This draft period was doomed as Richo was not sacked.
It would have been hard work regardless but trying to attract guns with a lame duck coach not valued by many of his current charges was madness.

If Lethlean realises that this trade period was nigh on impossible to attract anyone to the club, maybe... just MAYBE.... he'll realise just how shambolic the coach and the decision to re-sign him were.

So why was Hannerbrey happy to come when Alan is in charge? A 3 x AA and bloke that has had more success than any player on our list.
Kent also?
Why has no one left that we wanted since Alan has been in charge?

Hannebery was happy to come for a final payday that he wouldnt have got CLOSE to elsewhere.
Kent was happy to be picked up by ANYONE willing to take him.

Re: Sitting on our hands.... (edited by mods)
Abysmal trade period again for the Saints, the simple fact is that we are NOT a destination club. We hold no appeal for top line players as we are miles off challenging for the major prize due to a sub standard list (primarily a result of poor recruiting over many years) and we have a coach that fails to inspire at all. As beige as they come and shows no real passion for the club, we need someone with at least fire in the belly (need a true Saint in that role....Lenny would be great!).saintsRrising wrote: ↑Wed 17 Oct 2018 4:49pm This draft period was doomed as Richo was not sacked.

Anyway, I've got that out of my system and I feel better....I'll still renew my membership and my Level 2 seat at Etihad because I still love the club and will continue to support it but I know we'll be treading water again next year and it is SO DEPRESSING.

Nah, you are all saying no one wanted to come and/or stay because of Richo. Its false as proven by what I wrote. Its made up garbage.
Plenty of players from our club would be wanted by other clubs. If you think that is untrue then you don't understand football.

Re: Sitting on our hands.... (edited by mods)
Think a bit longer term. Final year for Richo with rattennpoise to take over. Paid overs for hanners but he is a name and if he gets back to 75% of his best he will be easily one of our best players and it will make us look more of a destination especially to swans players wanting to come home.
How can anyone complain about Kent he cost sweet fa and if fit he will be a starter each week for us.
We tried hard to get players but few came but that is expected and we had a crack, exodus will continue next year from gws and that is what we aim for. Whitfield for example.
. I will only deal disappointed if we trade pick 4. There are absolute guns in the top 4 this year and we are guaranteed one. I don't count king as he is unknown due to his injury.
Walsh Smith luskosious Rankin. Sassooioooo much potential any one is a great get. So get one any one I will be happy

Re: Sitting on our hands.... (edited by mods)
I don't care which one they pick but have to get the best footballer they can, no point sacrificing a big guy who may be our key back or forward answer for a smallish mid who ends up a half back flanker with no upside.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Wed 17 Oct 2018 5:24pm Think a bit longer term. Coz one is well past his best and the other couldn’t get a regular game as a fringe player. Genuinely wondering if SS hasn’t been infiltrated by a ST KFC nodding doll.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 17 Oct 2018 4:54pm So why was Hannerbrey happy to come when Alan is in charge? What a riveting thread. The numpties are certainly out in force. I think what they are craving is a bit more entertainment during the trade period. Don't worry what players we bring in or send out, and the reasons, just process as many as possible, to keep the troops entertained. The more the better.

Re: Sitting on our hands.... (edited by mods)
We started with picks 4 and 57(?).
We ended with picks 4, 36, 46, & 67
We lost Hickey and next year's second rounder and gained Hannebery and Kent
Bottom line is Hannebery will help us, and pick 4 should secure a top line talent.
It's not all doom and gloom.
Realistically, we came in with a very weak hand. Without coughing up pick 4, there's no way we could have landed and A graders from other clubs. Given that scenario, the club did okay.

Oh, and why will Hawthorn fall off a cliff in about 3 years? Maybe this is why
At the start of next season, these players will be these ages
Roughead 32
McEvoy 29
Burgoyne 36
Frawley 30
Birchall 31
Smith 29
Stratton 30
Puopulo 31
Breust 28
Gunston 27
Whitecross 28
Shiels 28
Ceglar 28
And throw in Rioli who has retired
In three years Scully will be 30
Their first pick in this year's draft is pick 53

Wishful thinking I reckon, they're just as likely to win more flags in the next three years as we have in 150 years.cwrcyn wrote: ↑Thu 18 Oct 2018 6:33am Oh, and why will Hawthorn fall off a cliff in about 3 years? Maybe this is why

Their top 10 this year
1. Tom Mitchell - 25
2. Blake Hardwick - 21

4. Jack Gunston - 27
5. Jaeger O’Meara - 24
6. Luke Breust - 27
7. Ben Stratton - 29
8. Ben McEvoy - 29
9. Liam Shiels - 27
10. James Sicily - 23
If they phase out McEvoy, Smith and Stratton in 3 years, they'll probably just replace them with more quality players in their prime.

I think the Chad is 25.... those 11 would beat our full 22
Will be absolutely primed for their next tilt.
Let’s face it, we are not even close to ever emulating that mob.
