If Adelaide offer us picks 8 &15 for pick 4

I wouldn't want us to downgrade our picks that far. I didn't really understand the previous downgrading of picks we made in this draft, when we swapped an early 20's pick for a late 20's and mid 30's pick.

Assuming pundits are correct and order is;
1. Walsh - Carlton
2. Lukosius - GC
3. Rankine - GC
4. Roozee - ???

There are really only two deals of interest to us.
GC - want the 3 SA lads to limit go home factor.
PA - want #4 to get the SA lad assuming GC take the other two.

PA - potentially #5 & #15 for #4 and #36 if we are lucky.
Could get King or Smith depending who they want @ #5 & maybe Caldwell @ #15 if they like him.
This would be a stretch but PA may go for it if they think we will trade with GC to allow GC to get the SA boy.

GC - #6 + #24 + #29 for Saints #4 + #36 + #46
would still land either King or Smith (if they are our target) and upgrade later picks quite significantly.

I know nothing about it as I haven't seen the kids play.
But we need mids and I like what I have read about Smith and Caldwell and seen in highlights.
A deal with PA and these two @ #6 & #15 seems a dream outcome.

I don't think rozee is anywhere nears as valuable as Rankine or lukosius which means if Walsh Rankine and Lukosius are gone I doubt we will be involved in a pick swap. Most pundits have king being selected at four which I believe will occur though I don't think we should as we need mids

I heard on SEN this morning that it's being reported that we may not take the 'best player' at #4 (King) but will take the 'best player to suit our needs'.
Some discussion then took place as to the 'value' of this decision.

IMHO it is nothing more than St Kilda signalling to PA and Crows that we will take a 'mid' at #4 to put pressure on them to think about trying to do a deal.

No compo for delisting players, he is contracted for 2020 so it would have to be a pretty poor year for him to get delisted earlier.

Logic says that - yes. However, would you rather have C Salem and D Tyson (now gone) in your team or Josh Kelly? Because your suggestion is near-on precisely what Melbourne did ...

The flaw with this approach is that your gain is only 1 more pick.

That’s quite literally it.

If we can’t guarantee a gun with pick 4 when there are 6 standout prospects... how are we more likely to get one with pick 15.

To me it’s simply not enough of an advantage to downgrade. If u turned it into 3-4 players in the top 25 that’s one thing but we’re more likely to draft another Hugh Goddard or DMac standard player

It’s a weird argument to me where pick 4 is too risky but pick 8 & 15 means we’ll pbly get two guns
