Saints off to Townsville round 13
From fox footy news
ST KILDA has agreed to take on a gruelling mid-season travel schedule in 2019 after it was revealed the club would take part in the first ever AFL match for premiership points in Townsville.
Both the Saint and Gold Coast Suns confirmed on Tuesday night that they’d play each other at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium in Round 13 next season.
It will be the second clash between the two sides in 2019, with St Kilda to host Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium in Round 1.

Riverway?
Surely the stadium is named after some crass commercial interest?

5002 now. And don't forget to visit Magnetic Island. And the Cowboys Leagues Club, say hi to JT, and the Strand and Palmer Street - make the Australian Hotel the fan hub? Nice golf courses as well. Would be a lovely weekend away from the cold of Melbourne, weather will be ideal. Riverway refers to the famous Ross River (of fever fame), home of the Thuringowa Bulldogs. Great Northern Crisp! - what more do the fans want, besides a win.

They might get a reasonable crowd. I think the suns are pretty excited about it. Looking at their list though, they may have to recruit JT, Big Mal Meninga and a few others to get the 4 points.

fly to china.bye.fly to townsville.wait for the round 14 game - we'll be cannon fodder so expect to get a team they want to schedule a likely win for.
there's three losses right there.

Getting the players to turn up is the biggest problem we've got!

Its actually a blessing playing in Townsville.
Good bonding expierence, something different for the club in the middle of the fixture and winter, and the Suns don't play there either. It will be a neutral venue for an interstate away game.

No. The main objective is to win footy and back Alan and the players in for 2019.

Townsville? The place of my birth.
The Strand aside, what a hole it is!!! (Magnetic Island aside too, as I guess that technically that's part of Townsville.)
I was back there two Julys ago for a nephew's wedding. Palmer Street??? Saturday night??? Could have walked out of the reception with a Donald Turnip standard issue semi-automatic and let rip... no chance of hitting anyone.
When do we get to play a game in Byron Bay?
And in the Alice? Our beloved desertsaint has waited far too long!

i am thinking of it. its either hobart or Townsville. I was leaning towards the tassie game, but might do this instead.

Re: Saints off to Townsville round 13
I've written a formal letter of complaint to Bob Manning the Mayor of Cairns to register my disgust at his ineptitude and powerlessness to stop Townsville exerting thier soft power in the region as the new dominant AFL force. Supporters south of the Yarra may not understand the geopolitics of the region which is underscored by perpetual stunts from Townsville insurgents to wrestle the region's prized title of "Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef". The club has raised tensions in the region with this unexpected announcemt and may need to rethink it's position if the situation escalates uncontrollably.Dave McNamara wrote: ↑Thu 01 Nov 2018 10:56pm Townsville? Re: Saints off to Townsville round 13
When do we get to play a game in Brisbane?
Next year is fourth year in row we won’t play at Gabba, and in two of those years no Gold Coast game as well. Saints have a lot of supporters in SEQ but we’re getting shafted...
And apart from the selfish reasons of me wanting to see the Saints without airfares for once the Lions have been s*** most of the years we haven’t played here, but by 2020 (or whenever our next Brisbane game is) it will probably be a hard task again...
The future's so bright I've got to wear shades...

Re: Saints off to Townsville round 13
Hardly a blessing Ted you & I both know the only reason we are doing this is because we have no other real option. If we had finished close to 8 we would not be playing in Townsville but I'm a realist & I know we have to do the hard yards to get ourselves back to financial & competitive position to remain viable & if that's what we have to do then let's do it.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Thu 01 Nov 2018 1:57pm Its actually a blessing playing in Townsville.

Re: Saints off to Townsville round 13
Its a Gold Coast home game so what choice does the club have?
Saints are playing an interstate game at a neutral venue which neither side has played at before. Its better than playing Gold Coast at their home. Lets be serious, its therefore a blessing.
