He is 50/50 to get back his ankle is that bad. Without his elite running he becomes a average footballer.

This trade should have been vetoed. Why did the AFL let this trade go ahead? #freepickhawthorn

Re: Tom Scully to Hawks for third round pick?
In a nice way, McCartney said his ankle is screwed and he might not play again. He was shopped around last week for a 50+ pick. Makes sense now...the whole thing.
Maybe the other 17 clubs (including GWS) dodged a bullet.

Re: Tom Scully to Hawks for third round pick?
I heard his injury is pretty severe - Syndesmosis ligament rupture, and broken ankle. May never be the same player again. Might be a coup by the Hawks, but may be a bust like O' Rourke. They are going all out for the now, as they have 7-8 players around 30 or above, with the ones coming on not as good as the champs like Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne, etc. Will be interesting.

If his ankle is that screwed, he should be retiring. This trade just doesn't sit right.

I guess I just feel like I'm barracking for the biggest sack of worthless c@cks in the AFL.
We cant even get a A grade player for a 4th round pick.

Without seeing the figures, Id hazard a guess and say 50/50 is better or only slightly worse than the odds of what that pick would offer for a healthy draftee making an AFL debut.
Absolute no brainer in taking the punt for that. St.Kilda doesnt think like that though.

Its got hair all over it.
Two things should be scrutinised here. The ease, and lack of competition available to this trade.
GWS and their salary cap. What the actual flower.

I now get the feeling that Lethlean didn't go after him properly because of this ankle issue. Phew.

Actually it sounds very similar to us picking up Jesse Smith for pick 60 in 2010. Smith was a gun but just could not get on the park.ss1986 wrote: ↑Tue 16 Oct 2018 9:16pmWithout seeing the figures, Id hazard a guess and say 50/50 is better or only slightly worse than the odds of what that pick would offer for a healthy draftee making an AFL debut.

50/50 is a much higher rate than most of our list of becoming a gun.
Scully is a top 10 pick if fit, well worth the salary risk.

A total salary cap rort but given the blind eye treatment by the AFL to their love child.
Imagine the consequences if we had done that!

Yep I could just imagine the posting on here if he sat out injured for the next two seasons on 800k.

Maybe is ankle is unrecoverable?Greater Western Sydney midfielder Tom Scully is expected to join Hawthorn for a late draft pick. The low level of compensation is recognition of the risk Hawthorn is taking over the state of Scully’s ankle, with the Hawks having initially been willing offer a higher pick before the medical results came in.
Hawks are taking all the risk with a player who has a wretched ankle injury. Hawks have a lot of points in the bank with 4 flags so can take any old risk and if it works then good luck to them, took them 2 years to get O'meara playing. Suggestions of drfat tampering are wrong, AFL would be all over this if it was.

To be fair, anyone who's pro the concept of a "free market" shouldn't have a problem with this trade.

Re: Tom Scully to Hawks for third round pick?
The AFL would care not one iota either way. Luke Ball to Collingwood was draft tampering at its finest.chico2001 wrote: ↑Wed 17 Oct 2018 9:16amausfatcat wrote: ↑Mon 15 Oct 2018 9:25pmI do remember Adelaide saying the same of cooney but that never happenedtedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 15 Oct 2018 9:44am Then we have Cripps from Port warning the Suns not to take Rankine and Lucuisous as they would try get them home to SA ASAP. None of these players being traded or shopped around have much creds in finals- seems the only one who really showed his stuff on the biggest stage is Hanners, and we have him now.

Re: Tom Scully to Hawks for third round pick?
I'm not barracking for a team that doesnt give a damn at the moment and have proved it no matter what they say after the sh!te 85% of them served up on field ( bar s few who give their best) and the pathetic selection committee, and insipid trade period we just had.
But they happily cash my checks and enjoy their memberships at the golf course, then spit in my face with 5 years of weak recruiting, poor coaching and only a few staff and board that seem able to see clearly but not sure they can make a change.
We will win more this season. I see 6-8 wins but not because Richo is s legend but due to the assistants changes ( losing Kingsley was another mega foul up), it will help and we do have 5 youth who could be starters with big impact if someone, anyone, would give them games and development.
But such is St Kilda life, we couldnt pick up a $20 note if it was glued to our hand.
Bring on 2019, let's dream for the impossible because that's where we are at now.
