Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
Just so you naysayers know who you're talking about.
I think we can find room for this guy once the knee is better. Ignore early kicking for goal (all the bad kicks we drafted kicked perfectly in under 18s )
MAX KING vs Oakleigh.

No question the guy will be a beast. But we need more class through the middle as well. Ahh the conundrum...

If we knew we were definitely going to get him, I'd be looking to trade Paddy now...

Kid is an absolute star, but so is his brother, Lukiousis, Rankine and Smith. Walsh will go 1.
We will get a future star though. This top 5 is huge.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
I'm liking the prospect of a King to be honest.
Both would be great.
We're not competing realistically for 2-3 years anyway, we're still building. Getting one of those freaks in would be a huge coup really.

Spencer White and many other highlight packages showed a players best bits over many games which can fool you into thinking they were dominant. The highlights above were all from ONE GAME.

Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
He's clearly an on-baller though.
He's played forward, but the dudes speed and agility is borderline incredible.
He'd play mid within 2 years of being at an AFL club.
Freak show.
A 200cm midfielder. s*** in your hands and clap.

He can't kick and he's out-marking a 5'6" bloke.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Funny you say that - considering King is apparently 200cm, those full backs weren't actually giving all that much height away to him I thought.
But as I said, he'll end up a freak mid anyway.

Unless we are stupid enough to trade 4 away for some "former" star or split it to two lower first round picks.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 10 Oct 2018 8:23pm Kid is an absolute star, but so is his brother, Lukiousis, Rankine and Smith. Walsh will go 1.

If we do hold firm and keep pick 4 I can tell you now our selection will be the worst performed of your suggested top 5!

Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
I am worried we will pick him and waste our draft pick. Remember the last full forward that out marked smaller kids and had a medical issue that we thought would be awesome. Didn't work out to well. And he cant kick at goal to save himself. He may be a gun later but I don't want ot take the risk
Smith or Rankin are better for us. Smith is vanilla but does his job really well. He is an inside mid which is not what we need so I prefer Rankine. He has an amazing goal sense and is quick, has great hand and already playing SAFL so he will be ready day one

Just look at him towel up those witches hats! And run that goal umpire off his legs. Him and his brother can go to GC, we'll have a midfielder please.

Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
why not just pick a mid. everyone including the peanut seller knows our biggest issue is lack of a classy outside mid. Dont think he will add speed and run. Historically, tall KPP's have been hit and miss in the draft for many years. Need to get this years right

If a genuine good MID can be added to the centre I'll be relieved. My gut feeling is that a real mid will bring genuine value to our centre line over the years & simply improve our chances of controlling games from the centre. I'm no judge but a stronger midfield would be great to see @ St. Kilda.

I'm not necessarily advocating picking him, just running with a hypothetical that I'd heard that we're going to pick him.Crossy66 wrote: ↑Thu 11 Oct 2018 7:20amwhy not just pick a mid. everyone including the peanut seller knows our biggest issue is lack of a classy outside mid. Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
And you will probably end up being right. At the end of the day, we will get a good player with pick 4, but i just think one of the mids would be a safer bet and more what we need.rodgerfox wrote: ↑Thu 11 Oct 2018 8:38amI'm not necessarily advocating picking him, just running with a hypothetical that I'd heard that we're going to pick him.Crossy66 wrote: ↑Thu 11 Oct 2018 7:20amwhy not just pick a mid. everyone including the peanut seller knows our biggest issue is lack of a classy outside mid. If we do grab King, then logically, a couple of McCartin, Bruce, Battle, Membury, Marshall will be surplus.

Re: Max King Highlights - Just Sayin
big concerns are the ability to translate that dominance from U18s when playing against AFL level defenders
also, these weaknesses from Knightmare (draft guru) on Bigfooty
"Weaknesses:
Endurance
Work rate Rarely pushes up outside the forward 50m arc
Conversion in front of goal
No established second position"
http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/2 ... urges-no-2
We've already got a tall forward with terrible endurance and work rate, do we need two???

I still shudder at the memory of hearing a version of that years ago re: Spencer White
