Like I said back in 2014, I would not risk pick 1 on a diabetic. If I was using pick 40 and above then it's a different story. I would probably risk it.
Now it's 2018 and I am saying I would not risk pick 4 on someone that has already had a knee reconstruction. If we could get him with a pick in the 30's I would risk it but not pick 4.

If we take Max King at 4 it is dollars to donuts that Gold Coast will take Ben King at 6 as a replacement for May.
That plays in to our hands.
In a few years time Ben gets jack of Gold Coast and wants to come home.
Guess which club Ben nominates.

We end up with top class book ends.
We don't need the third choice of this year's midfielders.
We can have first choice of the midfielders next year.

Well, Paddy has provided no forward presence at all, and seems to get injured quite a bit- in effect we have been down a big forward for a couple of seasons. So yes we need classy midfielders, but also a big forward.

We need 22 quality players.
Unfortunately the AFL is unlikely to give us the first 22 picks in a draft in the near future.

It would be great for McCartin if the Saints recruited King. He would need to extract the digit. It also gives the Saints the opportunity to trade him to the Cats for a midfielder next year.

Who else do we have to give Geelong to take him off our hands.

What is really faarked is that we don't know what the CEO and footy boss are thinking.

Are we in full rebuild mode or are we still trying to delude ourselves that with the addition of 2-3 new players we are going to catapult ourselves into finals?

If we bite the bullet and do a full rebuild, then best option imo is Max King if he's available.

Whether they like it or not we are in for a total rebuild.
Our window is broken, we a need a new frame before we can put some glass in it.
Someone has built a brick wall in front of our window, not naming any fish in particular but definitely a fresh water one.
We have to demolish that first.
A long way from opening the window.
I can't guarantee that I will live too many more decades so get it right this time.

I've watched all the highlights videos. (What else can one do as a proper armchair expert?)

I've also read all the praises heaped on King.

Now can someone please point me to footage, any footage, that backs these claims up?

I've seen a bloke much taller than his opponents, yet what I have not seen is...
- contested marks
- good kicking for goal
- long kicking
- busting tackles
- dodging blokes
- running bounces...

Apart from question marks about being able to bulk up much given his build, what I want to know is...
if King isn't doing the above against much smaller kids, what makes people think he'll suddenly (hell, eventually would be good enough for me) be able to do these things against seasoned adult AFL bodies????

Seriously Saintsationalists! Look at the strike rate of super tall highly touted junior age footballers. Not pretty reading.

Also, look at Luksious. Try to picture his translation to senior AFL. I can't see a once-in-a-life-time-player there. More like Jack Watts Mk 2. (Minus the soft, lazy FIGJAM 'qualities' though.) And Lukocius may well run around like Roo, but, Roo also took contested marks. I don't recall Lukocious taking a single contested mark(?) Or doing any of the other stuff that King doesn't do... against kids.

We have forwards. Bruce, Marshall, Members', Battle, and Snowy pinch hitting. (Yes, I left you-know-whom out. Should he prove me wrong and come good, that's a bonus. A bonus that could push us to a flag.) And we have the goal sneaks. Gresh, Long, and Billings, Sinclair, Jack S pinch hitting.

What we don't have is the mid field talent to get that football to our forwards... often and enough, and reasonably accurately enough.

And I don't get the lack of love for Smith(?) Inside, outside, good field and on-goal kick, decent pace, and, as determined as anyone. Smith and/or Rankine are the ones we want!



IMHO, we really need to do two things here.
- Look at what the player has that would allow him to (very) successfully transition to playing against men.
- Look at the draft history re touted gun forwards taken high in the draft - especially really tall ones.

Anyway, I'm happy to watch some footage that may allay my concerns.

Well we couldn't get him in the 30s or we would, lets face it if we didn't take him at 4 he was gone at 5.

His knee will be fine by round 1 next year. Yes there is a higher chance of a recurrent knee injury's in the general population however the rate is much less in athletes as they tend to properly rehab the injury.
