AFL trade 2018 Is A Failure
Sometimes you have to call it as it is. If all we are gaining is Dan Hannebery and Dean Kent then we have failed.
Miserably. Kent is just an ok get. He has pace and kicks well. But he struggled to be in Melbourne’s best 18. He can’t just be the Melbourne player in a St Kilda jumper. He needs big improvement to be of value.
Hannebery was a mid field bull but he is way past his best. He will play some ok games for us. I see his value as bringing other players into the contest.
So trades that very much do not set the world on fire. And that is an understatement.
We did a lot of talking and very little delivering. Says it all about our season.
Just wish the club would take a bit of ownership of where we are at.. If it did we might see some change for the better.

Both improve our list so that is a win. Hannebery's full impact won't just come from on field performance.damienc wrote: ↑Wed 10 Oct 2018 8:00am Sometimes you have to call it as it is. If all we are gaining is Dan Hannebery and Dean Kent then we have failed.

What else happens in the trade period? And who wins the Caulfield Guineas? What's the weather like next Thursday? Lotto numbers might be handy too.

Re: AFL trade 2018 Is A Failure
Yeah pretty ordinary.
Missing Shiel is a bit of a downer. Depending which way you look at it really.
Still have pick 4.
We still need picks in the second and third rounds.
Much more needs to happen or we are screwed.

Re: AFL trade 2018 Is A Failure
Premature call with lots of time to go.
Kent will come cheaply and is better than all the players we delisted.
Hanners deal comes down to cost and length. Yes passed his prime etc but sadly will be one of better players if fit. He may also be a trigger that lifts our players by showing real leadership out there and make our boys train a lot harder.
Shiel going elsewhere is a great outcome. He would be wasted in our team and cost too much. Bombers makes more sense than us but how bad are we? 2 million bucks bad. It's now been quantified

Hannas has been recruited to add some on-field leadership over everything else, but are we going to actually get any A graders or even A- graders? Not looking like much has happened, or will happen.

You don't seriously believe he signed for 2million less do you?DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Wed 10 Oct 2018 9:43am Premature call with lots of time to go.

Its all Richo's fault.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Re: AFL trade 2018 Is A Failure
The part I don’t get ...
- we need another quality key defender. No attempts to get Langdon or Adams ? Langdon was amazing during finals and would be a good get; we have cash right ? How does Sydney lead this discussion ?
- we lack speed. Kent is Mav like, where is our crack at line breaker. No talk of Hall and little on Gaff pre Eagles signature. Why were North the front runnner.
- we have cash and lack class. Make it happen.
I hope there are surprises in the pipe to help deal with shortfalls... and we aren’t backing on same old same.

Re: AFL trade 2018 Is A Failure
That is what is being reported in various sources and it is probable. Of course I don't actually know but if we did offer $1.2-$1.3 for 6 years i.e. 8 mill and Bombers offer $1m a season then yeah its possible.CURLY wrote: ↑Wed 10 Oct 2018 10:04amYou don't seriously believe he signed for 2million less do you?DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Wed 10 Oct 2018 9:43am Premature call with lots of time to go.

Don't want to depress you even further, but I have to point out that we've not obtained Kent or Hannabery yet. As of right now, it looks like the only trade action is Hickey's imminent move to the Eagles.

Actually, it all stems back to Drake and Huggins. Its their fault. Plus Bill Barrot from the 60's.
