Sitting on our hands.... (edited by mods)

Post: # 1762863Post ss1986 »

That’s the St.Kilda trade period in a nutshell.

Absolutely putrid. Wingard waltzes to Hawthorn. Burton begrudgingly goes to Port... and we didnt even fire a shot.

Another year, another promise of big things and f*** all to show for it.

I know it’s not closed yet - but that’s how little faith I have in this club to surprise me.

Over to you Lethers and co.

Through the kitchen sink at Shiel, tried for Scully and secured a couple of players thy will walk into our team.

What would like to them to do kidnap players to force them to join us.

I am frustrated at the lack of movement in real terms - but how the f@rk do we know whether a shot has been fired.

If you were new to the AFL and asked who you wanted to SUPPORT - aside from past allegiances such as Holden (for the colors) or The Saints (fir the name) - would you pick St Kilda????? I hazard a guess at no - so why the hell would someone want to tie their future to the club from a financial perspective.

It must be a recruiters worse nightmare to try and sell an underperforming club to a prospective recruit.

Completely disagree.

We had a couple of good ins and got 2 x of our main trade targets in Dan and Dean. Shiel would have been nice to add to that, but its not a doom and gloom miss at all.

Still have pick 4 and 28 which will net 2 x very good youngsters, especially pick 4. We have added 2 x good and expierenced footballers so far and only let go a fringe ruck we didn't need.

Very few A graders swap clubs in trade period and it never simply guarantees success of any kind. History proves that.

This will play out on draft night, Port may deal if only one of Lukocious or Rankine are still on the table at our pick, they could either gamble that we won't take either of them or trade up so they are guaranteed. Either way it will make for an interesting draft night.

If this is all we do in trades then I can see a player exodus next year. We appear to be one of the least active clubs again.

We made an aggressive bid for Shiel, we went for Scully, we made a play at Wingard. What more would you want Lethlean to do? We can't force players to come to the club. This is where the new age of free agency and players nominating where they want to get traded to is going to destroy the competition. Every year it will be Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond picking up the big names and all the rest fighting for scraps.

Best hope is 5 and 15 from port for pick 4

Hawks have overpaid for Wingard.

Burton a 10 year KPD.

Hawks will be in massive trouble in a 3-4 years with their list.

All words, we have brought in two players that no-one else would consider.

2017

Alan Richardson says the Saints will take an aggressive strategy into this year's trade week

2018

“We’ve been on record saying we’re going to be as aggressive as we can in the trade and free agency markets,” Lethlean said.

Good tradings of picks by Brisbane and Gold coast....impossible to know , but we do seem to be just standing there watching on while other clubs improve their lists.
Check out Port and Hawthorn going for it. While we resign Lonie cos we frigbtened he might get a kick somewhere else...Port just traded Wingard because he wasn't producing the goods.

Do you ever post something positive?
Why post these links without any context and historical facts?
Don't get it.
Do you even barrack for St Kilda?

We're aggressive and we're STRONG! Really strong in everything we do, except trade period when we're aggressive! :D

I doubt it...I said the same of their list 5 years ago, that they'd hit a cliff, same with Geelong...hasn't happened. They were charmed the advent and timing of free agency, we missed out by a couple of years. Once Carlton get their s*** together, the big powerful melbourne clubs will dominate the little melbourne clubs. Dons have already shown that!

Mate, Dragit's posts are always pretty measured. There is just sweet F*** all to be positive about at the moment. tryign to put a positive spin on the trade period to date following the season that just transpired would be just that, spin. Like Richo, Finnis, lethers, they all talk a great game, but haven't delivered.

No one can argue the club hasn't tried. That's very much the our current mantra, we TRY.

Sadly, I think that's the most this administration will be remembered for. The administration that TRIED.

North, Foots, StK, are unattractive to most players looking for success.

How do we improve .....buggered if I know.

Every draft pick has to be a winner, some lately haven't quite gone forward as much as we would like.

I'd love to know our salary cap situation and how much we are paying the absolute spuds on our list compared to other clubs.

More importantly, there are got to be third party/under the table paper bags swapping hands.
How do the top 10 sides improve their lists without cheating the cap?? More good players coming in than going out.....it's bulls***.

What do people expect, we play on the car park in front of 20,000 style crowds on a weekly basis, currently near the bottom with terrible player development & a vanilla coach in Mr 33%.

I’d imagine we were quite aggressive and offered large sums of money to all of the premium types. Apart from money, we have no unique selling points to offer prospective A graders.

We just need to keep hitting the draft and develop the young players who do have potential but have stalled for one reason or another.

Someone nailed it earlier, once Carlton get there act together the little clubs will always be fighting for the Sam Lloyd’s, Karl Amon’s & Dean Kent types

and that's the bottom line
