Let the Pick 4 Auction Begin

Post: # 1763133Post ace »

Adelaide has picks 8, 13, 16 and 21 (1551, 1212 & 1067 & 878 points)
Port has picks 5 & 10 and 15 (1878, 1395 & 1112 points)
St Kilda has picks 4, 36 and 46 (2034, 502 & 331 points)

Adelaide may well offer us picks 8 and 13 FOR pick 4 and one of 36 or 46
Moving ahead of Port pick 5 would be very tempting for Adelalde.
First bite at the South Australia talent.

Meanwhile Port may well offer picks 10 and 15 just to prevent this happening.

From 2019 St Kilda still holds 1st round but it can NOT be traded
But can trade 2019 3rd round of St Kilda and 2019 4th round of West Coast
Adelaide can NOT trade their 2019 1st round, but can trade their 2nd round plus Carlton's 5th round
Port can NOT trade their 2019 1st round, but can trade their 2nd round and 4th round plus Hawthorns 3rd round and Adelaide's 4th round

Now I would like our guys to use pick 4 on genuine cream talent but we had picks 1 and 3 in previous drafts and got only sour milk.
Maybe with two first rounders they will do better.

LET THE AUCTION FOR PICK 4 BEGIN.
You know you want to give us picks 13 ,16 and 21 and your 2019 second rounder Adelaide.
You know you want to give us picks 10, 15 and your 2019 second rounder Port.

Why can’t the 2019 first rounders be traded. Is this the hard and fast rule that you can’t trade your first round pick two years in a row? That one they keep making exceptions for.

I don’t think either of these clubs is particularly good an instigating a Hawthorn like Godfather deal. Both are too worried about the backlash from the supporters and Adelaide media.
Yes I do expect Adelaide will probably make some lukewarm offers like Adelaides 13 and 2019 2nd rounder for our pick 4 which would be well unders. Hopefully we are not dumb enough to accept an offer of unders - Port in particular have a good track record of reaming us.
Hope I’m wrong and Adelaide put their nuts on the line and offer 8 and 13. I would probably take that deal.

I wouldn't entertain any trade of picks for pick 4 that doesn't include a top 8 pick.

Would consider say Crows 8,13,21 for 4 and 36 (No to 8 & 13 for 4)
Port 5 & 15 for 4. Don't think Port will move up any further though.

Unless we get a GREAT deal, keep pick 4.

Yep.
Deal needs to be tip top or just take Rankine if he is still there.

Give the bloke the biggest hummer a football club has ever given and keep adding years.

Chances are he will make Shiel look like a cabbage.

With Adelaide;
Out -> 4 + 46 = 2365
In -> 8 + 21 = 2429

With Port;
Out -> 4 + 46 = 2365
In -> 10 + 15 = 2507

First bite at the SA talent?

Pick 4 is not worth much extra to either SA Club if the Suns take both of the best 2 Adelaide Boys with picks 2 and 3. And talent and needs wise that is exactly who they should take.

So I would not get your hopes up to high of doing a great pick swap for pick 4.

Keeping pick 4 may be our only hope of adding an elite player to our list anytime soon.

So it all comes down to live trading after suns take their pick 3.

If Port or Adelaide already know that GC have picked Lukosius and Rankine, then our pick 4 is worthless to them.
Don't we have to sell it to one of them when they don't know? Like straight after Carlton picks Walsh, or after GC picks the first of the SA boys?
Not sure how it actually works -- does anyone know better?

Many rate Rozee around the same level as Lukosius and Rankine so pick 4 means access to one of the top 3 SA prospects. I think Port wouldn't mind it if we hold onto the pick because we're likely to take a Victorian kid, but Adelaide have every reason to go after it. The perfect scenario for us is that those two teams start a bidding war for pick 4. We should entertain offers from Adelaide and tell Port that we will be trading pick 4 to them unless Port comes up with a better offer.

To part with pick 4 a non-negotiable condition is getting a top 8 pick in return. The trades I would be happy with are

Pick 4, Pick 36, Pick 67 for Pick 5, Pick 15, Pick 85 from Port.
Saints have 5, 15, 46, 79, 85
Port have 4, 10, 36, 67

Pick 4, Pick 36, Pick 46, Pick 79 for Pick 8, Pick 13, Pick 21, Pick 73 from Adelaide.
Saints have 8, 13, 21, 73, 85
Crows have 4, 16, 36, 46, 79

Friday, 16 November 2pm: NAB AFL Trade Period closes (for exchange of selections only).
Then, I believe, you can also exchange picks in a 5 minute window when it's your turn to choose on draft night.

Yep, would hate to go out of the top 8, and IMO a big premium should be paid if we trade 4. Rankine, Smith or M King, any of the available top 7, stand out and would be hard to pass up.

Happy to go used car shopping with you Pav - I'll be strong at the contest.

Tell Port we're going to pick whichever SA player is left.

Ideally swap 4 for 5 and 10.

But I'd also accept 5 and 15.

here's a crazy scenario

Suns pick the King brothers

Port desperately want pick 4 for Lukosius. They give us 5 & 10 for 4 & 36

Now, Rankine is still there. Adelaide give us 8 & 13 for 5 & 46

They get what they want. We end up with 8,10, & 13

Would be interesting.

Neither . Any trade must include a pick in the top 10, be that 5 or 8 and another inside 20 , be that 5 and 15 and we give away 36 or 8 and 13. Points irrelevant in this circumstance as no academy players or FS for these guys. Will purely come down to supply and demand, we have something they want they have to pay overs.
That said if they are willing to pay way overs should we be trading that player away as we have zero silk players ( Gresham close) and a chance to get one??

Pick 4, Pick 36, Pick 67 for Pick 5, Pick 15, Pick 85 from Port.
Saints have 5, 15, 46, 79, 85
Port have 4, 10, 36, 67

Pick 4, Pick 36, Pick 46, Pick 79 for Pick 8, Pick 13, Pick 21, Pick 73 from Adelaide.
Saints have 8, 13, 21, 73, 85
Crows have 4, 16, 36, 46, 79

If "many" is meant to be the majority then no. Or at least from what I have read.

The consensus of what I have read is that the first 2 are clearly above Rozee, and if so this would be reflected in any trade offers.

I agree we need a bidding war, but I only see that likely if one of the big 2 is available. Rozee will attract something I believe, but my guess is it would be less generous.

Pick 8? That is just outside of the cream. Just as our picks last year were just outside of the cream. We need a player from the cream category.

So I would want to trade with PA and not the Crows.
