Yeah, but we'll insist they take Jack Steven and next years first rounder as a package.

Does this mean we get roughhead as a free agent to replace hickey? effectively a free pick and similar to hickey. i thought 23 was more appropriate surely something pans out from here.

It's much worse than pick 39.

We give them 60 this year and will also swap our 4th rounders next year.

If the ladder is the same next year, the trade values Hickey at a pick in the 60's

We're dead-set losers.
Jaysus. I thought the pick swap would be to our advantage, not theirs. WTF. We are a shambles.

The lunatics have well and truly taken over the asylum here......bent over big time AGAIN by WCE, should have negotiated a better deal than that. I personally wouldn't have traded Hickey as I rated him as our best ruckman (yes, best of a bad lot) and we really are exposed now in that area - Longer is rubbish and Lewie still developing.

Yep, the best team in the comp wanted Hickey, while Longer has gone from having two contracts earlier this year (Saints and Geelong according to Stoney) to having none at this point in time if I’m not mistaken!

Bring on Pierce and Marshall in 2019 :)

Actually a good trade. We got pick 39 for an average ruck in his late 20's that can't compete against big name rucks. He will not get better.

We still have 3 rucks on the list. 2 are young and will end up better than Hickey.

We also lost a 4th round pick and swapped a couple of future 4th round picks...and people are more worried about those late junk picks. Ok...

Actually a fair trade.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Good outcome for the saints at pick 39 - for a ruckman who could not cement the number 1 ruck position & has had a history in injuries & 27 years old (4 years at most until retirement)
later pick swaps ect are irrelevent & very lucky to find a decent player past pick 50 (there are the odd few)

Well done Saints

Congrats Stoney first up. I hope you enjoy yourself this afternoon.

Pick 39 is fair - I’d be delighted with pick 30 but 39 seems fair value.

I just hope this doesn’t mean friggin Longer stays on for another year though!

Let’s hope Newnes and Dunstan take Hickey’s lead and request trades also. Love them to both go!

Gags & Lethers off to a flyer!!! Could not get a deal done throwing around $1.3 mill a season so to prove they can actually wheel & deal, identified the right pick # for a underperforming player who didn't want to be at the club & gave them bonuses for it! The banking industry must be relieved to have a good samaritan out of their ranks.

Let's see if we can ride the crest of this wave by getting Collingwood's 2nd rounder for Bruce & Lonie & our 2 remaining picks in the 60's & a swap of 2019's 3rd round picks.

Keep working your magic boys!!!

There is 100% salary relief in this deal. Hickey absolutely stitched us up post 2016 season and got salary up into $600k range ... clearly we haven’t seen value recognised.

Think about our club's shining track record of developing players.
Adam Simpson and the admin at the Eagles have done their homework, and understand that our amateur and rubbish system has short-changed Hickey.
They are confident he will go up another level, under their tutelage.
You said 'reigning premiers'- any idea how they got there?
A much better system than our rubbish one.

Put Daniel Ricciardo into the Force India F1 team, and see how low he finishes.
Force India- that's us.
Hickey might play WAFL a lot, but in Perth, he's gonna be a helluva lot better there than under our numpty ruck coach Adam Scrotumbalak and Vanilla Richo

Pick 39 and 60, not bad, not great, just a typically uninspiring trade.

I really hope Marshall and Lewis can keep improving next season and form a more than competitive ruck duo.

If Longer goes back to being the main ruck, then it will just be another example as to how this rebuild has failed miserably.

How did he stitch us? Surely we have the ability to say no to contracts that are too high

The last thing we need right now is salary relief, we'll be lucky to reach 80% of the cap now if an extra 600K is freed up.

Personally I think we were better off keeping Hickey then taking that deal.

For me that’s a fail.

We’ve traded a mediocre player that was the best we had in his position for a speculative pic.

A readymade ruck good to go, to a club that needs one.

We should have done better
