna and doing a groin on his return.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Fri 07 Dec 2018 12:03pm One of the best H&A matches I've ever attended, others that spring to mind.

I agree the 09 game v Cats was incredible. My daughter and I were way up the back of level 3, and it really did feel like the roof would lift off when Gardy took the goalsquare mark.
There were some special games at Moorabbin in the 60s and 70s ( a smashing of the Pies in 70 or 71 with John McIntosh and Allan Davis dominating comes to mind ) , but for 4 quarters of pulsating footy that 09 game stands out .

I remember our two clubs mirrored a youth rebuild and were often compared, with the saints being the more favoured
but I will always remember an interview with Bomber Thompson who obviously was sick of the bridesmaid tag - smirked out of the side of his face and said we think we've got a pretty good bunch of kids too
We have had some great tussles with the cats over the journey
One of the best was the 91 Elimination out at Waverley Park
Brownless Vs Lockett
Harvey running amok
and Winmar and McAdam burning up the park

Lockett finished with 9.7. Winmar and Gotch kicked three each. Brereton kicked 6 and Dunstall kicked 4. N Burke 29 possessions, Kourkoumelis 26.
Sadly, I was only able to listen to it on the radio.
We have had a few good games at Subi, with Harvey's 350th the standout for mine.

Re: THAT Match- 10 years on
Three of my favorite games.
The lockett /Caven game in s*** city.
The Geelong game where King kicked the winning goal and the Saints v Filth game at the MCG before 90 odd thousand where we won by a point.
That game is best remembered for a less than ideal moment when Sheldon grabbed Craig Devonport by the jumper from over the fence.
Luckly for me I was at all three matches.

Re: THAT Match- 10 years on
Now this one's going back a long, long way but I wonder if anyone remembers the Saints vs Hawthorn game in R5, 1976 where little Saint Paul Callery, the smallest player in the league, was knocked out and very close to dying apparently. We were down by 5 goals at half time, which was like 10 goals in those days, and we were so inspired to do it for the little guy that we kicked 14 goals to 4 in the second half and won the game easily.
Funny thing is that the injury was caused by friendly fire

Decent game overall.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Watched that game at the Royal Derby in Fitzroy....an absolute belter.
Always remember Gardiners mark in the last 2 mins which KO'd the Harry Taylor.
The Royal Derby went absolutely nuts.

Val Perovic on a wing - Rex Hunt at full forward. And a very disciplined Robbie Muir. Terrific memory - and I recall it was Gary Colling that collected little Paul Callery - that sparked the comeback.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

I recall that game very vividly.
Mick Malthouse came on as 19th man, whilst Callery was still on the field ( on a stretcher ). Don Scott started complaining to the umpires- I am certain he was arguing we had 19 players ( albeit only 18 of them conscious ) and should have our score wiped. We still would have caught them, such was the nature of the comeback !
We never used to win out there, and we were absolutely freaking out as the Saints steamrolled the Hawks. Extraordinary game.

Trevor Barker at full back on someone twice his size - a very animated Yabby Jeans.jaxons wrote: ↑Sat 08 Dec 2018 1:50pmYou can watch the last qtr here:silverhalo wrote: ↑Fri 07 Dec 2018 10:04pm Now this one's going back a long, long way but I wonder if anyone remembers the Saints vs Hawthorn game in R5, 1976 where little Saint Paul Callery, the smallest player in the league, was knocked out and very close to dying apparently. We were down by 5 goals at half time, which was like 10 goals in those days, and we were so inspired to do it for the little guy that we kicked 14 goals to 4 in the second half and won the game easily.
Funny thing is that the injury was caused by friendly fire

Val Perovic on a wing - Rex Hunt at full forward. And a very disciplined Robbie Muir. Terrific memory - and I recall it was Gary Colling that collected little Paul Callery - that sparked the comeback.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
