Truth is, its hard to tell what career any of these guys will have had in 5 years time. Whoever we pick with our top pick, lets just hope they turn out like a Goddard or Riewoldt down the track. Fingers crossed.

1. Walsh to Carlton
2. Luko to GC
3. Max King to GC
Pause for 5 agonizing minutes as Port haggle with us over picks 10 and 15....
Then,
4. Rankine to PA
5. Ben King to GC
6. Blakely to Swans
7. Smith to Saints
8. Caldwell to Dogs
9. Rozee to Adelaide
And depending on how desperate Port were either pick 10
Or pick 15 ( more likely) to us.
Reckon GC will take a whole elite spine this draft.
We get Smith or Caldwell, I reckon the Rozee interest is a bit of smoke and mirrors to keep the SA clubs guessing.
Choice of Smith, Rozee, Caldwell or Ben King at 5

Fair enough. Your scenario would be a great result, plus a pick at 15.fugazi wrote: ↑Thu 15 Nov 2018 3:36pmYou're right takeaway...might mistake.takeaway wrote: ↑Thu 15 Nov 2018 1:59pmNot sure what I am missing here - if we trade with port, ie 4 for 5 & 15 (try for 10), wouldn't we have pick 5? Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
If we have the chance to get either Lukosius or Rankine we must get one of them. Silly to think otherwise. Lukosius will run defenders off their feet in a couple of years and has great vision of the game, he will feed the ball into the 50 and hit targets when he isn't in there taking marks. Rankin screams x factor. His goal sense is uncanny, watch his highlights and the snaps he does without really looking.

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
Pick 1 Walsh
Pick 2 Lukosious
Pick 3 Max King
Pause: Offers flood in from Port, GC, Adelaide (certainly a seller's market). Adelaide drop out, unable to get the necessary finance. Port bid 5 & 15, GC 6, 24 & 29.
5 minutes are up & St Kilda take Port's offer.
Pick 4 Rankine
Pick 5 Smith
Pick 6 Ben King
St Kilda take Zak Butters with pick 15

And then the cherry would be Jack Bytel sliding down to our next pick, and we have our midfield sorted for the next decade.

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
I think Joe Daniher is pretty much a spot on player comparison. Athletic, tall, good at ground level but is a beanpole and a dodgy kick for goal. If all goes well with injuries he's probably a 40-50 goal (and as many behinds) per year full forward.skeptic wrote: ↑Thu 15 Nov 2018 12:23pmBest case scenario is he’s more Nick Riewoldt then Adam Goodesprwilkinson wrote: ↑Thu 15 Nov 2018 12:22pm Does King have a natural tank? Yeah 5 and 10 would be acceptable

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
If we are going to be singing the club song more often in 2019 you would have to seriously consider Benny King.
And he has already put Fortius Quo Fedelius to music:
So darling, darling
Stand by me, oh stand by me
Oh stand, stand by me
Stand by me

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
If the best genuine mids are gone, I'd rather we go for King (if still available) than try to convert a "likely type" into one - as it's too hit and miss.
We already have Clark and Coffield who fall into this category of "potential midfield convertees", anyway.
Max King sounds like a great prospect - I'm coming around to that view.

There are 6 excellent players and we will get one of them unless we trade with the f****** crows.
Izak Rankine, Sam Walsh, Bailey Smith, Jack Lukosius, Max King and Connor Rozee
And then of course, there is Max's brother, Ben.
But hey, more than enough quality midfielders there.

Latest rumour we are trading with Sun's. We get pick 6 & a later pick. That way they get all 3 crow eaters. I say screw that and use it on draft night

I guess it depends on who we want at 4 and if we think they'll be there at 6.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Fri 16 Nov 2018 3:05pm Latest rumour we are trading with Sun's. We get pick 6 & a later pick. That way they get all 3 crow eaters. I say screw that and use it on draft night
If we get the same player at 6 (Rozee or King), then 6, 24 & 29 for 4, 36 & 46 could be a good deal.
I wouldn't do any deal until draft night though, if a Walsh, Rankine or Luko slipped through we should take them.

If this is on the cards, that is still a great trade. We get a top 10 pick and a second round 2 selection. Apparently we are hot for Bailey Smith who looks the goods and will probably still be there at 6.
I don't buy the need for yet another tall forward as in Ben King unless they are wanting to turn McCartin into a permanent defender. We are desperate for young, top class midfield talent.
But.... if we don't do the swap and take Ben King at 4 I would not be unhappy even though he might be surplus to our needs for another tall.
This kid is a great mark and very quick at ground level for someone his size.
Either way I think we are going to do well in what is shaping as a very strong draft.

So Walsh goes at 1
Then GC takes Rankine, Luk and Roz at 2, 3 and 4
Then Port get a choice of Max King, Bailey Smith (or someone else), with us likely to swoop on who they miss and another pick in the next round.
If that’s correct then we absolutely should do that deal

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
That would depend on who is left at pick 4, if Rankine or Lukosius are still there Port might be tempted to give us 5 & 10 (probably not) or 5 & 15 (maybe) all depends on how much they are willing to give up to get their man. IMO it's a lot better deal than 6 & 29 but as I said it will all depend on who is still there at 4. If we can't get a good deal let's stay with pick 4DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Fri 16 Nov 2018 3:05pm Latest rumour we are trading with Sun's. We get pick 6 & a later pick. That way they get all 3 crow eaters. Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
It's fun to speculate but I would still take pick 4 to the draft and use it.we are guaranteed either Rankine Lukosius or kIng. End of argument for me.
Smith and rozee are next tier based on my research although it's limited.
Smith is an inside mid with good speed but not an outside mid. Rozee came good at the end but he is pretty slight for a afl player. Not saying they won't be good just saying on paper the other 3 are better.
Rankin is that good he changed teams during one game where one team was getting hammered and almost won it.
Lukosius likened to roo. Find a better compliment than that.
KIng. My least favourite as he is a huge unknown and another forward and kicks wayward in the one and only highlight package I saw. But huge wraps on him and it will take a year for him to get body ready for all so that means Richo will be gone when he is ready which I like

Re: Final Thoughts ahead of the Draft
Take Pick 4 to the draft and try to select our next Cazaly, Mohr, Baldock, Ditterich, Barker, Lockett, Winmar or Riewoldt.
Despite having a lot of high picks this past six years, apart from Gresham and quite possibly Long (yes, I really rate him that high), we haven't grabbed that real elite A+ drawcard crowd pleaser.
Rankine for mine.

Except that Rozee is a third generation St Kilda Supporter. So that would have to combat the go-home factor somewhat.
