Plus Amon and Scrimshaw wouldn't cost much. Especially Amon.
Haven’t seen Amon live so will not comment.

Have watched Scrimshaw and anyone paying more than a 4th rounder for him doesn’t have a clue, he has no fire for the contest at all.

Just because he was a top 10 pick you may think he’s a gun, but that’s not reality.

Perhaps you should target Jatsch, O’Rourke & Whiley as well.

The other 3 he was supposedly competing with have gone or are close to gone and Port are still happy to let Amon go. Must be a jet!

Amon’s (and Kent’s) ace 1994 highlights prove that he is a gun.

Nothing to worry about.

Disagree. Not every pickup needs to be an A grade gun. Getting a kid with potential is a low cost and smart move. Every club does it.

Reasonable to argue Kent is not even a B grader. Another fringe discard. Could be good. Higher likelihood of being a list clogger, which is why Melbourne have moved him on.
Career stats = underwhelming.

Just because he’s a Saints recruit, he’s going to all of a sudden transform......

Freeman was a kid with potential and worth the punt, Setterfield is a kid with potential, I don’t like him as a player but I’ll even give you Scrimshaw as a kid with potential.

Kent & Amon are 24 & 23 year old c graders.
23 & 24 are mature age recruits., not kids with potential.

Hopefully they become good and improved players at the saints and have good careers.

But they are not kids with potential.

Kent looks like a really good player. Has had injury issues but was best 22 for the Dees late in the season, and they finished 4th. If he gets his body right he looks like he could be an explosive player working between midfield and forward.

Don't know anything about Amon. Seems pretty average but if we get him for peanuts it could be worth it.

Comment about Kent is totally correct and the closest to the mark. He is not A grade, probably never will be, but he could become a very solid player for us. If he was in Melbourne's best 22 then he is in ours.

Amon is worth a punt. Would only cost a late pick. Good kid.

He wasn't though. His record there is that of a fringe player who was in and out and was never a lock in their first 22.

I know you want to pump him up, but he is clearly very much a player that we are taking a punt on and in particular as he has pace.He is worth the punt and what we paid. But please let us refrain from it being anything more than that.

Kent was in Melbourne's best 22. Played the last game and was set for finals but got injured.

How do you know he wasn't in the best 22? Ever watch a game he has played in?

How do you know he was in the best 22?
Which one of his 5 senior appearances suggested that?
How do you know he was set for finals?
Did Goodwin tell you?

He certainly wasn’t part of their best 22 in 2017.

This is from his bio on the Melbourne website...

Bounced in and out of Melbourne’s side in 2017, unable to lock down a spot. The speedy half-forward had an interrupted lead-in to the season and appeared to suffer as a result. Came into the team in round three and kicked two goals from 22 disposals, however, his lack of consistency proved costly as he was dropped after round four. Played just four more AFL games before he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in round 17 against Adelaide.

Well clearly you must have watched every game to be the expert on him that you are.

I am just going by that their selectors have dropped him, that there are reports of his form being variable and that he has played many games in the seconds. That all does not sound like a best 22 player to me.

Can you detail why he is a proven Demons best 22 player?

And no being picked in the firsts in some games does not make you a best 22 player.

Players like Kent, and potentially Amon, add depth at the very least.

Depth = Competition for Spots.
Competition for spots = Higher Standards.
Higher Standards = Wins.

There’s a massive difference between depth and a clogged list.

Clutching at straws. A bloke who’s played 11 games in the past two years was in their best 22....came into the team after 18 weeks absence as one of five changes.

Beno, you’re right if the players are AFL quality players. Super optimistic though IMO to expect that blokes who have been in the system for years and have been no better than fringe players are going to come into a bottom side with a rubbish coach and suddenly become regular best 22 players.

Seriously, that’s what we have to get excited about from this trade period? Kent and possibly Amon......

Looks to me like list clog churn in action.

Indeed. Hickey played 13 games this year and was in our side in Round 20. Clearly in our best 22. Oh hang on....

Kent was set to play finals. Pretty good for a bloke in a side that ended up playing the premiers in a prelim.

Spoke to alot of Melbourne people. They really rate him. Kent played every game in 2016 from memory.

Not really understanding the hate or dislike for Hannerbrey and Kent on here. They were both good pickups and offer different things, especially depth.

Very negative mindsets already. Bordering on depression to be honest.

It’s not hate or dislike for either. I’m sure they’re nice fellas who are awesome athletes and have a crack. There’s not any personal hatred for anyone.

There is though disappointment and anger at the bullsh*t approach by the StKFC during 2018 and post season. A review that didn’t include Richardson and closing of ranks behind him by senior management because they can’t afford to sack him. He is a disaster and needs to sacked ASAP. Again, nice fella I’m sure, but it’s not about being a nice fella. 33%...what more evidence do you need?

There is though genuine anger at the complete lack of accountability from senior management for the most disappointing season in recent memory and their gall in holding out their hands for more money as well as membership renewal.

And there is though scorn for the idea that we’re supposed to get excited about Kent and Amon, fringe players at best and a banged up ex AA who’s best is well gone. They’re all going to pull on Saints kit and suddenly be quality players.

No quality free agents, no quality elite or A grade or even B grade recruits and Richardson, Finnis and Sexton are still there. Look through rose coloured glasses if you like....up to you.

Sigh......it’s only footy

Amon would be quicker than anyone in our midfield bar maybe Jack Steven. He’s also a reliable kick.
A good pick up, if we get him, we’re not the only suitor.
